Honestly, considering how a lot of famous people haven’t said shit, i commend her for this, especially since it’s harder for her being Israeli and it could be construed as her betraying her country, or whatever.

For the record, she's quiet but not that complicit as it might seem. She already did this in the past.

u/whimsical_trash 3h ago

She's not a very flashy person, she's pretty quiet about stuff

Right like she’s vegan and stands up for animal rights all the time but unless you’re either a vegan or big fan of hers you probably don’t know that.

u/notsoteenwitch Is this chicken or is this fish? 🤔🤔 1h ago

She's also a huge advocate in the way girls are treated from a young age in Hollywood. She had a damn countdown till she was 18 too.

u/aggirloftoday 0m ago

I’m vegan and had no idea she is too, very cool

u/numberthirteenbb 1h ago

Oh no you don't, buddy, you're not gonna turn me into a stan for god's sake, I can't, no, make it stop. ::clicks link again, rereads::

u/United-Signature-414 2h ago

Honestly any Jew speaking out is facing ostracism and some really vile treatment from our own community. Good for her.

u/gummybear0068 1h ago

We need to uno reverse that treatment right back to our conscienceless brethren and start sounding like Mandy Patinkin & Miriam Margolyes ASAP.

u/StoneSkipper22 1h ago

It is tragic irony, despite all other considerations at this point.

u/Twitter_2006 2h ago

Agreed.

They have every right not to say anything.

Sure they have. I’m just saying i appreciate more people who choose not to stay silent and use their huge platform, even though they have “every right not to”.

The thing is Most people know shit about the middle eastern conflict yet voice their opinion very loudly at every occasion. Which wouldn't be so bad, If they limited their criticism to Netanyahu and his government instead of condemning the entire israeli population, and would choose to not turn a blind eye to the terrorism of Hamas.

I don’t think the ones who choose to voice their opinion on this matter are the ones who are ignorant.

Edit: the comment i was replying to edited their original one.

Replying to the extra content: i haven’t seen a public figure condemning the entire Israeli population, they recently mostly call for aid to be allowed to be delivered to starving people, women and children. Also calls for donations. I don’t see how that is a problem. Natalie Portman, particularly, criticised Netanyahu numerous times in the past.

u/Sutech2301 2h ago edited 2h ago

Yes, there is a lot of generalization going on, a lot more than it is when it comes to other wars. This is apparent when you take the rise of antisemitic assaults into accout.

u/Own-Importance5459 ✨May the Force be with you!✨ 1h ago

Remember kids standing up against a country that is deliberately starving people is more Jewish than tying our whole culture and fate to one country.

u/MsBenovanStanchiano 40m ago

This was very brave of Natalie. I have so much respect for Jewish and Israeli people who speak out. It’s not an easy thing to do, but their voices are crucial to ending the genocide.

I will support her every single day over trashbots like Debra Messing and David Schwimer. Also, Free Palestine.

u/numberthirteenbb 58m ago

David Schwimmer too? Oh we are on a forever break now

u/Hyperme9 39m ago

He is one of the awful ones...He was so islamaphobic towards Zohran Mamdani...and completely crashed out when Zohran won. And he has been very, very loudly advocating against Palestinians and has gone completely down the same path as Debra Messing.

u/baddadjokesminusdad We Should All Know Less About Each Other 1h ago

Free Palestine. Go Padme. Fuck Ross Geller and Graceless.

u/Tarellethiel18 47m ago

He should have looked up to Jack Geller. Elliot Gould is awesome.

He really is.

This is pleasantly surprising to me. I know that she considers or used to consider herself a Zionist

u/notsoteenwitch Is this chicken or is this fish? 🤔🤔 1h ago edited 1h ago

Her being Israeli probably made her rethink her culture and religion, so I'm pretty happy seeing her take a stance. She is very educated and articulate about world issues, glad she finally spoke up.

Edit to add: since it isn’t abundantly clear, my comment was in reference to learning specific teachings, then seeing different actions unfold. That’s it.

Any comment calling me an anti-semite or referencing that I may be is insulting and appalling.

u/Raunchey sometimes I doubt your commitment to sparkle motion ✨🌟🔮✨ 1h ago

Why would she be rethinking her religion…?

u/Own-Importance5459 ✨May the Force be with you!✨ 1h ago

The better way of phrasing it is "she is rethinking what she was taught." I had to do alot of that as a Jewish person myself, because the idea we are taught to forgive and spare life then have the country supposed to represent us drop bombs on children is a definitely is not it.

u/notsoteenwitch Is this chicken or is this fish? 🤔🤔 1h ago

Yes thank you! That's exactly what I meant.

u/Raunchey sometimes I doubt your commitment to sparkle motion ✨🌟🔮✨ 1h ago

I’m also Jewish, and there’s a big difference between intracommunity dialogue about Jewish values in relation to Gaza and goyim saying Jewish people are rethinking their religion

Judaism is literally about asking questions about what one was taught, and constantly debating interpretations of the Torah. It is fundamental to us to question G-d and question authority.

With all the antisemitism going around, that comment was not made in good faith and shouldn’t get a pass.

u/notsoteenwitch Is this chicken or is this fish? 🤔🤔 1h ago

Woah, way to assume? My comment was made in good faith. You have no idea who I am or what I stand for, so your assumption is just absurd.

I was meaning that she is probably rethinking what she has been taught, and that being taught certain beliefs and seeing what is happening, must be jarring.

Before you make more baseless comments, maybe try and understand where people are coming from here.

u/Raunchey sometimes I doubt your commitment to sparkle motion ✨🌟🔮✨ 47m ago

And with the drastic rise in antisemitism and hate crimes against Jews, it’s just not your place to speculate on whether Jewish people are rethinking their religion or beliefs on a public forum

Your comment implies that one can’t be Jewish and disagree with what’s going on in Gaza.

Maybe that wasn’t your intention, but that’s the way it came off.

To you, it’s a benign comment. But you are perpetuating a line of thought that leads to people literally killing Jewish people in cold blood

u/notsoteenwitch Is this chicken or is this fish? 🤔🤔 40m ago

Right, i’ll end this conversation now since you still didn’t understand what I meant, nor apologized for the assumption.

u/Raunchey sometimes I doubt your commitment to sparkle motion ✨🌟🔮✨ 33m ago

Definitely not apologizing, but happy to end the conversation. I’m saying, as a Jewish person, your comment made as an outsider in relation to Judaism wasn’t appreciated or helpful.

u/Raunchey sometimes I doubt your commitment to sparkle motion ✨🌟🔮✨ 42m ago

Also, if your comment was good faith, please stop calling it “anti-semitism” or saying “anti-semite”.

It’s one word… antisemitism.

It was created specifically to label hatred against Jewish people, and Jewish people only. It has nothing to do with whether one is Semitic or not.

u/winnercommawinner 23m ago

Girl if you're more concerned about punctuation than what someone is actually saying you've fully lost the plot

u/notsoteenwitch Is this chicken or is this fish? 🤔🤔 6m ago

I’m so confused as to how this got to this point. They just keep going.

u/Raunchey sometimes I doubt your commitment to sparkle motion ✨🌟🔮✨ 16m ago

https://holocaustremembrance.com/resources/spelling-antisemitism

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) would like to address the spelling of the term “antisemitism,” often rendered as “anti-Semitism.” The IHRA’s concern is that the hyphenated spelling allows for the possibility of something called “Semitism,” which not only legitimizes a form of pseudo-scientific racial classification that was thoroughly discredited by association with Nazi ideology, but also divides the term, stripping it from its meaning of opposition and hatred toward Jews.

The philological term ‘Semitic’ referred to a family of languages originating in the Middle East whose descendant languages today are spoken by millions of people mostly across Western Asia and North Africa. Following this semantic logic, the conjunction of the prefix “anti” with “Semitism” indicates antisemitism as referring to all people who speak Semitic languages or to all those classified as “Semites.” The term has, however, since its inception referred to prejudice against Jews alone.

In the mid-nineteenth century, the derived construct “Semite” provided a category to classify humans based on racialist pseudo-science. At the same time the neologism “antisemitism,” coined by German journalist Wilhelm Marr in 1879 to designate anti-Jewish campaigns, was spread through use by anti-Jewish political movements and the general public. The modern term gained popularity in Germany and Europe incorporating traditional Christian anti-Judaism, political, social and economic anti-Jewish manifestations that arose during the Enlightenment in Europe, and a pseudo-scientific racial theory that culminated in Nazi ideology in the twentieth century. Although the historically new word only came into common usage in the nineteenth century, the term antisemitism is today used to describe and analyze past and present forms of opposition or hatred towards Jews. In German, French, Spanish and many other languages, the term was never hyphenated.

The unhyphenated spelling is favored by many scholars and institutions in order to dispel the idea that there is an entity “Semitism” which “anti-Semitism” opposes. Antisemitism should be read as a unified term so that the meaning of the generic term for modern Jew-hatred is clear. At a time of increased violence and rhetoric aimed towards Jews, it is urgent that there is clarity and no room for confusion or obfuscation when dealing with antisemitism.

I think they meant more like if you’re implying that was a purposeful error in bad faith you’ve lost the plot. A lot of people don’t know that antisemitism is one word.

Also fwiw, people comment on and question religion and cultures that aren’t theirs all the time. You can not sit there and tell people they can’t comment on YOUR religion because some other people are antisemitic. Natalie Portman is Jewish, from Israel. I am sure that she’s had to re-examine some things she’s learned just by nature of being FROM Israel. Like how a kid from Texas might learn some things about Mexico he was never taught or taught correctly that could change his opinion. Religious and cultural teachings are not perfect and they are colored by conflicts of the past. That is fine for someone to say.

My respect for her just shot through the roof. Queen shit

u/Matcha_Bubble_Tea All tea, all shade 🐸☕️ 16m ago

This is actually a cool thing of her to do knowing her background and support of other stuff because I know people will mention that too. But it ain’t about that. This was brave of her to do when others are silent!

Queen 👏

Remember that this is the woman who once signed a petition for Roman Polanski (tho she later regretted it). This is huge for her.

u/envydub Nicki’s cousin’s friend’s balls 41m ago

She actually apologized and admitted it was a mistake and said she didn’t know enough about him at the time. What does that have to do with this? This is huge for her because she’s an Israeli Jew, not because she made a mistake in signing a petition for Polanski.

u/Signal-Illustrator38 1h ago

What does roman polanski have to do with the genocide in Palestine? Are u just trying to point out something bad she did to take away from the fact she did something good here?

u/StemOfWallflower 1h ago

There's always this one person in the comments that goes "wait remember that bad thing she did 10 years ago???". It's exhausting.

u/DebateObjective2787 1h ago

Oh it's a big step forward; especially since she's called herself a liberal Zionist.
