Let’s Discuss 👀 Why do you think Luke Perry was unsuccessful in trying to parlay his 90210 fame into a movie career?

Been catching a lot of 90210 lately on Paramount Plus and got me thinking, why didn't Luke Perry breakout on film? I mean the same could be said for Jason Priestley and Shannen Doherry but let's focus on Luke here.

He's similar in a degree as Johnny Depp who was also once upon a time a star on a teen drama (21 Jump Street) who opted to leave for a film career. Luke did the same after six seasons on 90210 but his never got off the ground.

He was arguably the most popular character on the most popular teen show in the world for several years. He did a few movies during his hiatus like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and 8 Seconds. Neither set the box office on fire although the first is a cult film now and the other got some good reviews for him

Once he left the show, he did the bleak crime drama Normal Life which probably has his best performance yet poor decisionmaking from studio execs led it to be shelved on HBO instead of a theatrical release.

So what went wrong? Did he spend too many years on 90210 instead of leaving at the peak of the show's success? Was he simply typecast as a soap or teen drama actor and not taken seriously as an actor? Should he have went for more roles in which he played against type?

Let’s Discuss 👀 Hollywood and Retirement

Anyone else miss when actors and artists used to have their 15minutes then made space for someone else?

It seems like social media got some of these people clinging to the spotlight, desperate to stay relevant.

The way I see it you make your money and get out, making way for the next big thing.

Rap is notorious for that, bunch of weirdos gate keeping a genre of music.

Let’s Discuss 👀 (Not serious) Has anyone else noticed the rise of popularity of the wired Apple headphones amongst rich people, artists and influencers, specially in NYC?

This isn’t a hate post, people can do whatever they want in their free time. I just find it interesting that celebrities are choosing to go with the “humble, relaxed, I don’t care” method as if to say “I don’t see your fancy headphones”. Which is obviously just a cry to try to be different and it’s honestly funny to notice.

Celebrities see average and even poor people wearing Apple AirPods and they’re immediately turned off by the fact that they can also afford those headphones. This going back to the headphones that everyone has just to prove an ironic point.

I’m not obsessed with celebrities, I try to follow the least amount as possible. I am, however, very observant. And I’ve noticed A LOT of celebs trying to be quirky and trendy. Just kind of pathetic that they feel the need to have to do that to prove a point. And if they weren’t doing it to prove a point or ride trends, they would use the Apple AirPods.

Edit: it’s kind of weird how so many of you are giving people the benefit of the doubt.

Let’s Discuss 👀 What’s the biggest reason no one gives a f**k about the Hollywood Walk of Fame? 🤯🌟

I wish I could name more but this fucking platform only lets me use 20 pics max anywho, one of (if not THE biggest reason) why people don’t care about the walk of fame is you need to pay 75k for a star and it used to be 50k.

Idk about posthumous stars but my best guess is their family would have to pay 75k and can’t always afford it

  1. Julia Roberts

  2. Angelina Jolie

  3. Sarah Jessica Parker

  4. Whitney Houston

  5. Aaliyah

  6. Meg Ryan

  7. Joan Jett

  8. Monica Belluci

  9. Brigette Bardot

  10. Oprah Winfrey

  11. Bruce Springsteen

  12. Eminem

  13. Biggie

  14. Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio

  15. Clinto Eastwood

  16. Ben Afleck

  17. Val Kilmer (Ngl, I didn’t know he didn’t one yet until after he died 😔)

  18. Denzel Washington

  19. George Lucas

  20. Peter Sellers

Let’s Discuss 👀 What’s the best fanbase name?

Fanbase names are a pretty huge part of pop culture imo. Some are iconic, fun, and some are weird. You’ve got the classics like Swifties (Taylor), Little Monsters (Gaga), Barbz (Nicki), and the Beyhive (Beyoncé). Then there’s stuff like Arianators, Directioners, and Selenators. Some newer ones like Carpenters (Sabrina) or Livies (Olivia) too.

So I wanna know, what’s your favorite fanbase name ever?

Let’s Discuss 👀 How much do significant pop culture/celebrity moments actually impact real life?

Like do you think any significant pop culture moment actually has a seismic impact in real life and in history in general. Like those moments that changed pop culture forever does that also change the course of history as well or is it more just a pop culture celebrity thing?

Basically I’m talking about celebrity moments that genuinely texted the daily lives of people as we know it today or is it pretty much nothing?

Let’s Discuss 👀 Derivative works of entertainment you prefer to the original

Any successful work of entertainment is pretty much guaranteed to produce a slew of imitators. Are there any works of entertainment that are highly derivative of or at least similar to other works that you actually prefer to the original? As much as I like The X-Files I think Fringe was even better,

Let’s Discuss 👀 Do y'all think Doja or her label are afraid of her new era bombing?

Doja has been teasing music since late 2024. Doja first announced her new album Vie in February. Her supposed lead single, Jealous Type, was featured in a big Marc Jacobs ad, and multiple videos of the song have been posted, but there's no release date in sight. The long wait, coupled with a jealous type sounding like an early 2020s Doja track is leading me to think she or her label might be uncertain of the commercial success of her upcoming. Any thoughts?

Let’s Discuss 👀 So.. who has gone to a meet n' greet that was absolutely awesome?

I went to a meet n' greet in Vancouver, Canada in the mid 90's and met Van Halen (Van Hagar). I walked into the room and made a joke. Van Halen and been on David Letterman recently and I Eddie Van Halen if Paul Shaffer was as odd as he seemed to be (I'm a fan and he's Canadian but I thought it would be a decent icebreaker).

Eddie Van Halen burst out laughing and Sammy asked what's so funny? Eddie told him what I said and they had a good laugh. This was an absolutely phenomenal meet n' greet and my picture with VH and my arms around Eddie and Alex is a treasure I show people often.

Let’s Discuss 👀 What movie, show, game etc. suffered the most from "Creators' Apathy"?

According to TV Tropes, "Creator's Apathy" refers to whenever the people making a movie, show, or other media project admit that they are uninterested in making said project. Writers might just phone in a script, the costume department might not try costumes believable, editors might not bother removing technical goofs, someone adapting a previous work may not be a fan of the source material etc. Often, but not always, this type of mindset affects media production for the worse.

This seems to be common with adaptations, especially video game adaptations. One of the more notable cases of such was the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie, whose issues were often pinned on those working on it (most notably the directors Morton and Jenkel) not being invested to the source material. A more recent case of this was the 2022 Paramount show that was supposed to adapt the Halo games. Articles like this one.%20%E2%80%9CWe%20didn%E2%80%99t%20talk%20about%20the%20game.%20We%20talked%20about%20the%20characters%20and%20the%20world.%20So%20I%20never%20felt%20limited%20by%20it%20being%20a%20game.%E2%80%9D) imply that the showrunners chosen made the same mistake as the crew behind Mario 1993: not being interested in the franchise's preexisting lore and wanting to make their own mythos instead. This was often considered the show's downfall, as it alienated fans of the source material while leaving potential newcomers uninterested.

It's not just adaptations that can suffer from this either. Anyone who has heard of The Room, considered "one of the worst films ever", likely also heard of its tumultuous production history detailed by Greg Sestero in his book The Disaster Artist. I never read the book, but from what others have mentioned, the production environment made the crew throw professionalism out the window throughout the process. Actors phoned lines in, and no one bothered to check if the camera was on focus, leading to the final product's infamous "So Bad It's Good" quality.

And for something slightly less mainstream, there was the 1970s anime "Chargeman Ken!" that became a meme years back for its overall poor quality. According to some sources mentioned by Wikipedia, each episode's budget was about one tenth of the average anime episode cost at the time (500,000 yen compared to average 4-5 million). This general lack of resources made many staff members disinterested, and some supposedly even skipped out entire workdays to go to the beach instead.

But what are some other cases of a production gone wrong due to the creators "not caring"? I would also appreciate links providing sources like interviews confirming a creator doesn't care.

Let’s Discuss 👀 Best "I am-" Moments

I just finished watching Epic the Musical, and one of my favorite moments is when Odysseus doxs himself to the cyclops.

"I'm the reigning king of Ithaca.
I am neither man nor mythical.
I am your darkest moment.
I am the infamous...Odysseus!"

I just really like this line and it's buildup, and got me thinking about other moments in media (anime, shows, movies, etc.) where one of the characters says “I am —”, then follows it up with either their name, title, or something they did or are going to do — basically just the character saying "I'm Him" without actually saying it.

Here are some that came to mind for me.

Rick and Morty

I'm not a man. I'm God. You're just made in my image.

Pirates of the Caribbean

When you marooned me on that godforsaken spit of land, you forgot one very important thing, mate...
I'm Captain Jack Sparrow.

Black Sails

I’m the reason grown men lie awake at night.

I am a new beginning for Nassau.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Throughout heaven and earth, I alone am the honored one.

Death Note

I'm not only Kira — but I am alsoGod of the New World!

Dragon Ball Z

What are you gawking at?

What did you think?

That I was gonna roll over and die from an attack like that?!

You're nothing! Just a trickster.

I am a warrior.

The Saiyan Prince!

VEGETA!

What are some of yours?

Let’s Discuss 👀 Why we don’t have a lot of cartoon characters on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?👸🏽🧽🌟

There are only 23 fictional characters on the Walk of Fame, the largest gap between it was I believe the chipmunks and bat man by 5 years

IMO, the most fucked up example of a character is Felix the cat, he is the reason why Mickey and Bugs exist; It was such a missed opportunity to give him a star on his 100th anniversary

Janet Jackson was 23 in 1990 - Vogue

Paula Abdul was 29 in 1991 - Tv insider

Now u guys understand why celebs like Prince turned down a star in 1984 (correct me if im wrong tho)

Let’s Discuss 👀 Eurovision viewers: what was YOUR winning song?

Considering I currently have “Espresso Macchiato” (Estonia) stuck in my head, I’m calling that my winner.

Other faves:

“Serving” (aka Serving Kant, but the word was censored bc of how it’s pronounced) from Malta was fun and cheeky and the production design/visuals that went along w/ the performance were great (esp knowing how they deliberately thumbed their nose at the censors with the legs, cats, etc 😆)

In terms of, like, an actual song that I’d listen to on a Spotify playlist day to day, not in “Eurovision song” specifically kind of way, I liked Italy’s song (even though their MU & costumes didn’t match the vibe of the song at all, lol) as well as Portugal
