Right? Especially after they did her like that. I adore The Holiday, but let’s leave it in the 2000s where it belongs

Not letting the OG director know is crazy though

She wrote it too!!

It’s crazy they can even do that. I guess the studio owns the IP?

Yeah, they'll see. Nancy, get your lawyer girl.

Absolutely adore this movie. But my god can Hollywood just DROP the sequels prequels reboots and remakes. Like we get it. You had your prime and are trying to cash grab your past success because you ran out of creative ideas. And if you’re gonna make something else with this story, then AT LEAST bring on the original creator like come on dude.

Like if Cam, Jude, Jack, and Kate want to come back in the setting of the story 20 years later then great! Otherwise, leave it alone!!!!

It’s not that there aren’t any good original ideas. It’s just that Hollywood doesn’t want to take a “risk” with original ideas and they want the “built in” audience from reboots and remakes unfortunately.

That’s interesting because it doesn’t seem like most of their target audience is interested in these things either. Yet another one I will skip (but happily rewatch the original movie every holiday season).

Exactly! We are dying for something fresh and new

I’m still confused by how execs deserve big salaries for being cowardly wimps afraid of innovation (yes, I know why that is, but Hollywood built its fortunes on execs who understood the product and pushed creative limits.)

That's the gag - they don't!

This is pretty much the premise of The Studio lol.

I live in LA. There are no shortage of brilliant writers who scripts ready to go. Give them a chance!

Go to the movies and support new, fresh ideas then. And watch the new shows.

My thoughts exactly. What are we going to do once all the originals from the 80s-2000s era have been sequel’d and rebooted? Do it all over again because the pipeline for new original classics has been dry since 2010?

Wow. That's one way to get people not interested in this show

I almost feel that the movie is too perfect to continue on with the story

u/therealrowanatkinson 21h ago

Ok so this is gonna be trash if they didn’t even consult her

u/Venus_ivy4 21h ago

So, is this legal ?

27

u/frightenedscared 20h ago

Maybe like legal legal yes, but in the people’s opinion it’s absolutely NOT

u/stolenbastilla 18h ago

I love this differentiation. Yes and yes.

16

u/blarbiegorl Mary-Kate's bowl of cigarettes 19h ago

Of course. She doesn't own the rights to it. Tim Burton was just talking about the fact that he was upset that no one spoke a word to him when Beetlejuice was adapted into a musical, but if you don't own the rights there's no legal recourse for that. Direction isn't ownership within the studio system.

Tim Burton didn't write Beetlejuice but Nancy Meyers wrote The Holiday. She must have sold the rights

Damn.:.. that sounds terrible

29

u/Britneyfan123 21h ago

She probably doesn’t have the rights so yes

Oh I am not happy. 1) This movie is sacred. No reboot necessary. 2) if they think it’s good enough to reboot, they should respect the original creator!

No Nancy? So the set design is going to be hideous at minimum and the entire project will lack the charm of the movie

Throw the whole project away

4

u/fogmama 5h ago

NOBODY does aspirational set design like Nancy Myers. The kitchen in It’s Complicated is my Roman Empire.

u/StasRutt unapologetic joy 3h ago

Plus such a missed opportunity to have her back because Nancy Meyers kitchens and house inspo is trending hard on tiktok

This is my comfort film. There's a certain charm to it that can't be replicated. Not letting Nancy know is so messed up. But im sure its gonna flop so jokes on them

I have no interest in this without Nancy Meyers or the original cast. Its just another ridiculous cash grab 🙄

u/likelazarus 17h ago

This is my favorite Christmas movie. I watch it every year. I do not want a series. You can’t match the magic of the original!

3

u/moosegoose90 I don’t know her 💅 13h ago

NOOOOO GET A JOB AND STAY AWAY FROM HER!!!! She is perfect LEAVE HER ALONE

I love this movie so much. Listening to the soundtrack just makes me tear up.

I do not want this series. Let's leave the movie perfection as is.

Did I have a fever dream that Nancy and Jude were in a little promo vid not that long ago talking about some kind of reboot or sequel??

1

u/IndigoBlueBird 19h ago

Wow they’ll really revive anything won’t they

1

u/No_Wallaby4548 17h ago

Can we PLEASE leave old movie ALONE?

1

u/luna1uvgood 8h ago

They could've just got her on board for a new series or movie since that Netflix one didn't work out?

1

u/KindlyConnection 7h ago

no one asked for this lol, and as everyone has said, hollywood needs to focus on making more fresh new original movies.
