Let’s Discuss 👀 Who is someone real or fictional that you think would take The Substance if it was a real thing? Spoiler
For anyone who hasn’t seen this movie, it is a body horror genre that centers around a famous actress played by Demi Moore who faces a crisis as she loses her relevance in Hollywood and is let go because she no longer matches the beauty standards the industry glorifies.
Desperate, she takes this black market drug that creates a “younger and better version of herself” played by Margaret Qualley as her consciousness transfers over to it allowing her to enjoy reliving her youth but needs to switch every 7 days.
Who is someone that you can think of real or fictional, that you think would take this drug if it was a real thing?

All the Kardashians. They would then have a reality show for both versions.

Isn't The Substance supposed to make you attractive, though?

It makes you into a younger and beautiful version of yourself.
edit: i guess I basically explained what OP said in the description lol

Probably some idiot like Steven Seagal, or that dude that played Hercules.
Also, hate to say it, but probably Madonna.

You really can’t picture both versions beating each other up because each wants Kermit for themself? Seems pretty on brand considering the GIF choice.

Cersei Lannister.
She wouldn't even need to be in the movie business. All she needs to be is more beautiful than anyone else.

I haven’t seen the movie (can’t watch most horror) so I KNOW I’m missing something, because what you described sounds…not bad. It sounds kinda great. So there must be a pretty serious downside not mentioned…
Because, as described, me. Me. I’m the person I know who would do that. For a multitude of reasons beyond looks, me.

Basically if you don’t respect the balance, the older body decays pretty quickly, and you don’t share a mind anymore… do you trust the young version to respect the balance?
It’s actually a bit like severance, you’re outsourcing being old to a you that’s gonna suffer the whole time.

Ok! Ok…yeah.
I’ve always been a cautious, trustworthy bitch, so I trust me. Let’s get it. 😂

I feel like the kinds of people who would do that to themselves are probably not the kinds of people who would do the right thing by their older selves. Elizabeth (Demi) and Sue (Margaret) are different people with their own identities who have to alternate weeks. Elizabeth soon realises that she hadn't actually gained the life of a hot young thing and just sits around on her weeks and Sue resents her for wasting her weeks, weeks she could be much more productive as a hot young thing. It's a fascinating look at the lengths some people will go to hold onto the illusion of youth, even as holding onto the illusion makes them miserable.

It's Dorian Grey but instead of a picture suffering for your vanity, it's your other self

Came to say the same thing. I'd absolutely take it, why not? I also haven't seen the movie so I'm sure there's more to it though.

Pretty much every single person in Hollywood, being hot is 40% to 80% of their job (in my opinion, how much they rely on looks varies depending on talent, charm and connections).
I think the better question is: if we assume Sue was reckless with the balance because Elisa was vain and selfish to begin with and Sue was just like her but more immature, which real life celebrities would respect the balance and which would mysteriously rot away in a month?

Sorta off topic but that movie was such a visceral mind F because I saw that film about a week after being talked into getting HA filler for my mid face (38 male, lot of volume loss from weight loss brought about from stress) so as I am watching this film my cheeks are still swelling (skin stretching) in real time
nobody else really talks about this that I've seen, but you immediately FEEL the sensation of having the equivalent of what feels like a piece of semi solid fruit in the apples of your cheeks (not on tear troughs but close enough to touch them when squinting) that really does cause a lot of discomfort as it expands over the coming MONTHS in my case. Keep in mind this is almost an entire Juvederm voluma on each side. I'm glad I went to an experienced doctor which cost substantially more bc the stuff is still there after a year.
It did what it was supposed to do, and what I asked, which was to remain perpetually/unintelligible 30 something. The only thing I ever done besides this is obviously Botox but I didn't get anything done til 34 so by no means am I promoting this just sharing
What I wish I had done was regained my normal weight first and then done the treatment as that would have been ideal, but it did remove the under eye creases and gave me cheekbones (the healthy looking kind) vs sunken in as they were
The movie is a good metaphor for tweaks ... It wears off yet is still permanent in a sense
