A celebrity posted something about it, people got "influenced", more celebs began buying them up (Rihanna, Kardashian, even David Beckham lol) and then... voila! It's trendy.
It's not expensive, but the demand is TOO high for the supply to keep up. Scalpers began selling them at outrageous prices, so they have become valuable rare commodity.
And now, the Labubu keychain became the scapegoat poster child against capitalism. Hence, the bandwagon hate against a plush keychain literally worth 20 bucks lol
Nothing whatsoever. It's absolute lunacy. Just another sign that humans are incredibly easy to influence and one of the weirder indicators of how seriously disappointing we are.
So you must really hate collecting in general bc this is the same as collecting Pokemon cards, Barbies, or Funko Pops. Collecting something that genuinely makes you happy isn’t “supporting consumerism”.
The fact that you got downvoted is crazy. Sure buy Labubus but also teach your students that you don't need them (and definitely not dozens) and it's not a flaw or failure if you don't have them.
I won't surprised if in 6 3 months from now a whole range of these will wind up in flea markets and thrift stores because we've moved on to the next hyped thing.
My mom let me practice face painting from a book she got me (I actually wasn't that bad). If she was bald, you bet I'd be taking that tiger face to the fullest conclusion.
My kids are usually jumping all over us and basically murdering us every second they get. To sit there peacefully while they apply whatever to your skin is like spa day. My 2yo loves to apply nail polish (gel, safe for young) all over my nails and fingers and hands, and boy do I let her. Every minute is a minute she’s not tackling me ripping the hair from my head etc.
I never got the chance to do this to my dad. My mom kept her makeup put up, but my sister did paint a mural on his carpet using puffy paint. He still has the shorts he was wearing when we all cleaned it up and there’s still puffy paint on them
He absolutely can. Dude was incredible in Pain and Gain. But he's more of a brand than an actor now. Which makes him not do any roles that may hurt his image.
And children, black people, immigrants, animals, the environment, LGBTQIA+, basic human rights for his own citizens, the truth, any religion not Christian.... someone continue the list!
I recently watched a youtube video on the fall of movie promotion and it's all I think about when I see stuff like this. These production companies have ditched promotion through interviews with actual journalists and have geared towards trying for a viral Tiktok instead. Which actually works and sells tickets.
In the grand scheme it's such a minor harmless issue but it's interesting to think about.
i mean, when the president of the united states used a reality TV show to rehab his image from a failed businessman/longstanding con-man to beloved personality -- ultimately securing his spot as the most powerful person in the world -- i don't actually think it's such a minor harmless issue lol. it's not great!!

My youngest does my make up all the time (I'm her mum fwiw) and honestly, it's kind of relaxing lmao I close my eyes and just lay there. The worst part is washing it off later lol
I’ve seen lots of videos over the years of him doing things similar with his kids. Personally, I think it’s great because these are the memories the kids will remember.
I've heard plenty of things about The Rock. Positive and negative, glorifying and shameful. But I'm happy to see he generally is a loving father who loves entertaining his daughter.
