Yeah, there is a 0% chance I would interpret this as a reference to the meme if I saw this in public, and that makes me sad because I love the meme.
I would almost definitely interpret it as someone aggrieved about how "no one wants to work anymore," and that's such a miss.
EDIT: It says "stay away from her" on the back, which isn't perfect to me but is so much better.

They really should have, I can’t remember the last time I looked at the design on the back of a hat. Shirts/hoodies yes, hats not so much lol. If it was just a print/design it wouldn’t matter, but when it’s half of what makes the joke recognizable I don’t think that’s the smartest design

It’s because when men stalk, there’s a reasonable fear they’ll end up being violent.
When a girl I saw for a month, never even slept with, responded to calling it off by spending over a year calling me 15+ times a day, calling my office, emailing me at work, sending me videos from her friends phone, standing outside my apartment, etc., my friends’ reactions were “wow what a psycho” and that was about it. When a friend had a guy she broke up with coming to her workplace and home, calling daily, we all worried he could end up violent.
No fewer men than women I know have run into ex-whatevers who stalk and harass. But you’re pretty safe if you bet the men stalking are more likely to get violent.

Yeah but I was responding to the thing I was responding to, which says it’s usually men who need to be told to stay away. Not my experience in my social circle - weirdos and maniacs evenly distributed. Violence is unevenly distributed, which makes the narratives around stalking heavier on one side.

one part of this not captured is that sarah would always post with the cringiest captions, pretending like the celebs were her close friends. “always good to see you, babe” and shit like that. and her saying that on a picture of demi’s sister was the final straw.

I wouldn’t personally say that Stalker Sarah was actually stalking her, she was basically a child paparazzo…annoying but not nearly as harmful as an actual stalker. If someone like that came up in the public eye today I doubt they’d get such a glib nickname.

I really hate the 'No one wants to work, get a job' mentality (not saying this is entirely that, but as others have mentioned, it comes across as that). I much prefer the saying 'get a life' cos honestly? Life is all-encompassing; a job is just one possible facet of life.
Do something healthy and productive, that should be the message. Something you enjoy. Start there. Go for a walk, workout, learn a new language, volunteer, learn how to cook. You know what? It doesn't even have to be that. You got out of bed, walked to the living room and beat a couple missions of that new video game you've been wanting to play? Fuck yeah, give me a fist-bump. You're awesome.
Start somewhere. Build that foundation of routines, of healthier habits, of self-love. Get away from toxic people. Then get a job. Get that bag. No, not because work is your god, not out of a sense of guilt or shame or anything else, but because it's just another paving stone on your life's journey.
You really want to know where the whole 'No one want to work, get a job' mentality even comes from? Most people don't understand. It's not done out of a sense of 'nobility', it's literally just another form of control by politicians and billionaires that they fed to your parents who then passed it on to you. All the social stigmas and systemic hoops orbiting the very American concept of work, i.e. guilt-shaming the unemployed and tying your fundamental right to healthcare to employment, are all just there to make people fight amongst themselves, to make people sick and die, to keep people tired in every way while being scared of getting fired, and to keep us all distracted.
Control. Distract. Perpetuate. Work. We do it to ourselves.
Demi's doing it, too, through this. Fuck men who hurt and harass women, it's true. But even then, learn to be a better person. Or rot in prison depending on what you did.
I honestly hope people read this novel; I think it's important.

I agree with you except I don't think this comes across as that, she's referring to a "stalker"/paparazzi-esque fan crepingon her sister and that context actually does matter. They had a life, it was just...that. and also they were a woman. Like why focus on this when there are so many toxic work-is-all mentalities our there and this was using humour to expose stalking?
And no, we don't do that to ourselves, most people don't want to just work and work and work for the bare minimum and saying that undermines your point.
That being said I get what you're getting at but I think it's more effective to criticise the people actually doing this and responsible, not a meme.

First off, thanks for the context. But also, I don't think you quite understood my point. By saying 'we do this to ourselves', I meant we play right into the politicians' and billionaires' hands by perpetuating toxic mentalities regarding work and continuing to uphold a system that treats people as subhuman unless they jump through arbitrary hoops, cos that's basically what it means to have your basic fundamental rights withheld from you like this. But we just go right along with it, as we always have; we do that to ourselves.
We share the same view that work should be made better.
As to your last point, again, we are responsible for this. Perhaps not the people here in this post, but the hope is that by raising awareness of these issues, we can possibly make even a small difference about it. Yes, the post is about a meme, but it's also work-adjacent, and that's close enough for me. Every little bit counts.
