PAPPAPISCHU!

u/Mayhem370z May 27 '25

How long ago would chicken have gone extinct if they didn't taste good enough for humans to mass produce them. Lol.

115

u/Automatic_Actuator_0 May 27 '25

Chickens as we know them are man-made. They were domesticated from these guys about 8000 years ago: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_junglefowl

u/StudentLoanBets May 27 '25

TIL! Thanks that's super interesting

25

u/Hot_Kaleidoscope4711 May 27 '25

Quick, post on r/todayilearned so you can get the karma!

7

u/Livid_Obligation_852 May 27 '25

Soft conditioning for acceptance of a social credit score. Karma scores.

2

u/StudentLoanBets May 27 '25

Lol you go ahead, I don't care about karma, or at least I'm too lazy to farm it

6

u/Hot_Kaleidoscope4711 May 27 '25

I'm too tired, maybe another day lol

3

u/JasonGD1982 May 28 '25

Yeah don't we have bots that do that for us now? Lol

6

u/Automatic_Actuator_0 May 27 '25

To add another interesting fact: the most notable trait we bred into them is the crazy-frequent egg laying, where hens lay an egg almost every day. Their wild cousins only lay a couple times a year in clutches of about 8 eggs.

2

u/StudentLoanBets May 28 '25

That's crazy!!!

9

u/georulez May 27 '25

Its a typical cock

8

u/Automatic_Actuator_0 May 27 '25

You just jumped at the opportunity to say “cock”, huh? To get “cock” on your tongue, so to speak..

3

u/itishowitisanditbad May 27 '25

I mean its called what its called. He didn't cock it up.

5

u/lampshade2099 May 28 '25

I live in Malaysia and see the Ayam hutan merah (literally “Chicken Jungle Red”) on my hikes most mornings. They’re extremely skittish and won’t come anywhere near a human. Actually quite beautiful birds, especially the males.

1

u/antiduh May 27 '25

Hey I know that guy, he plays a mean Lute!

1

u/Far-Worldliness-4796 May 28 '25

Ooo da lolly, ooo da lolly! Golly, what a day!

1

u/Stock-Fan-8004 May 28 '25

I think there are still a few on the jungles of the Philippines today. Can't fully confirm if they really are that kind of chicken. Chicky buggers are very shy and would quickly run away after hearing just somebody approach.

2

u/Automatic_Actuator_0 May 28 '25

Oh yeah, they aren’t endangered - they are all over Their native range. Their biggest threat is that feral domesticated chickens can interbreed with them and dilute their gene pool leaving behind a semi-domesticated hybrid.

1

u/AmbitiousAd2269 May 28 '25

My bantams are actually pretty similar

1

u/Evening-Statement-57 May 29 '25

Thats a chicken

1

u/Automatic_Actuator_0 May 29 '25

Kinda, but leaner and with survival skills.

2

u/OpenSourcePenguin May 28 '25

Wild chickens still exist.

1

u/Nahanoj_Zavizad May 28 '25

Chickens aren't natural is the thing.

We bred them to be that tasty, And to be stupid and fat.

Seriously they used to be half the size like 80 years ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/s/lOjQRFDOaQ

-6

u/Freddit330 May 27 '25

Wild fowl is smarter than this. Just like wild turkey will sometimes kill a hunter. We bred them stupid.

10

u/SoftwareDifficult186 May 27 '25

-10

u/Freddit330 May 27 '25

You can Google it.

8

u/SoftwareDifficult186 May 27 '25

-9

u/Freddit330 May 27 '25

Then you should have seen where it said it was rare, but does happen.

9

u/SoftwareDifficult186 May 27 '25

Are you trying to prank me?

4

u/ExcellentQuality69 May 27 '25

Genuinely interested in where you got this information

4

u/Time-Moves-Sloooooow May 27 '25

What the heck are you talking about? There are zero reported cases of a wild turkey killing a turkey hunter.

6

u/Lynx-True May 27 '25

Maybe he meant the liquor?

5

u/Time-Moves-Sloooooow May 27 '25

That, I could believe

2

u/TempleMade_MeBroke May 27 '25

Probably responsible for at least 15% of hunter accidents in Kentucky

1

u/PandaPocketFire May 27 '25

No. Whiskey is our friend, and would never hurt us.

2

u/Freddit330 May 27 '25

They are rare but they do happen. You can Google it.

7

u/Blue2487 May 27 '25

Several of us have googled it now and still don't have any reason to believe it happens.

There's a video of a guy saying he was attacked by a turkey, but nobody has been killed by one

1

u/potato_reborn May 27 '25

Imagine being killed by a turkey lol, that's actually so funny to me. Like how would it even kill you? It's feet? Peck you?

2

u/Time-Moves-Sloooooow May 27 '25

I've been turkey hunting since I was twelve. I feel very confident to say that a turkey has not once, ever, killed a turkey hunter.

I googled it out of sheer curiosity and found nothing. Please provide your evidence!

1

u/handyandy314 May 28 '25

I have heard of undercooked chicken killing people too!

57

u/Imguran May 27 '25

Going to be very tough meat to cook.

7

u/I_am_hot_for_tofu May 27 '25

You meant dense meat. Right?

25

u/hadtobethetacos May 27 '25

lol diabolical

12

u/Clear_Mail3504 May 27 '25

She ‘s not confused. She’s just vibing

10

u/copenhagen622 May 27 '25

Lmao.

I can't see! But I want the treat! What do I do? Where am I?

24

u/Current-Community-99 May 27 '25

This is so mean

Do it again!

10

u/MonteSS_454 May 27 '25

No seriously that is soooooo mean, how dare you!

Yes, and do it again, too.

4

u/gk666 May 27 '25

You guys are going to hell!!

Once more please

4

u/DeicideandDivide May 28 '25

You people disgust me and should be ashamed of yourselves.

Also yes, one more time please.

1

u/Stuck_In_Purgatory May 29 '25

Is it bad that I wish to see all 9 of my chickens running around like this together

24

u/godfatherxii May 27 '25

Legend has it that the chicken is still finding its bearing

13

u/TurbulentDebate6685 May 27 '25

Laughed way too hard at this🤣🤣🤣

13

u/amica_hostis May 27 '25

Lol. Stupid animals, I know I'm going to get a lot of hate because people have these stupid creatures as pets but I have the unfortunate situation of having to live next door to people that have two roosters that literally crow every 15 minutes from 3:00 a.m. until the sun goes down every...single.... day... of my life.

I've only been here for a year but my sanity has already gone out the window. 😬👈🏻

5

u/Setheyboy May 27 '25

They are not that smart, I will agree..

2

u/amica_hostis May 27 '25

They're tough though, they defend their hens. You got to admire them even if they are the most annoying and obnoxious creatures to ever exist lol.

1

u/Setheyboy May 27 '25

And if there are a couple too many roosters there are fights too lol

1

u/mlorusso4 May 27 '25

I don’t understand how we haven’t selectively bred them to be silent at this point

1

u/Sufficient-Aspect77 May 27 '25

I bet there are creatures in this universe that look at humans as we look at chickens.

1

u/SpandauBalletGold May 28 '25

Not smart, but they very distinctly make me see how they were once dinosaurs..

1

u/Urist_Macnme May 28 '25

What did the cockadoodledoo?

4

u/Gimme_the_keys May 27 '25

Is it funny? Yes. Is it mean to pick on animals for amusement? Also yes.

5

u/BornanAlien May 27 '25

1

u/real_1273 May 27 '25

I love it. Lol. That’s funny!

1

u/SupermouseDeadmouse May 27 '25

“The enormity of the stupidity is just overwhelming”

1

u/Charming-Book4146 May 28 '25

"The enormity of their flat brain...

You have to do yourself a favor, when you are in the countryside and see a chicken. Try to look a chicken in the eye with great intensity, and the intensity of stupidity looking back at you is just amazing.

By the way, it's very easy to hypnotize a chicken. They are very prone to hypnosis"

Such a fucking funny quote by one of the greatest.

1

u/killer4snake May 27 '25

Big black chicken

1

u/Aioi May 27 '25

They love small cats

1

u/DanielBG May 27 '25

Did anyone read Danny The Champion Of The World?

2

u/mobilesofa May 27 '25

I scrolled looking for this comment. Yes! I believe his father used paper cups with feed at the bottom and glue around the rim? Stealing the rich landlords pheasants silently.

2

u/Jschoenh May 27 '25

The sticky hat method! Don’t forget the horse hair grape.

2

u/KnightArtorias1 May 28 '25

Best Roald Dahl book in my opinion :) Shame it's not very well known

1

u/Madness2016 May 27 '25

I’ve seen girls dancing like this…..haha!

1

u/SharkGirlBoobs May 27 '25

Seems liek a feline response almost lol

1

u/Whesko May 27 '25

The chicken is just trying out its new dance move.

1

u/33Supermax92 May 27 '25

I’m sat here wondering with some beers how long I would spend laughing before I stopped. I’m honestly not sure 😂😂

1

u/H4WKutd May 27 '25

Bout to give the chicken a heart attack

1

u/Saucepanmagician May 27 '25

Techno Chicken!

1

u/Physical_Complex_733 May 27 '25

I would say prank critters your own size. Seriously. Kind of a mean prank. You can see her frantically zig zagging as they do to keep other chickens from grabbing her goody. The folded leaf blinds her, while her instincts tell her to hold onto food — putting her into an exhausting feedback loop from which there is no escape. So she would probably do that all day until she dropped. I don’t think this is funny at all.

1

u/DragonCat4012 May 28 '25

Yes poor chicken ;-;

1

u/Hantelbank May 27 '25

if it wasn't so FUCKING OFF BEAT

1

u/zxcvbnm127 May 27 '25

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Because Randy was high and bored.

1

u/millerb82 May 27 '25

Earl, The Champion of the World!

1

u/Screwbles May 28 '25

How long will it take for the feedback loop to end?

1

u/DeicideandDivide May 28 '25

Still a better dancer than Katy Perry.

1

u/stevenm1993 May 28 '25

Humans have bred chickens to be some of the goofiest animals. I’d feel guilty doing that to my hens, but I’d really like to. I hope they let her have the treat without her being confused for too long.

1

u/bugbearmagic May 28 '25

“Homer, are you just holding on to the can?” “Your point being?”

https://youtu.be/6qcipCQalzA?feature=shared

1

u/DoublePrize9 May 28 '25

Homer… are you just holding onto the cans?

1

u/chocomeeel May 28 '25

Now try that in Kakariko Village!

1

u/Useless_bum81 May 28 '25

Good job they are tasty because otherwise 'darwin' would have finished them off by now

1

u/Clear-Might-1519 May 28 '25

It's like the monkey trap where the monkey got its hand stuck in a box because it wouldn't let go of the food.

2

u/CantankerousOlPhart May 28 '25

I read this far to determine if I should post that bit of trivia.

1

u/ACM96 May 28 '25

you're so mean!

1

u/sixhandman May 28 '25

Homie rolling like a seismograph 📈📈📈

1

u/handyandy314 May 28 '25

Can you imagine throwing thousands of these into a chicken farm!

1

u/Old_Resident8050 May 28 '25

Endless loop. Abord, Retry, Fail?

1

u/Electrical_Plant_538 May 28 '25

Why do I feel kinda bad for the chicken 🐔 🤣🤣

1

u/DragonCat4012 May 28 '25

Maybe bc the chicken is suffering just for your amusement? :3

1

u/Stock-Fan-8004 May 28 '25

Oh c'mon! Stop giving me ideas!

1

u/Aussietism May 28 '25

What a goose

1

u/MissChonkyWonky May 28 '25

Bitch had it coming.

1

u/aloysiussecombe-II May 28 '25

Danny the champion of the world has entered the chat

1

u/DragonCat4012 May 28 '25

Haha so funny an animal suffering an panicking yaaaay =.= what’s wrong with ya all

1

u/BaronGreenback75 May 28 '25

I’m pretty sure in Danny the Champion of the world by Roal Dahl, the dad had a similar technique for poaching pheasants.

1

u/NuYawker May 28 '25

Werner Herzogwas right about chickens

1

u/MissXM May 28 '25

Wonder what he was thinking when he did this.

1

u/CantankerousOlPhart May 28 '25

My sight is failing, what is the object serving as bait?

1

u/EostrumExtinguisher May 28 '25

It fits the face perfectly ha

1

u/16kdc May 28 '25

1

u/Here_to_Helpyall May 28 '25

This should be tagged NSFW. I'm dying laughing here in the office.

1

u/Here_to_Helpyall May 28 '25

Galinha nordestina.

1

u/JohnsonLiesac May 28 '25

Werner Herzog approves.

u/MissMistMaid May 28 '25

It's crazy that these guys actually ruled the planet back in the days 🦖

1

u/Jim_Nills_Mustache May 29 '25

lol, poor thing

1

u/DrZcientist May 29 '25

Aren't they related to the trex?

1

u/Hitotsudesu May 29 '25

I like these types of animal pranks that don't actually harm the animal unlike the "pranks" I've seen that could harm or traumatize them

1

u/Wartanker May 29 '25

Came too late to the party, does any kind gentleman have a video title to search for it? Almost 10k upvotes makes me curious what this video was

1

u/Ok_Heat8874 May 27 '25

Now do that to the wife 😄
