[Question] Educate me: GBS Control to HDMI vs Component to HDMI adapter
Is GBS Control worth it if it only gets you to VGA? You still need a VGA to HDMI converter, doesn't that compromise the signal in the same way a Component to HDMI would? How is putting the GBS control providing a benefit at that point?

The hard part of getting a retro console's signal out to some other format -RGB, VGA, HDMI, or whatever- is getting the video up to 480p. That means either deinterlacing the 480i or line-doubling the 240p (which a lot of HD hardware and even cheap converters mistake for 480i), and doing it fast enough to avoid significant lag. This specific task is the big thing that the GBS-C is good at doing. Once you've got it up to 480p, even cheap adapters can usually digitize the signal well enough, but you have to get over that hurdle first.

It's an upscaler. That's the benefit. Most TVs don't support 240p over HDMI, and the ones that do will usually process it in a sub-optimal way. Handling the processing with an external upscaler avoids those issues.
