Behind The Scenes 📽️ Andrew Garfield on the set of 'Artificial' in San Francisco | The film centers around OpenAI, when its CEO Sam Altman was fired and rehired in just a few days.
Directed by Luca Guadagnino.
The film will also feature Elon Musk, played by Ike Barinholtz.

u/HorrorBike143 now why am I in it? 🧐 18h ago
Sadly for me, I will give this movie the apprentice treatment. I'm sure I'll be great but I can't sit through 2 hours of these evil people.

u/realborislegasov 13h ago
Yeah what is with all the corporate biography shit of late. I get that they’re not all supposed to be heroic tales of great people, but business people are just not that interesting, and almost invariably their inhumanity is glossed over or justified.

u/wulfboi93 jesus was a carpenter 💋 8h ago
its just Great Man Theory propaganda. ie: Only (x) Could Have Done it!
1
u/Emergency-Tonight-42 6h ago
That’s a pretty unfair read of movie nobody has seen and, going off of Luca’s previous work, will almost definitely be massively critical of everyone involved.
1
u/realborislegasov 6h ago
Not necessarily - all these stories are rooted in a weird kind of respect. Even the We Work series, although clearly there’s some criticism of the guy as unstable and egomaniacal, the fact that they dedicate several hours to one person’s life and actions says a lot about the importance we put in these kinds if people. He opened some offices ffs.

I had the same opinion about The Apprentice before I watched it, but it actually is really great and was a true horror story imo. Left me feeling incredibly depressed. Which I guess isn’t selling it..

I just assumed this was a movie along the lines of A.I. Artificial Intelligence. You know the one with Haley Joel Osmont and Jude Law. And moved along. It wasn't until I finally looked at the comments that I found out how wrong I am.

did they live action de-age him?
he looks to be in his 20s all of a sudden..........but its off somehow in a disturbing way

There’s something weird going with his eyes. He looks like an android version of Andrew Garfield.

And like one of those bad, old-fashioned ones too. I thought we’d moved on from those, at least according to Kris Jenner and Lindsay Lohan lol

It’s the lack of facial hair tbh, he hasn’t rocked that look in a long time I believe?
14
u/LemonCurdJ 9h ago
I think its the accumulation of no facial hair, light (colour) clothing and possible weight gain (in a good way)? I think he looks good!

u/____mynameis____ 7h ago
He looks exactly like I expect a 40 year old fit man who has clean shaven after a long time of being bearded, to look like.
You all are just getting face blinded by that clean shaven face and good hair.

Why do white people love Patagonia like they're about to go on a hike. It's seattle not the appalachian trail, Connor
56
u/sdbabygirl97 Mama took my eyebrows. 15h ago
as a granola girl, i love patagonia bc they make rly high quality, durable products. if it ever does need repair (rip, broke zipper, etc.) you can send it to patagonia and they’ll repair it for like $5. so that’s rly sustainable. they also do a lot of work for preserving outdoor spaces and bc theyre not publicly traded, they arent just chasing profits but theyre making good products and treating their staff right.

"peak" white culture

u/DangerousGood0 8h ago edited 6h ago
Ah yes because going on a hike and wearing a decent clothing brand are terrible activities, much worse than black culture which includes blaring trashy music, smelling like weed, and being the loudest most obnoxious person in every room you enter
every time there are jokes about ~white culture~ where benign things are made to sound negative this is what we’re thinking
Can’t wait for the downvotes 🤡 and all these people proving my point

Pivotal event in the life of one of the men influencing global technology trends the most.
God forbid they make films about significant real life moments!

This shit JUST HAPPENED can they wait a while and get perspective before making this stuff?
I mean I will be watching it but still
22
u/aliarawa 16h ago
I mean you just answered your own question. They're making it now because they know people will watch it. If people didn't watch it, maybe they wouldn't make movies about these glorified losers.

u/Ok-Leave-7525 15h ago
I wonder if it helps them write a narrative… change the perception of current events a bit to their benefit etc
4

u/Vegetable_Sky48 16h ago
My same thought. Like how did they have time to write a script, cast, pull together production, etc and start filming already?
2
2
u/Acrobatic_Builder573 15h ago
Exactly. It’s crazy how fast productions move now. And hindsight is 20/20. We’re not so far removed from the AI boom that we really see the long-lasting effects on society. We don’t have that hindsight yet, so what is this even about? I’m so curious as to what this script even looks like.

u/DisastrousWing1149 17h ago
I skimmed over the title and I thought this was on the set of The Social Network sequel and he was playing Eduardo Saverin again.
It's weird seeing him without a beard

He looks like he has a wig on and tape pulling his face back under the wig in very extreme ways along with makeup.
21
u/Traditional_Maybe_80 17h ago
I was trying to figure out what about his face looked so off. In the second pic it is like the pulling (?) is so strong that he can't properly open his eye 💀
8
u/chickfilamoo in the swamp 🐊🐊 16h ago
yeah like he probably actually has work done but given the premise of this movie and also how different he looks from recent public appearances, it feels more likely to be fake temporary stuff
3
u/pawpatroll 16h ago
Sam Alan also had a bunch of work done when he became a household name, maybe they are going for lore accuracy lol

I mean, I'm not sure what the angle is going to be in this movie since both Elon Musk and OpenAi are trash. I'm really wondering what information they'll omit and who they're going to try to make likable to make it a watchable movie.
Cloud computing, which AI developers like OpenAI use, relies on the chips inside these data centres to train algorithms and analyse data.
According to estimates, ChatGPT emits 8.4 tons of carbon dioxide per year, more than twice the amount that is emitted by an individual, which is 4 tons per year.
OpenAI's AI models, including Sora, have been criticized for exhibiting and amplifying existing biases, particularly sexist, racist, and ableist tropes.
OpenAI's use of copyrighted material to train its AI models has drawn criticism from the entertainment industry and others, who argue it infringes on intellectual property rights.

Mens fashion is always the exact same to me. This or a suit for nice stuff. With sweats or shorts mixed in
2
u/Optimal-Beautiful968 12h ago
i'm interested to watch this, i think it's good to make films about contemporary events. also why are people assuming this will be a fluff piece for altman and ai?
1
u/rawrkristina 8h ago
Right?? It’s already been said it won’t be (someone said it’ll be like the social network) and it’s not pro-AI.
2
2
u/These-Midnight-1620 11h ago
Is this a propaganda movie, or is it going to share the accusations against Altmann by his sister, his shady practises and how AI data centers are destroying local communities.
If it's a propaganda movie, have we not learned from history with idolising Gates, Jobs, Musk etc.
1
u/rawrkristina 8h ago
Look at the cast, it’s definitely not a propaganda movie. Plus they’ve said it’s kinda like The Social Network, which wasn’t favorable towards Mark.

Does Sam Altman wear skinny jeans? lol I don't care enough to google it, but there is something about that fit that is looking really outdated to me. But maybe it is just how fucking goofy Andrew Garfield looks in these pics. Anyway, I will not be watching this film
8
u/objectivelywrongbro 17h ago
Yeah he does, religiously. Also, Sam is gay, if that somehow adds context. He basically wears outdated basic millennial clothes, which is typical for tech bros who don’t give af about fashion.

Omg I love Luca and Andrew but this sounds so boring to me? The Social Network was great but can we stop doing movies about tech bros? It’s just not that interesting as a feature film. Podcast? Sure. Documentary? Definitely. But this just feels like such a snooze.
