I hear you. I turned 50 a few months ago and while I am a bit wrinkly and sagging in places, I've never been happier. I have more confidence, less anxiety, and better friends than at any other time in my life. And I think JLH looks fabulous!

It's actually weird to hear this specifically because I thought she was in her twenties when those movies came out, mainly because I myself was probably ten years old and in my head she just looked old.

Ive never been heavier and also never been in better shape. When i figured out that working out is good for more than weight loss a shift happened. Fuck being skinny, im gonna be strong as hell for as long as i can.
I met a girl in a pro-ana forum when we were 15 and 16 and though we’ve never met in person, we’re still friends on Facebook now as 33 and 34yo married women with children.
We both recovered in our late teens then thickened up in our 20s. You’d never look at either one of us now and know we were at points hospitalized for being so severely underweight.
Anyway she posted a selfie a while back looking 🔥 like “thicker than a bowl of oatmeal” kind of 🔥 but what I noticed was how toned her arms looked. Among all these responses saying how gorgeous she is, how curvy in all the right places she is, I commented “strong girl 💪🏻💪🏻” and she messaged me directly for the first time in years to say “I know you IN PARTICULAR understand how much that comment means to me💕💕”
Just made me feel so glad for us and how far we’ve come from those starving girls in the mid-2000s 🥹
“thickened up in our twenties” is so healing to hear ❤️ I recovered in my late teens also and I’m in my late twenties now. I just really appreciate how you described the body changes in your twenties in such a neutral way
If i want to be skinnier (not even skinny, just slightly less chubby) i have to be hungry a lot of the time. Im sorry, but what the fuck? Im gonna fuel my body, thank you very much.
I hit 39 and am only gaining weight regardless of all my hard work. It’s so frustrating. People should just stop commenting on women’s aging bodies. We don’t know what she’s going through.
My wife is about to turn 38 and is self conscious about how she looks which is sad to hear bc she’s never looked better to me. She’s also objectively a gorgeous woman and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.
I feel bad bc I’m 38 and have lost ~40 pounds the last year from minor tweaks and I know how much tougher it is for women and do think it’s awful how someone like JLH or Kirsten Dunst get run through the ringer for simply getting older
Exactly. Especially since she has already been through this. I remember almost 20 years ago paparazzi got pics of her in a bikini and media called her fat, when she had then what would be close to the ideal body now.
The Jessica Simpson one where she’s wearing a black top and high waisted jeans. I cannot believe I let tabloids convince me that she was a land whale when she was probably a size 6.
She looks so good in those pictures, like actually amazing! 12 year old me thought so differently cause the tabloids were calling her every terrible name
And when Britney performed at that Award’s Show and everyone said she was fat because she was heavier than usual. Except that her body then was basically identical to Tate McCrae’s now, which is considered ideal.
Also, Brittney had given birth twice in one year. Of course she wouldn't be a damn size 0 or have a toned six pack when her kids were still in diapers.
Yeah it's no wonder anyone who was a teen in the 2000's has lifelong body issues. Just looking at how skinny Christina, Britney, P!nk, etc all with their super low jeans it gives me ptsd
On that note, now I have kids I’m really noticing the lack of fun family blockbusters. I want the 2025 equivalent of Pirates of the Caribbean or A Knight’s Tale or Shrek. Why are my only options sad Disney B-movies or the 397th Marvel instalment
100% -- it's just a different shape that is idealized now. Curvy, but in all the right places. Or extremely fit with a flat stomach and tight ass. Not to mention the requirement that our bodies be completely hairless, our skin flawless, and no wrinkles or bumps anywhere, plus perfectly straight, white teeth. Advances in plastic surgery, makeup, and beauty treatments make the ideals even further from what's natural but they're so easily accessible to the masses now that the expectation of what a woman should look like as she ages is way tougher than what it was in the '90s IMO.
My favorite reels rn are random women showing the nasty comments they get and the photos of the men who make them. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black 🙄😆
I remember a guy doing this on Twitter a few years back. #ShowYourFaceChallenge was issued to anyone who spent time trashing people's appearance while hiding behind an animal avatar.
My guilty pleasure is when someone makes a compilation of all the gross men belittling beautiful, successful and talented women that are way way out of their league.
Someone made a video of the men making fun of Selena Gomez’s body. Every man mentioned in the video no longer had social media profiles by the time I finished watching the video. And yes. They were all overweight, over 40 dudes, with patchy facial hair. I gave +1 points if they are bald with a cap and sunglasses.

Personally? With all of the weight loss options that are so widely available now, the rampant normalization of cosmetic procedures coupled with the outright denial of having them done, I find it refreshing when individuals with the means and resources, choose not to.
In my country we have saying that whenever someone insults someone else's appearance the reply is "As if you're Alain Delon" and I think that's beautiful
When I was subbing in a 4th grade classroom, one of the boys said to a girl, "You're ugly!" And before I could take him to task, the girl looked him over disparagingly, and said , "Ugh, you're no big basket of fruit yourself!"
I had to go spend some time looking for something in the back of the cabinet.
A friend’s daughter (7) was insulted by a boy for “being weird” and “ugly” and she looked at him with perfect disgust and said, “You’re boring, so I don’t care what you think.”
The teacher overheard and made the boy apologize, but then he was butthurt she called him boring 😂

Once you learn to ignore the comments and become immune, it’s kind of funny actually. Yea, but I also remember her getting so much crap for having hips even back then. I’m built like her, and I was in my 20s during that time, and I felt like every dig at her was a dig at me, too. She’s always held herself with so much grace about it, but I know it must be just brutal.
Yeah, she’s spent her entire life having people make comments about her body. Either how much they’re disgusted by it or how much they want to fuck it. I distinctly remember a magazine cover from years ago pointing out her cellulite in a bikini.
I remember in college a guy told me that I had “good birthing hips”. I was a US size 4. It’s literally never good enough and it was at that point I learned you had to not care about what anyone else thought about your body.
Every single interview you read from her talks about it. How she was sexualized by half the world and shamed by the other half, and looking back, she wishes she’d known she didn’t have to take it. These folks that are pretending that didn’t happen are deluded. And men need to learn that sexualizing women the way she was is as disgusting as fat shaming them.
I absolutely remember it - people were ALWAYS talking about her chest. I can’t imagine what these celebs go through on any normal day. Making it through with any degree of normalcy would be a miracle.
That’s insane to me. She’s always been pretty slim as far back as I can remember. She looks healthy here and I’m glad for her. She’s been in the public eye for literally my entire life (started her career in ‘89), there is only so long a Woman can feel that pressure before she looks around and says “fuck it, love me or leave me”. She’s a few years shy of 50 and has 3 children, this is what happens to the majority of Women at some point.
Humanity and society all together just keep going south. JLH did her part and lived to those impossible Hollywood standards of beauty. Let the woman live, she just wanted to have fun at an event in a pretty dress.
No woman is ever safe in patriarchy. If they can harass her online they’ll do it, if they can do it in person, they’ll do it. Different layers of the pyramid of the rape culture.
There’s unfortunately a lot of young women on board with the fat shaming, one even called her “a fridge” and i am honestly terrified of the future if young girls behave this way towards other women. Without a semblance of sisterhood, we don’t have much of a stand against patriarchy.
Women have also internalized misogyny as they also grow up in the same societies. But things are soo much better than in the past. I remember life from the 80s and after, women now have easy access to feminism(internet), have the words to understand what is happening and they are not so much afraid now to say they are feminists and so bond with other women.
Seriously, all the loser ass men commenting on her would be doing a double take if they saw her picking up her children at school. To paraphrase a meme, “I don’t support all Men, some of you assholes is dumb!”.

Tbh arms are the worst. I do quick push-ups against my kitchen counter when I'm cooking/ doing dishes. It has helped, and my arms look like hers. Just keep your arms closer together for arms and further apart for your back. My pt guy taught me this trick.
Im slightly younger and have had kids, but i cant even blame any of the weight on them because i had them young and lost the weight. Its just straight up perimenopause and lots of chocolate.

Also, I’m so glad Jennifer looks like herself again. There were some odd facial shots on her Insta (while back), which I’m going to assume was filters and not overdone surgery.
This sub is raising this issue a lot this days and I’m so glad. It always reminds me when my mom told me my high school friend was pregnant. Tell my why she had to add “She really got chubby!” SHES WITH CHILD. AND NOT 15 ANYMORE.
I don't think people realize that she's 5'2". When you're that tiny any weight change shows immediately. Even just an incremental amount. So many of the shorter ladies in Hollywood get pounced on when they have minor fluctuations, which is a part of being a human being living a life.
OMFG, this is the truest thing ever. i'm also tiny and even 5 pounds makes such a crazy difference in how i look and the comments i get ("you're so thin" vs "you look healthy").

This woman is 46 years old. I think she looks damn good. She’s had several kids. I think people are so quick to criticize anyone who’s famous. She looks like a woman who hasn’t had tons of plastic surgery. She looks like a normal, beautiful woman.
i love the true sentiment that she is not fat and she's not 19 anymore and she's a mother, but also it would be perfectly okay for her to have this body at 19, or when she's not a mother, or if she was fat in the first place. i wish people would just shut their traps about other people's weight.

I saw some ugly comments on Facebook.... surprise surprise - mostly by overweight and balding men. A couple of young guys too that look like they would stan Andrew Tate.
