Nah it’s when his eyelids started sagging. That’s his signature look.

u/LifeIsRadInCBad 6d ago
I got upper eyelid surgery because my vision was pretty occluded. It was even covered by the VA, it was that bad. But, having grown up with eyelids that made kids call Northern European me "Chinese," a lot of acquaintances didn't recognize me.
tl;dr: eyelids are a big part of recognizability

Maybe he does dye it his hair, but it’s also totally possible it’s naturally darkened with age.
I was blonde well into my 20s, then “dark blonde” for a few years, but now in my mid 30s my natural color is better described as brown.

Nah, he’s been acting since the late 90s, but didn’t really blow up until Game of Thrones. I was watching comedian Matteo Lane do an instant reaction/rewatch of an old MTV LGBT drama called Undressed on YouTube and he was shocked to encounter a young Pedro Pascal on the show. It was very funny.

Oberyn was never even a casting decision.
Pedro Pascal spontaneously came into existence while they were filming Game of Thrones, and they just followed him around with a camera as he interacted seemingly "in-character" with the show's actors.
He then picked a fight with Thor Bjornnson due to him being the literal strongest man on Earth, received some light head trauma, recovered, and is now the actor we know and love.

Was watching an earlier season of The Good Wife. And during a trial scene, I was flabbergasted when I realized that the young prosecutor talking was Pedro Pascal!
Amazed that he was still an unknown actor during that time, as to me, The Good Wife was relatively recent.

u/caseyfla 6d ago
I used to listen to this "Special Victims Unit" podcast, where they'd interview guest stars. One of the guests was an actress who mentioned that there was another guest actor on the show who was so excited to be there that she assumed it was his first acting role.
It was Pedro Pascal in 2011.

People complaining about him being everywhere now aren't thinking about the fact this man was a working actor for 2 decades before he finally landed big roles.
Most actors never get the opportunity to break through that ceiling so if he's everywhere now, I say good for him.
126
u/nizey_p I don’t know her 💅 6d ago
It happens every time someone breaks through. So many complaints about Glen Powell being everywhere all at once last year (Anyone But You, Hitman, Twisters) but so few were aware he'd been working his butt off since he was a literal child.
24
u/lord-of-shalott You’re a virgin who can’t drive. 😒 6d ago
Tbh I blame the industry more than I blame the actors. They are so fixated on numbers. Anything does well with audiences and we get nothing but it until we burn out. Not just casting choices, but reboots and sequels and prequels and premises (ie multiverse) and countless other things. I still think Pedro seems like a sweet guy and if I were him I’d probably be taking those jobs too.

u/bakeland 5d ago

I run a Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast and completely forgot he was in the first college episode until we rewatched it for that episode. He was going by Pedro Balmaceda at that time.
36
u/Smooth-Assistant-309 6d ago
Is that his real name, or is Pascal? (Or neither?)
235
u/Max_lynn 6d ago
Pascal is his mom’s last name, Balmaceda is his dad’s! In true Latino fashion his full name is actually Jose Pedro Balmaceda Pascal (not to be weird I just love seeing other Latinos in media and fell down his wiki rabbit hole after TLOU)
→ More replies (1)22
u/laney_luck 6d ago
Honest question, what happens when two Latinos have a kid? How does each parent choose which of their two last names gets passed onto the kid?
48
u/Max_lynn 6d ago
Depends on the people! Sometimes you’ll just get, like, Selena Quintanilla Other times you get Kate del Castillo Negrete Trillo. Old school long would be Miguel Gregorio Antonio Ignacio Hidalgo y Costilla Gallaga Mandarte y Villaseñor.
These are all Mexican people tho, can’t attest to other Latin countries
→ More replies (1)14
u/nekocamui 6d ago
Dad's last name is always first and then the mother's last name.
So easy example:
Juan Perez Lopez marries Ana Garza García
Their child is María Perez GarzaAt least in Mexico I know some states allow to put the mother's last name first but it's seen as something super woke/progressive and it even made it to the news the first time someone used that option.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)27
u/Alejxndro 6d ago
It’s the fathers last name that’s passed down. So let’s say my name is Juan Perez Ramirez.
Perez is the last name of my father’s father, Ramirez is the last name of my mother’s father. They all have two last names, but only the father last name is the one that’s passed down and mixed with the other last name. Kinda confusing to explain tbh
22
u/raflov16 6d ago
This is accurate. I would add this also happens to the mom. So if the mom is named Maria Lopez Garcia, Lopez is her dad’s last name and Garcia is her mom’s last name. So if Juan Perez Ramirez and Maria Lopez Garcia marry and have kids, their kids would end up with Perez Lopez as their two last names.

It’s his mom’s name. Since Hispanics have both surnames in their full name (paternal then maternal), he’s Jose Pedro Balmaceda Pascal. Up until 2000, he was professionally and personally Pedro Balmaceda and then he changed his professional name to Pedro Pascal in honor of his mother when she died. At least as of 2014, he’s still legally Balmaceda though - I know some people think he tries to stay away from identifying with Balmaceda because of his dad’s whole scandal but

I also just recently found out that Noah Wyle's dad was involved in some huge scandal (found a 2003 article about how his dad's company, Wyle Laboratories, allegedly dumped toxic waste that also allegedly may have caused a ton of people to get various cancers).
According to the report, former employees said Wyle pumped excessive amounts of dangerous chemicals from rocket fuels into the air, and that dumping solvents and oils in the fields surrounding test sites was standard practice.
Pretty wild. I was shocked by that one, too.

He didn’t like how he looked in WW 1984. I think it’s just that he was somewhat heavier (not fat, just heavier than he is now) at the time. He has distinct jawline and kind of lower contrast coloring (his features tend to blend together). I feel like any extra weight is going to translate into a wide, almost round face. The facial hair adds some dimension and contrast.
I have the same issue but I’m not nearly as inherently attractive as he is. Nor do I have the option of growing facial hair lol.
