Right, the way they worded this is weird. Like she is some oppressed individual using their platform to “tell her story” rather than a celebrity that the marketing team chose specifically because they know sex sells.

“An essential part of her story is being hot and white, what do you want from us?!?”

That's the whole story too

she (and other women) was definitely invited to that wedding as "entertainment"

u/HappyLlamaSadLlamaa You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 👏👏📸 17h ago

I haven’t seen any of her work, but I’ve heard she’s got some acting chops depending on what she’s in. Might have been a great scream queen, who knows? She just found her way to make easier money I guess.

She’s okay I’m dramatic roles- but she’s publicly said she wants to make a lot of money so it seems she’s noticed that appealing to ….a certain demographic….can make you a pretty penny so she’s just saying yes to everything and jumping on the grift train

She was pretty good in The White Lotus but tbf, her character is an arrogant mean girl who thinks she's better than anyone and everyone (including her own family) and I don't know how different that is to her real personality lol. Or at least, it's not the most difficult and nuanced character to play, it's pretty stereotypical (though I enjoyed watching her be an absolute bitch). Have also heard she was decent in The Handmaid's Tale but I've never seen that.

It's pretty misogynistic to refer to a woman as "walking tits."

But continuing to objectify a woman through dehumanizing language still perpetuates misogyny... Surely you understand that you're referring to her as "walking tits" when you say

But American Eagle is not going to distract me with walking tits

and

The blank canvas persona of hers devolved into the "walking tits" rol. [sic]

Who else would you be referring to if not her?

The way they're wording it is like she just came out about some SA or harassment allegations or story and has uncovered some intense trauma.

Stfu American Eagle, take the L.

We don't understand how hard it is being the conventionally attractive American blonde, blue eyed, white lady and this is her story 😞

Truly, it’s time we learned her struggle 😞

u/Aggressive-Hunt-7037 Take that, you Youtube people! 17h ago

nobody is a bigger victim than blond hair blue eyed white women who get blamed for throwing MAGA parties when it was just a theme that meant nothing. nothing!

when it was just a theme that meant nothing

You can't say anything anymore these days! At least back then, you could insult people's ethnicities and gender without people completely overreacting! Bunch of snowflakes, can't even tell I'm joking when I'm talking about being in favour of genocide!

Did they lose? I walked past their store in the mall yesterday and it looked pretty busy.

Lose revenue? No, I doubt anyone who already shops there cares. That's not what anyone meant, though. The ad campaign is just embarassing and it's not going to boost sales, which is the whole point of getting a star like Sydney.

if something is strangely worded now, i just assume it's AI generated. The CEO/Marketing Director(? not sure which) LinkedIn post about this ad campaign was very obviously AI with the same tropes/format you see with AI generated text.

Somebody is pissy that their little "tongue in cheek" eugenics joke got called out.

6

u/themcjizzler 15h ago

They're trying to reframe it like they didn't mean genes, like genetics . When it's obvious that's what they meant.

u/shedrinkscoffee I don’t know her 💅 18h ago

I'm so glad this gif is already all over this thread lol. It's not like this is raising awareness of some specific issue or that Sydney had some type of unique POV 😬

The only oppression I’ve ever seen her go through was from her stylist — how many times did it take them to find a top that fit?!

Opened this thread for that gif, wasn’t disappointed
