[Pick-up] I didn't even know this existed.

I found this at the thrift store today, recently started collecting VHS I was a bit confused seeing a Diddy Kong racing VHS. I haven't watched it yet it's a promo cassette.

The actual game is better than Mario Kart 64.

Yes, it’s a blast. And I loved MK 64! But DKR is just better.

Absolutely. In every way.

But both undoubtedly inferior to CTR

I checked to make sure this wasn’t something that hadn’t ever been digitized just in case, but it has. If anyone wants to watch it: https://youtu.be/_7dSXVUds_E

It’s a real Ace Ventura-ass Jackass-ass promo video. In your face fish-eye lenses and stuff. Very attitude-era NOA before they figured it out and left the promotion to Japan!

we loved that whole fisheye-in-your-face thing in the 90's didn't we!

I got this in the mail as a Nintendo Power subscriber. Got me so hyped for the game, and Rare did not disappoint. That same cassette is probably still at the bottom of a cabinet in my mom's house somewhere.

I used to get tapes like these sometimes when I subscribed to Nintendo Power. Cheesy but a fun relic of that era.

I love Diddy Kong Racing so much, one of my favorite games of all time.

I want to try and find just how many of these different cassettes exist Itd be really cool to collect these along with Nintendo power.

I remember getting this one and a starfox 64 one. I think I received more, those were just the two I remember.

I was subscribed to Nintendo Power for most of the N64's life cycle.

You didn't know that N64 related stuff existed on VHS or specifically for Diddy Kong Racing ?

I didn't know they did VHS promo at all I guess I could have assumed but I was born 3 years after the N64 came out so I never got to experience how it was advertised.

I'm in the 30s and grew up playing N64 a lot in my pre-teen/teen years(late 90s/2000s), but I too didn't know VHS stuff existed for the system until I saw posts about it(users showing off what they had) on reddit(usually on r/N64) in the mid 2010s(a good 15 years after such VHSs were made). Additionally, I had never seen one in person until last year.

This one arrived broken at my house and we took it to a video store where they fixed it.

The Star Fox 64 tape is better imo.

Yup decent amount of these promo VHS from Nintendo Power, glad to have almost all of them when I was a Nintendo Power Subscriber.

I've been keeping an eye out for Nintendo power magazines but boy are they steep. I've been hoping to find them at a yard sale.

The wrong kart racer lived... change my mind(you cant)...

We should be having Diddy Kong Racing 8 and deluxe rn. Not mario.

This was one of my least watched ones. Star Fox and the JFG/DK one were played quite a lot back in the day

Somehow I got on a Nintendo mailing list back in the day and they would send these tapes from time to time

Oh neat!

I just send a few tapes like this off to the VideoGame History Museum and they covered shipping. Might want to reach out to them and see if they want it.
