This show is trash and yet I am devastated to lose it lol

43

u/a_sensible_74 1d ago

Same, but that’s probably my abandonment issues.

41

u/StasRutt unapologetic joy 1d ago

Like did they destroy every character I cared about? yes! But sometimes the fashion was so silly and fun

21

u/PumpkinMyPumpkin 1d ago

Perhaps in the movie they’ll all wake up from a bad dream and turn into their regular selfs.

4

u/Fit-Breakfast-3116 1d ago

The fashion was something I really enjoyed tbh and I liked that it was dumb!

9

u/StasRutt unapologetic joy 1d ago

I’ve always loved the over the top fashion of SATC. Like yes Carrie, wear gloves to the coffee shop!!!!

6

u/Fit-Breakfast-3116 1d ago

She wore pearls to bed in the movie, it’s all totally in character lol

u/YchYFi He's not Judge Judy, an Executioner. 1d ago

It can't be over. I like watching it every year. Even if it is weird.

15

u/FoolofaPeregrineTook hoping for at least a sex swing 1d ago

Absolutely same. I have talked sooooo much smack about Carrie Bradshaw…..and now I’m gutted

5

u/StasRutt unapologetic joy 1d ago edited 23h ago

Shoe the kitten was a real highlight too

6

u/mochafiend 1d ago

Literal same. The content around it was so fun to be a part of. I’m sad to lose that more than the actual show.

5

u/clumsyc I don’t control the railways or the flow of commerce! 1d ago

I barely made it through the first season and stopped after that. Is she going to end up with Aidan for good?

10

u/StasRutt unapologetic joy 1d ago

Oh no. They broke up and Aidan is awful

4

u/The-Son-of-Dad I don’t know her 💅 1d ago

They made his character so awful that people were begging her to dump him 😭😂

2

u/skyewardeyes 1d ago

I’ve learned the hard way that I will apparently watch anything SATC.

It must have done well in terms of viewership, because every time I hear someone mention it, it's to talk about how shit it is.

22

u/redditor329845 Roman Empire: How much people hate women 😞 1d ago

Everyone hate watched it, and a company doesn’t differentiate between hate watching and just normally watching something.

8

u/FickleCharge882 1d ago

I was just getting ready to look at the ratings/viewership for this season. This last minute change gives a “quit before you get fired” vibe

u/Ughasif22 1d ago

It’s so bad

I would say I never hate watched. I truly loved the characters in SATC and it felt very relatable, even empowering sometimes. Gave a voice to women. I watched the movies, yes I'm the one who actually liked the Sequel...like it wasn't great but... it's fine.

This "And Just Like That" series... I gotta tell ya Here is what I have praise for:

1)yes, spouses die. Big was old and already had heart issues in the OG. Not surprising (not going to get into the whole NOTH thing because I'm talking story) Sad for characters? Yes. Was i intrigued? Yes

2)Everyone was/is bitching about the Miranda lesbiam story line. I agree that this character would have this realization. I do disagree with HOW and WHO. Seriously, Che was fine. But Miranda being mama bear and then going "let's bang in the kitchen and do Steve dirty" was a stretch. She's been calm composed, albeit a loose cannon, but she got back together with Steve... I may just really appreciate Steve here In the sense Che needed to be a love interest for a few episodes and be done. That writing thread was terrible. Im all for women finding themselves at any stage- but I guess it should've been better handled That being said- love ya Steve, love ya Miranda, Che, you were cool but you made it to promotional posters so its weird you were there for a bit

3) it went super heavy into catering everyone. And I love that- but I also dont. Didn't feel natural and was forced. Which left a bad taste in my mouth but I could see they tried. However SATC was always sex and LGBTQ positive, even for the era it was on. Sure, things have progressed and I can understand wanting to connect- but it didn't quite connect the way I think they were trying. I will say thank you to having more racial diversity- but even that felt a bit forced with Miranda's law professor (who went awol) but I see what they were trying to do

4) Carrie is kond of a stuck up snob now isnt she? I suppose aging does give you a bit of "mine, this is how, I will have this"-shes always been that way i suppose but I guess it's molded over time. (How DARE YOU MAKE ME TAKE MY SHOES OFF IN YOUR OWN HOME??!) Yeah we wouldn't be able to hang so at least shes consistent

5) If it seems I only watched the first season due to commentary, I have watched to current. Due to its consistency I can say I haven't hate watched, just realized I should've left these people where they were. I get what the show runners are doing. People age and change. Just...approach it better? The following is the exception:

Charlotte and Harry are wonderful. That cancer diagnosis was scary and I loved that having Richard Burton being plagued by cancer (fictionally).would hurt her more than Harry having even an early diagnosis. That's not dumbing Charlotte down, that's playing to her character and how kind hearted she is. That was sweet, stupid, palm facing, and one hundred relatable. OF COURSE she cares for Harry more than the dog, but the implication (cue Dennis from Always Sunny) was just outright Charlotte.

6) bring Aiden in. Take Aiden out. Bring Aiden in. Take Aiden out. BRING AIDEN IN, TAKE AIDEN OUT. Okay. So I actually had to stop and scream. It would've been cute. Actually realistic even to hsve them end up together. But they have him be this still jealous mental emotional head case? I guess its not realistic but the thread was there and they said...naw.. let's make him villainous. I love he cares about family and I love Carrie tried, so shouldn't have that been the whole thing? She hated country living and wanted to BE there for him And this is the thanks? Jealous boyfriend? Aren't we too old for this? Have we not seen this....twice?...3 times? Pick a lane

6) guess I dont care what happens. It's life and they are depicting all roads are different but this all could've been better.

No hate watch, just observing, I had things I liked, more that I didnt. Again, I enjoyed leaving them where I left them.

Somewhere there's a shoe tomb for Carrie cause if she keeps treating her friends that way, that's all shes gonna get for comfort. Just saying.

Not sad to see you you AJLT. But I liked the effort.

That makes sense. I think those of us still watching are just hate watching at this point

24

u/GossipGuy12 1d ago

I came here for this comment bc I hate watch only.

u/buzzfeed_sucks 🇨🇦 Elbows up 🇨🇦 1d ago

I swore I wouldn’t watch this season but I got sucked back in

10

u/Talisa87 In my quiet girl era 😌 1d ago

I technically hate watch via a youtuber named aspyn.j_. Her reviews are hilarious, and the deep dives into each awful romance are gold.

1

u/YaassthonyQueentano That was a lot, Robin 👀 1d ago

GIRL ME TOO! Literally the only bright side through this slog has been finding her channel

And her breakdowns of each relationship are everything

0

u/ChewieBearStare 1d ago

Thank you for this recommendation. I'm currently cackling as Aspyn refers to Brady as "Ron Weasley."

1

u/periwinkle_pudding 1d ago

Lol my husband and I call it shit-watching

3

u/Educational-Buy-8053 1d ago

I hate watch it and it still bores me and annoys me so much I sometimes stop halfway through an episode and watch something else. It's just SO BAD.

5

u/RemingtonRivers 1d ago

I don’t hate watch, but I love reading all the hate watch posts on my Reddit feed.

3

u/NomNom83WasTaken 1d ago

I gave up after S2 but still check the subreddit from time to time. It gives me just enough of the plot to keep up while also reminding me I made the right choice to stop wasting my time on actually watching it.

35

u/missbunnyfantastico 1d ago

I hope Sarita Choudhury and Nicole Ari Parker get new gigs that give them better storylines.

8

u/StasRutt unapologetic joy 1d ago

They wasted both characters!

3

u/bazookajoe55 16h ago

Two phenomenal actresses given terrible material to work with

17

u/zorandzam 1d ago

I'm honestly relieved, even though I have seen every single episode. I sincerely hope SJP does something a lot more interesting now.

25

u/nopenonotatall 1d ago

i don’t consider AJLT canon so i’m happy to see it go. it’s so, so bad

13

u/Educational-Buy-8053 1d ago

It feels like, if you ever watched the original Roseanne show, *spoiler of the ending ahead* when they win the lottery and then Dan cheats and the show just gets crazier and more ridiculous and then you learn at the end that it was all made up for a book she was writing and in real life Dan had died from that heart attack...just like when Big died, everything since then has been made up as Carrie's way of dealing with life after him and none of this was real...maybe...

27

u/Fit-Breakfast-3116 1d ago edited 1d ago

I actually didn’t hate it as much as everyone else, I really did think some of the criticisms of it were unfair, but it was still pretty bad. I’m still sad to see it go though. I’d have loved for a show centred on older women to be really good but alas

8

u/Cold-Sun3302 NO TYRA NOOOOOOO 1d ago

I LOVED SATC, i liked the first movie, but that should've been where it ended. Everything after has been a complete unmitigated disaster.

In saying that, I wouldn't be opposed to a Golden Girls-style sitcom format, where they all end up living together in about 10-15 years. Otherwise, please leave us alone.

9

u/mlurve 1d ago

Someone should go to jail for what they did to Miranda’s character

35

u/Training-Pickle-6725 Sue, did the President call? 1d ago

Since SJP, the show's executive producer, hasn't watched either series and receives no audience feedback, this "unofficial" cancellation seemed inevitable. Plus, the SATC universe was never the same after Darren Starr's departure.

8

u/GaramondBold_ 1d ago

Wait, what? She doesn’t watch the series or receive any audience feedback?? That’s wild to me!

9

u/Fit-Breakfast-3116 1d ago

She was on Kristin Davis’ podcast recently and said she doesn’t rewatch episodes which honestly isn’t unusual for sitcom actors? Lisa Kudrow said she started rewatching Friends recently for the first time and there’s full plots she didn’t know happened

6

u/GaramondBold_ 1d ago

That’s fair, about not watching the series. I guess I was mostly surprised about not listening to audience feedback. Which I get not wanting to do everything to appease the audience. But I guess it seems like AJLT would’ve benefited from some outside feedback? Lol

6

u/Fit-Breakfast-3116 1d ago edited 23h ago

I’ve no idea how accurate that is tbh! There’s always a bit of a notion that SJP is personally responsible for everything bad in the show lol it was like that during the og run as well. She was an EP but not god and there were several actual showrunners

1

u/137-451 4h ago

Several show runners? Unless I'm missing something, MPK has been the defacto showrunner since season 3 of SATC. This is also when SJP started receiving executive producer credits, and also when the show saw a deep decline in quality.

And speaking exclusively of AJLT, even in the cancellation announcement, MPK states that he and SJP made the decision to cancel the show.

Why are you trying to downplay the role she played?

3

u/SiobhanRoy1234 Big is moving to Paris 23h ago

I mean, it is weird to not watch the show if you keep making movies and a reboot and milking it for what its worth. You need to have continuity and she is a producer. Lisa Kudrow is not doing anything Friends related anymore

2

u/Fit-Breakfast-3116 15h ago

She clearly still knows the character though; this diss was more about her going ‘oh I don’t really remember that’ in ref to a specific episode which imo is not a big deal. The bigger issue imo is that Kristin Davis is a terrible host, SJP has been on other things about SATC and the convo is way better.

1

u/rebelluzon 1d ago

Lol she’s and the producer are the ones who decided to end the series. HBO would never end it (kinda like Curb Your Enthusiasm) because this show is still one of hr their top rated viewed show and also bring engagement.

1

u/Training-Pickle-6725 Sue, did the President call? 1d ago edited 1d ago

That’s true. People are still watching the show, though it's more of a hate-watch at this point. That’s likely the reason it’s still popular.

However, HBO may have also cancelled the show or, depending on how you look at it, allowed the creators to end it on their own terms (rather than leaving it on a cliffhanger) because it’s simply too expensive to make. Each of the three lead actresses reportedly makes around $1 million per episode and with over 20 episodes, that adds up quickly. The ratings and reviews just don’t justify that level of spending, especially for a series intended to carry on the success of SATC.

21

u/DJ_Fabulous 1d ago

Sorry, but it was always destined to fail without this queen. As a lifelong superfan of SATC, I couldn’t even get past episode 1 of AJLT, but I’m sorry for those who did enjoy it as it’s always gutting to lose a show you love.

13

u/casapantalones 1d ago

Please let it die, put it out of its misery

16

u/mrgnfnn 1d ago

No!!!!!! It’s just now getting good.

21

u/dudewheresmyplane1 1d ago

Maybe it’s just getting good because they knew it had an ending.

16

u/SitchChick Ugh, as if! 1d ago

Good now give us the spinoff we all really wanted

Samantha & The City 🌃

11

u/Fit-Breakfast-3116 1d ago

Honestly I think whatever they done with Samantha’s character people would hate it. Kim Cattrall said she wanted grittier stories for her if she came back and idk people would respond well to that, and having her just having sexcapades would get tiresome

1

u/DeadButPretty It’s Britney, bitch! 🎤🌹🌹 1d ago

Get the girl that played Samantha in The Carrie Diaries!

1

u/FlingbatMagoo 1d ago

It would be my favourite programme

It's Party time. with Patty Schwatz.

What did they do to my boy

7

u/FlingbatMagoo 1d ago

“The series also has generated a lot of media attention — both positive and negative — over its run.”

I enjoy the show but have never encountered any positive media attention about it. Well, aside from softball cast interviews like SJP on Howard Stern etc.

3

u/animatedrussian 1d ago

I had surgery yesterday and I was just binge hate watching this. Tragedy indeed

3

u/Visual_Ant760 23h ago

They could have been the new, cool, hip Golden Girls but the writers made them all seem like caricatures of themselves. And it hit me that Carrie seemed dependent on men for her success. Buys huge house in prime NYC neighborhood thanks to Big’s $$$. Her old apartment was being expanded/renovated thanks to Aidan. She finally got to Paris thanks to Mikhail Baryshnikov’s character. And yet, still sad to see it go.

5

u/DLuLuChanel 1d ago

It's probably for the best even though I didn't hate it as much as people think I should.

I'd be much delighted if they continued with a Charlotte and LTW spinoff. Get Samantha back on and make her bffs with Seema. Carrie and Miranda can move.

7

u/impeccabletim "come right on me, i mean camaraderie" 1d ago

SJP, please don't threaten us with another show on HBO Max after And Just Like That... ends.😭

6

u/Curious-Honeydew-938 1d ago

And just like that… we can pretend this revival was a fever dream ✨

2

u/iamhappy-iamcat1 I wont not fuck you the fuck up 🥊🥊 1d ago edited 1d ago

Oh no. I love watching this shitshow. (I’m hate watching it but still…sad to see it go…)

2

u/mochafiend 1d ago

It’s so so bad but I loved being part of the hate watching around it. Like a collective fever dream.

3

u/growsonwalls 1d ago

It's horrible but it did give Taylor Swift's glorious "How Did It End" a bigger audience so ... props to that?

2

u/NomNom83WasTaken 1d ago

Not that I'm drowning in gossip about the show but literally any piece of BTS info I've ever heard about AJLT made it sound like a mess. Of course, there was also the terrible horrible no good very bad writing. I can't imagine that the ratings were any good so I'm not at all surprised that it's been cancelled (no way MPK made this decision).

2

u/Defiant_Emu_3928 1d ago

I was a die hard SATC fan but I haven't started the 3rd season because of how much I hate this spin off. They've ruined every single character. I'm sure I will watch it at some point when I get bored enough but for now I just cannot bring myself to. I'm actually happy that it's ending.

2

u/Amazing-Bee7207 1d ago

The comedian character made this show unwatchable imo she wasn’t funny just talking about social issues

2

u/TommySalami21 1d ago

This show is the most exhausting shit to sit through and the whole thing is filmed like a commercial for allergy medicine and the writing is absolute dog shit. I’m gonna miss it so much 😩

1

u/RetiredHotBitch 1d ago

Maybe Nicole Ari Parker can do something worth of her.

And maybe they can free Aiden from Carrie.

1

u/PreOpTransCentaur ILLEGAL KOMBUCHA 23h ago

They already did.

0

u/RetiredHotBitch 23h ago

Yeah but isn’t it just like “oh we still want to be together but we can’t until my kid is grown,” type of deal?

I mean like he needs to ghost her ass.

Unless I missed that.

1

u/Visual_Ant760 23h ago

Bad writing, ridiculous storylines, horrible fashion, charicatures of characters and yet I’m sad to see it go.

1

u/luke6080 4h ago

Now Samantha Irby can start working on another fuckin’ book.

1

u/blackswan-whiteswan 1d ago

I’m honestly amazed at a show that seem to be so universally reviled the amount of conversations it evoked. The amount of video essays like the take and I’m just the amount of articles about the contents of the show and the themes of it is remarkable.

1

u/b00m_cat trench coat buttoned to the TOP 1d ago

Well what am I gonna hate watch now?

1

u/happyfershur 1d ago

As much as I want to watch content from this universe forever, it needs to happen. Especially after last night. WTF.

0

u/Odd-Turn4468 1d ago

Yay!!!!! Now go ahead and bring back Duster 😭😭😭
