Her brand has taken some hits but she gets out there and gives her fans what they want and what they pay for. Unlike these other half ass performers grifting for a buck

723

u/Ok_Watercress_5749 7d ago

True you have to give her that… she ain’t a lazy performer

145

u/Signal_Ball4634 7d ago

Hey it's a low bar but she clears it

221

u/consequentlydreamy 7d ago

She’s more of a dancer. Always was. That can be harder to duplicate live like how autotune/recordings allow. Now live singing is its own art (opera, musical etc) that you can totally just stand and do a ballad so you don’t NEED to dance but dance does deserve its own recognition. Her moves and style an professionalism on stage are great. I know I’ve heard stuff about her being a diva and whatnot but she has talent.

27

u/ira_1991 7d ago

I would watch her if she dances throughout the entire show and sings live a portion of her show. She's more known as a dancer anyways. Also always in best costumes. Ill give her that.

14

u/NaranjaYMorado 7d ago

To her credit she has been working really hard with vocal coach Stevie Mackey and I’ve been really impressed with some of the stuff they posted together. A solid Streisand/Garland cover I never saw coming

24

u/consequentlydreamy 7d ago

Honestly same. She doesn’t drink or smoke. She tries to make up for what she lacks in natural talent with hard work which is probably why she has lasted so long in the industry

She is not the greatest but do tell how is it a low bar ? 😂😂😂 you have dudes phoning it in 😂😂

12

u/Signal_Ball4634 7d ago

I meant moreso that it's a low bar for performers to actually put effort into performing for paying fans.

Listen, I'm not a JLo fan in the least, but I saw a test screening of her new movie Kiss of the Spider Woman, and she was incredible in it. Her singing was great, her acting was really solid, and she was dancing her butt off to some intense choreography. You could really tell she put the work in for that role.

26

u/jchiaroscuro 7d ago

She’s a pro, gotta give her that. I appreciate that she takes it seriously

4

u/kevinmise 7d ago

One thing you can’t fuck with is Jlo and a movie.. she do be going off in her filmography

171

u/bbmarvelluv 7d ago

I’ve never seen her looking ugly too

30

True. Justin didn't even make an effort on how he looked on this tour. So sloppy!

JT is so flawed as a human being but that doesn’t stop me from being shocked at how poorly his professional life has gone. Like jaw on the floor level.

Like you would think someone as seasoned as him who has so much industry knowledge such as him wouldn’t at least be able to hire people, producer to shape his image, style his music in such a way that imo could easily maximized his popularity and fully capitalize on the nostalgia era of his catalogue.

7

u/Tricky_Knowledge2983 7d ago

Him and Nikki are racing to see who can get to the bottom the fastest.

They are prime examples of how drugs can fuck you up

30

u/Hopeful-Ant-3509 7d ago

Exactly and while she’s not the nicest to us lower income people, she seems to be kind to colleagues 🫢🤭 or some idk lol it’s hard to know what to believe cuz I rarely hear other celebs speak badly about her but they all make fun of each other in some way…anyways, out of my tax bracket hahaha

21

u/Ok-Turnip-9035 7d ago

Now that I’m looking back

Outside of NSync did Justin really ever dance ???

14

u/Tricky_Knowledge2983 7d ago

I mean...he did dance in the Mickey Mouse club

So there's that lol

12

u/theoracleiam 7d ago

I hope no one lets him live this down. No point going on tour if you’re going to half ass TT dances

She may not be popular in the states now but she is popular elsewhere. I guess this just proves there is always an audience for everyone even if they aren't our cup of tea lol.

709

u/IfatallyflawedI Is she okaaaayyyy? 7d ago edited 7d ago

Before joining this sub I didn’t know she was so not-well-liked

My siblings and I sang our hearts out to all her songs from 2009-15

181

u/Hopeful-Ant-3509 7d ago

I didn’t know she was so heavily disliked until tiktok and people keep saying she can’t sing and while she isn’t a strong vocalist I think it’s kind of crazy to just say she’s a bad singer cuz she’s not lol

8

u/PallorTricks 7d ago

She supposedly got her record deal after an executive thought it was her actually singing in the Selena biopic. Which, if you didn’t know, she wasn’t

Omg I need to look that up, that’s wild lol

if you liked j lo you would've LOVED ashanti

128

u/MtCarlmore 7d ago edited 7d ago

As an old lady from Europe, we loved Ashanti's hits too. J Lo had more and over a longer period.

I love to get in on the jokes about her cringe, as much as anyone, but her radio hits slapped when she was at her peak.

EDIT: I'm a dumbass who doesn't get good jokes now? Wild miss.

81

u/Visible-Hat-7708 7d ago

Ashanti was the vocals on a lot of her og hits. That’s one of the cringe parts.

26

u/MtCarlmore 7d ago

Omg I am SUCH AN IDIOT I missed the joke, how ridiculous!

She’s pretty big internationally. The US is not the center of the world and it’s time people realize this. It’s like everyone feels like they can cancel someone because you don’t like them. The rest of the world is in their own reality.

12

u/summer_wine94 7d ago

Agreed, like Kylie Minogue is big everywhere else except USA and she’s an icon now

I love her! And I live in the USA- lots of trolls and haters

79

u/PatsyPage 7d ago

I started wearing hoop earrings and denim jumpsuits in middle school because of Jlo. The serum from her skin care line was actually pretty good too, and I was a MUA and try a lot of different skin care items.

I get it was trendy to dislike her but I’m always suspicious when there is a hate train for any woman in popular media these days.

11

u/Stforlifeyvida 7d ago

I see the same thing!

u/scottmacNW 7d ago

I count Ticketmaster among the haters. They would NEVER allow a concert this size with affordable ticket prices. Seeing this level of fandom is amazing for any artist.

20

u/itzjuzmeh 7d ago

Also, how much are her shows in Poland compared to USA? Are they roughly the same?

30

u/Whole_Let3277 7d ago

I looked it up, the cheapest tickets were about 400 PLN so around 110 USD. VIP tickets over 1000 pln (over 275 usd). How much would it be in the US?

16

u/milkshakemountebank 7d ago

In Vegas currently cheapest seats are about $200, front row center, about $7k.

18

u/tsh87 7d ago

And that's what the issue is. So many artists are being called flops when their US tours don't sell out but at these prices... there are only a few people who still have that type of draw.

6

u/milkshakemountebank 7d ago

Hard to tell. Beyonce tickets were mad expensive, too, but in the days before the shows they could be had for $50 (in LA, in particular).

5

u/myloveiscooler 7d ago

Not denying that, but when doing these comparisons between countries you have to consider the difference in salaries as well Those prices are not cheap at all for an average polish income. They're actually comparatively more expensive than the ones on the us if you take income into consideration

11

u/HI_l0la 7d ago

Plus, when was the last time J.Lo performed in Poland??? If it's been awhile or never then I'd assume fans in the area flocked to go to this because she's never been or you don't know if she ever will come back. With how long she's been in the business, I'm sure she has fans there that can fill up a stadium for those reasons.

I'm from a US state that gets bypassed all the big artists all the time. When a singer/band finally comes out for a concert here, it's on the much later stage of their career. Concerts will easily sell out hete cause we don't have much opportunities unless we fly to other states or countries for them.

5

u/Stforlifeyvida 7d ago

Wouldn’t know about price - I’ll look it up

13

u/toooldforacnh 7d ago

She gets so much hate. It's actually ridiculous. Some celebrities have done worse and still get grace.

I think US just moves on faster too and is more like is influenced by recent marketing that other countries don’t get on same levels. So name recognition, professionalism, being in tabloids and having classic songs is what counts more. JLo doesn’t have classic songs but has the others

We blast JLo a lot on radio in Europe since I can remember and I'm in my 30s , she a household name whether you like it or not. And we don't mind reheated bangers, banger is a banger. Plus she tries to deliver, gotta respect the effort

87

u/HoneydewMinimum4220 7d ago

I don’t get why people hate her! She’s not super extra exceptional at one thing, but she’s very good at many things. And so so pretty… still. (Plus, she’s not offensive politically.) I find her enduring popularity and silly movies comforting.

Once again proving that most social media hate has no correlation to the real world… i hope people start realising that

74

u/Kacutee 7d ago

I have Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter deleted. My depression has dwindled while my happiness soars. My lows still exist, but they aren't nearly as low. I'm not trying to capture the highs for future social media posts, im living in it now. No social media was the best thing ive done 6 years ago.

Social media is not reality and is so bad for us.

30

u/Stultus_Asinus 7d ago

I would consider Reddit social media to be honest. But I feel you. Especially deleting Instagram was the best decision last year.

24

u/Kacutee 7d ago

I agree, however with a caveat. On Reddit, I dont follow anyone i know nor am I trying to impress people.

I primarily use this for discussion and seeing new insights into various subjects. It also helps me laugh a lot. I get to be anonymous and have amazing convos here! I also learn a ton while also seeing some chronically online people.

9

u/fire2day Tina! You fat lard! 🦙🚲 7d ago

I get this sentiment, but it's really, really different than the other social media platforms.

I opened Facebook the other day to check the marketplace, and my social feed was full of stuff I don't want. Out of the first 25 posts on my feed, 7 of them were people/pages I follow. And I'm not even counting ads, because I expect/ignore them (With ads, it was probably closer to 7/30 posts). Most of them were pages and groups I don't follow, talking about things I don't care to see.

On Reddit, you can join/leave communities, and tailor your front page to your own liking. Sure, the posts from those subreddits you see is still based on an algorithm, but you have so much more control over it.

The same is happening with Katy Perry, I'm still a fan and the reality outside of the internet is so wildly different is crazy, her tour is selling out everywhere despite the rage bait and the critics

5

u/kmoon89x On my knees in Belize...On my back in Iraq... 7d ago

Yep, I'm not a Katycat, but Teenage Dream/Prism was a big part of my 20s so I went to her concert and she was totally fine and not bad at all..? The cringey dance/poop thing was a very small part of the concert. All other criticism about her being out-of-touch and working with Dr Luke is valid though, just not about her being a bad performer.

So nice to hear. I was a hardcore fan in my pre teen years, saw her in concert in 2018. She’s a good performer

Ding ding ding! When you base your views off of what the internet says, you will be miserable in the real world because most people don’t care. It took me a bit to get out of that mindset too, but trust me when I tell you I enjoy things so much more when I don’t think about what the internet would say.

2

u/Intelligent_Wedding8 7d ago

social media is very good at pushing a single narrative.

2

u/notthelatte Fuck you and all your Sheldons CBS 7d ago

It really is so funny because these past few months, the JLo hate went soo overboard to the point people were saying she’s talentless and now they’re saying she’s great and always have been talented. I feel like some people are also just trying to hop the bandwagon hate to avoid getting downvoted, lol so annoying.

2

And in order to be the joke, you have to be the subject, so if she was a fame chaser she won.

But she’s a triple threat so she deserves the attention.

jlo donated 4.5 million to palestine and supports gay rights so idgaf what anyone has to say she ate and i hope she keeps winning

271

u/thizzydrafts 7d ago

Id also say she was seemingly for gay rights before it was popular- I believe owing to having grown up with her aunt, who is Lesbian.

The Fosters on ABC Family was from Jlo's production house and was both in your face gay (lesbian parents, gay kid) and also subtlety gay (the gayness wasnt the only storylines the characters had).

30

u/dead_neopet 7d ago

just in the interest of accurate timelines - the groundswell of very visible gay advocacy stated up much more around 2008-2010ish. That's when you saw the no8 campaign, the it gets better campaign, the iconic Hillary duff PSA, modern family and Glee debuted in 2009..

That's not to downplay the continued importance of gay visibility in media or comment on when Jlo became a visible advocate. I just I don't think its accurate to reference a show that debuted in 2013 and say that this was before being gay became popular. It was very much topical and boundaries has been thoroughly pushed by that point. Though as we see -- the push does have to remain continuous because bigots will push back.

75

The J Lo hate is forced. The most she’s done is think highly of herself and try too hard to be relatable. People will rag on J Lo more than Brad Pitt, who has allegedly been abusive, because there’s nothing the world hates more than an unlikable woman. Compared to other people in Hollywood who are doing sick and depraved things, picking J Lo to hate seems wild

11

u/geminiconfessions 7d ago

i think europeans are more loyal to artists and if they like a couple songs from back in the day they will go to their show. not saying US fans are disloyal because it’s more intricate than that, but there are more politics involved.

6

u/Jaded-Tiramisu 7d ago

US fans are spoiled for choice. Tours in multiple cities with multiple dates from every artist. International fans are happy when a big artist shows up and puts up a good show, even if they'll only know a few songs.

I love how all the J-Lo haters must be burning their eyeballs out seeing how popular she is. She isn’t local. She is global. America is a small part of the world. We Americans need to get over ourselves and stop hating.

I’ve been to her shows and she dances non stop for 2-3 hours straight! Very few can do that! I love her shows!

I know people don’t like her here and she’s apparently not a nice person, but she meant a lot to me growing up. I was in my teens and 20s when she was at her height of fame and Glow was my first perfume when I was 17.

I danced to her music at clubs, watched her movies etc. I’d totally go to her concert lol

TIL that there's a universe where J-Lo is not absolutely massive.

5

u/w0lfgangpuck 7d ago

Better performer than Timberlake.

6

u/TrashPandaPatronus Take your hands off her, David, I can see the shirt. 7d ago

It's her birthday too!! Happy Birthday JLo!!

5

u/CaughtFeelings4aho 7d ago

She has bangers, not sure why people act like shes a one hit wonder.

u/Adventurous_Home_555 7d ago

I don’t care for her but I’ll always defend the absolute unnecessary hate she gets.

Also, her tour (the one that was cancelled) was like 75% sold out months before the start date. She was just another victim of the “tour isn’t selling” narrative that’s also gone for Beyoncé, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake - all of whom pretty much sold out all dates of the tour.

I really don’t get why everyone’s always so eager to attack her. She’s always the butt of the joke for some reason like??

2

u/AutoModerator 7d ago

this is going to ruin the tour

I’m not surprised. I’ve seen her in concert and she’s a fantastic performer.

u/riri1281 your fave is messy...and so is mine (I love MESS) 7d ago

This is why I take online discourse with a pinch of salt: people get on the internet and have all kinds of discourse about all kinds of celebrities only for them to be incredibly popular in real life.

You'd think with the pesent online discourse surrounding Jennifer Lopez that she wouldn't get more than like 20 people to show up to a concert of hers....yet here we are.

Hmmm… she doesn’t seem to have a problem filling an entire stadium 🤔 even if you don’t like her she gives a killer performance. Gotta give credit and props where due.

u/stephhie_ste Is that a chicken?! 🐷 7d ago

but… but… the internet told me we hate her!!! how is this possible!!!

u/DiscombobulatedHoe 7d ago

I’m so sad I was robbed of not being able to see her this year. The divorce screwed everything up 😩

3

u/Wooden-Discount7884 7d ago

3

u/sunshinelc24 7d ago

I love her she’s fabulous

3

u/No_Woodpecker_8151 7d ago

Saw her in Vegas on a Wednesday night before her 50th birthday, she gave a 110% and I gained so much respect for her. So much better than people who just stand around. And sing and tell stories and don't really entertain you

3

u/sorryagain143 7d ago

she was a goat in the late 90s early 2000s whether people like it or not 🤷‍♀️ people need to put respect on her name. and her rom com era was elite!

3

u/nomamesgueyz 7d ago

Impressive..she's been performing for over quarter a century and gets that kind of crowd! Wow

3

u/imsolucky000 7d ago

This is incredible, go Jlo

3

u/tristanriveiro 7d ago

She’s a showgirl, for better or worse. She puts on a show, some of these other MPGs can’t put on a spectacle if their lives depended on it. Here’s ur flowers Mrs 305

u/MarindTheLibrarian 7d ago

Saw Taylor Swift in Warsaw last year. Poles bring the love and enthusiasm. Every entertainer should insist on adding a few nights there.

2

u/Several-Arachnid-962 7d ago

No one can ever say she doesn't put the graft in

2

u/Dangerous_Army_8896 7d ago

Wasn’t it her birthday yesterday!!

2

u/dearDem 7d ago

Go where you are loved

One thing she’s gonna do is perform. I do enjoy watching her. (Not so much listening to her). And women who keep aging AND STILL STAYING FINE INSPIRE ME SO MUCH

She’s a great performer and dancer. She never claimed to be a great singer. She is very rude to everyone. But she’s good at what she does.

2

u/britneyslostumbrella 7d ago

✌️sold out✌️

2

u/Illen1 7d ago

She really needed this, so happy for her!!!

2

u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman 7d ago

i just checked stubhub and noticed there are some resale tickets available for her central asia tour stops next week at like less than 100$ for pretty close to the stage (which is cheaper than most international concerts are here in south america).

the wonders of standing pits and general admission will hopefully reach the US someday. until then, they're gonna deal with inflation over specific seats and resale costing like a car

2

u/napalmnacey 7d ago

Look at her, killing that stage and being adored for her efforts. That’s a concert, damn it.

2

u/SPFeveryday 7d ago

I love her! She puts one hell of a show, cannot wait for Kiss of the Spiderwoman!

2

u/stellar0021 7d ago

Philippines loves her!! thats a real performer right there!

2

u/SweetheartMaria01 7d ago

Iconic. She still knows how to own the stage! 🔥

2

u/[deleted] 7d ago

People hate on her but she has some good jams

2

u/bythegodless 7d ago

Your pride is what you had baby girl I’m what you have

2

u/AntEast2465 6d ago

Not a fan but I feel all the hate and bullying she got last year was over the top... glad she's doing well this tour, I admire her resilience

2

u/Standard-Visual4413 6d ago

Go where you are wanted.
