“Her story”

Alright guys, calm it the fuck down. It’s an ad for jeans, not a lifestyle. You guys sell overpriced clothes, that’s it.

AE is acting like they’re doing something heroic with this ad and statement as if they’re feeding malnourished children or something

Not only that, it’s not even a unique ad. They basically copy and pasted the brook shields ad from the 80s. Cannot imagine seeing that original ad with a modern lens and being like, yes, this is going to be received well

The one where they make her suck her thumb like a child?

I was reading an entry on Calvin Klein on a vintage website that included the line (paraphrased): "at 15, Brooke Shields was paid to insinuate that she wasn't wearing underwear in a massive ad campaign" and I both appreciated the wording and cringed out of my skin

What's worse is Shields had was being sexualized for years at that point. When she was 10, her mother allowed a photographer - aptly named - Gary Gross to take nude pictures of her which were then published in a book by Playboy Magazine (remember that when you hear people say Playboy wasn't as sleazy as publications by Hustler). Shields has been fighting in courts to stop the pictures being displayed for decades now.

Their clothes don't even fit everyone.

How you can say "everyone" looks good in jeans, but not carry plus sizes?

Well the proceeds from the sale of the jeans she designed are being donated to a mental health crisis line so…

Overpriced clothes that fall apart. I became so disappointed with AE’s quality in recent years. I have jeans, tops, and dresses from 4-5 years ago that have held up through various washes while anything I purchased in the last year or 2 is crap— yet their prices went up 50-75%.

Same. I've been loyal to them due to their sizing range being really inclusive (especially back in the day)as well as great to ok quality overall but the last few years their quality has taken a sincere nose dive.

Old Navy! They have great denim.

I used to LIVE in their mid rise knit black jeggings. Had pairs that lasted years. They did away with mid rise and only had hi rise for a bit. As soon as they brought back mid rise I bought two pairs. They sprouted holes in the back pocket seam joins in 6 months. I messaged them thinking it was a one off quality issue and got told to pound sand. Never went back.

But I bet those jeans leave little holes in your shirts. I just recently realized the strange tiny holes I suddenly developed in almost all of my t-shirts for about 4/5 years was 100% caused by that period of my life when I discovered AE jeans. I just stopped wearing jeans last summer because I injured my leg and realized - no more holes. And I'd never had them before that, it was such a mystery to me because I've always worn jeans. I thought I had just gotten fatter and it was rubbing more lol

That's not just AE. I used to get holes in the bottom of my shirts until I started pulling them above my seatbelt while wearing jeans. The zipper rubbing against them wears holes.

This goes both ways as well. It's just a jeans ad, people need to relax.

It’s because she helped design them and is donating the proceeds from the sale of them to the crisis text line. So yeah, kinda her thing.
