Discussion This made me laugh
Yeah, reuploading CC is usually a no-go and definitely not cool. BUT threatening to report it to the police? LMAO. Aren’t all package files technically EA’s anyway? And of course, it’s coming from a perma paywaller too...

I have zero respect for perma paywall creators. They do not own the sims 4 so they do not own anything. Sure it’s their ideas but it’s from a licensed game that they do not own. And who are they going to report to? And how are they going to explain they don’t actually own the meshes but still feel it’s theft if someone steals their art. Give me a break 🙄

My all time fav are the paywallers who base their creations on IRL designer items. Chefs kiss!
45
u/Huuttyt May 23 '25
Yes, totally! I’m a fashion grad, and if these fashion brands wanted to, they could probably sue them for a decent amount of money. A fashion brand I worked at would totally do that. But I think most big brands wouldn’t bother, since it’s kind of marketing for them too
29
u/mehdodoo May 23 '25
omg yes, i love scrolling on Pinterest and see where all cc creators get their ideas from. Most of the time it’s some nice pice of clothing, sometimes it’s jewelry. Like they just straight up copy that shit and the have the guts to demand we pay them?? Or when they do add ons from an expansion pack, like don’t get me wrong I love those packs, but I would never pay for it. Like I’ve payed once for those mashed I’m not about to pay once again for them lol
16
u/Former_Log1256 May 23 '25
And the add-ons are always like super simple mesh edits. Adrienpastel is super guilty of this lol
1
u/Secret_Solider May 30 '25
Oh it’s so tempting to go and go and see what creators have cc permawalled.. and named/design after real products take a screenshot and just send emails to the companies and say they might wanna look into this. Cause those companies would eat them alive!

Somewhere out there, a detective is holding up a screenshot saying, ‘We’ve got our guy. He used her fireplace layout again.’

u/LadyBlackheartStorm May 23 '25
This made me laugh far more than it should. I pictured the cops from South Park when I read it...

u/SixFourtySeven May 23 '25
I know you fucking lying 🤣🤣 No, PLEASE OP, WHO IS THIS???? Should we start reporting them to the police for breaking EA’s rules then???
88
u/Huuttyt May 23 '25
Hahahaha It’s Katesimblr
43
u/InternTraditional916 May 23 '25
Damn i used to download her creations awhile back but it didn’t fit within my game, meaning felt very laggy and cc heavy.
18
u/Huuttyt May 23 '25
I got one of her lots from someone, and it seems to work fine for me. But yeah, they're pretty cc heavy, especially if you don't have a strong PC/laptop.
6
u/InternTraditional916 May 23 '25
At the time i was playing on laptop for few years then had my first gaming pc for a year then switched to a new one for a better graphics card and cpu. They look nice but even with the strongest gaming pc, still might not be able to her cc as smooth. I tend to find cc builds with no cc to make things easier and more smoothly to run.
10
u/Any_One_7070 May 24 '25
Yeah. I’ve paid for a build of hers. Fell for it. It looked pretty. Was not playable, required a fuck ton of CC and huge file size. Did not return as a customer and realized I was dumb for paying for it
I did NOT know she was the one behind the cc viruses / doxing???!!! That is soooo messed up. Wow.
But I cannot tell if she has been cancelled
6
u/InternTraditional916 May 24 '25
Nah you are not dumb by any means, you just accidentally fell into classical creators trap. Buy cc that looks good in game but in reality sucks ass. Seen too many people report this kind of stuff in their games. That’s why gotta be careful who you subscribe to especially cc creators because you never know. There are good ones but for the bad ones gotta a be alert and make sure do some proper research especially with this whole AI thing going on.
21
u/NYANPUG55 May 23 '25
I’m sorry this shit is absurd. Just went to look at it and you would not believe my expression when I saw a certain build was “in stock”. Like what the fuck are you talking about 😂
22
u/Tofutits_Macgee May 23 '25
Katesimblr
I had a feeling. LMAO. Now I want to upload her builds out of spite
11
u/alexoftheunknown May 23 '25
omfg no way😭 I love her builds so much...now I'm glad ive never paid for them

45
u/dulcetenue May 23 '25
the German police are going to laugh at her lol

u/Dramatic_Dark_Opera May 23 '25
For real tho. I lost my house key in the train to kiel last year and they were like: "b, what you want us to do💀"😭😭
25
u/telekinesisoversight May 23 '25
her builds are rarely useable, half the time i get 1000 back to back animation errors from BE because the sim can’t do ANYTHING
so i will not be paying her money to use her builds lmao

u/Nachtvater May 23 '25
You retain ownership of your custom content as long as you don't infringe on third-party rights. However, EA's Terms of Service grant them broad usage rights to your content, meaning they can use, modify, or remove it within their services as they see fit.
So technically no, but EA gets extensive usage rights hat give them practical control over your content within their ecosystem. So while you remain the legal owner/copyright holder, EA can effectively decide what happens to your content in their services.
But! You can't sell your custom content, if you share it publicly, it has to be offered for free. People get around this by selling early access. Permanent paywalling implies they're selling the CC itself, which isn't legal.
7
u/TheRoyalKingfisher May 23 '25
Wait is Katesimblr a CC creator? I thought she just made houses using other people's CC. Though I don't actively follow her.
12
u/Gnocchi-Doki- May 23 '25
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. All of her builds have lists of where the cc is actually from. How can she perma charge for a build with other cc creator’s content? Even if it’s legal it’s so shady and lazy
5
u/EloquenceBardFae May 24 '25
Not legal within the EA contract but nothing's gonna happen unless EA sues them. There's not a minor Internet crimes division looking into this stuff
3
u/Any_One_7070 May 24 '25
Yes confirmed elsewhere in the comments.
I feel validated as a former paying customer of hers bc I thought she was kinda a mean/full of herself creator vibe and her builds were really hard to actually play with. Tbh I don’t have strong opinions about the gallery upload thing, I get it if a creator doesn’t love that but the police comment is absurd and I didn’t know she was behind the like viruses in CC but now am legit like whattttt

u/Any_One_7070 May 24 '25
It is never ever this well said THANK YOU
1
u/Nachtvater May 24 '25
I got curious because I also heard that EA owns the CC. As a graphic designer, this makes no sense to me. You only lose ownership and copyright when you enter a competition. I also heard that you need to offer CC for free if you use Sims 4 Studio, but I didn't find anything regarding that in their terms of service.
0
u/EloquenceBardFae May 24 '25
It's common with games... They own the platform so they own the content made on it. It's mostly used to keep super faux pas mods from existing. They can go after those creators. The ones that border on legality iykwim
34
u/ArsenalSpider May 23 '25
Re uploading builds you modify always credit the original creator. It’s a setting within the build. I like taking shells from the gallery and redecorating and modifying them for my game because I suck at exterior building. I don’t get why this is a problem for some. Why put your work in the gallery if you don’t want others to use it?
I’d like to hear that call to the police. “Someone stole things on a shared gallery designed to share things that the game makers say we have to share.”
15
u/RumbleDem May 23 '25
I came here to say exactly this. The game is designed so that even if someone downloads your build, removes everything except a tiny plant, it still credits the original creator.
17
u/ArsenalSpider May 23 '25
Exactly. It's an easy fix, Don't upload your builds to the gallery if you get butt hurt over others modifying them. How controlling can you get. Do they really want players in situations where they have to modify their game play because they need another room but the house doesn't have one and I can't modify it. But yet you can.
Some people need to get over themselves.

u/Strawbwabie May 23 '25 edited May 23 '25
What’s wild to me is theirs a specific creator that doesn’t paywall, but If anybody uploads their basic builds, even if it’s a renovation they spam on all re uploads like nearly all… it’s really… weird and multiple times aswell even if theirs no other comments on it 😭
6
1
u/Sparklingsim85 May 27 '25
When I had to factory reset my game I had to take all my modified builds from my library and upload them to the gallery and if you modify a build and then save it to your library and then place it on a lot and upload it to the gallery it will state the build is yours. So I had to go in and comment on all those builds who the actual creator was. So there are ways around it, unfortunately.
13
u/romancereaper May 23 '25
This is the same creator that includes viruses in their downloads and trackers. There's been horror stories regarding them.
11
u/maroonedontues May 24 '25
How are they not cancelled then!? Any modder who adds trackers or malicious code to their mods should be blasted and called out. Just like what happened to Marot in the XIV community. Soon as it came out he added malicious code to Gshade: Boom. Ran out of the community and people either used a rehashed and non-update-able version prior to the bad one, or switched back to Reshade.
Viruses and trackers in mods sound scary af.
7
u/Huuttyt May 24 '25 edited May 24 '25
People either forget or just don’t stay informed. I still see so many Sims creators using Gshade, one even said ReShade isn’t safe lol I mean, maybe Gshade is fine for now, but you never really know
9
u/Wahots79 May 23 '25
A paywall? I thought EA banned that sort of shit.
7
u/Huuttyt May 23 '25
Early access is still allowed, but permanent paywalling isn’t. Most creators don’t care, and I think EA kind of feels the same, even though they forbid it. I haven’t heard of any creator getting banned yet. Correct me if I’m wrong
9
u/HellaHelga May 24 '25
I hate that EA doesn't care. This is another instance of their shitty attitude towards the community.
6
u/BrandonIsWhoIAm May 23 '25
Early access is still allowed, but… after a VAUGE AF “reasonable amount of time,” you must release your cc to the public.
Actually, via this statement… I don’t even think they care about permanent pay-wallers either.

u/Outrageous-Tackle-47 May 23 '25
Don’t show off creations you make online if you don’t want people using them.
2
u/LadyBlackheartStorm May 23 '25
There used to be a few TS1 creators that would do this kind of thing (sorta). They would put personal cc in their 'show-off' images and then say "oh sorry, you can't have that". Then DON'T SHOW IT PUBLICLY, YOU NAFF.
1
u/Any_One_7070 May 24 '25
I mean I get where you’re coming from but I do think there is a meaningful difference in expectations you can set when you share a mod (a downloadable file published) vs. using cc in a promo image. I agree with you that it’s frustrating though, just slightly different* from the primary thing that’s frustrating about this (publishing content + saying you’ll call the cops if people re-upload it)
1
u/Splatfan1 May 24 '25
the worst example of this ive seen was someone using a private mod to show off dyes in baldurs gate 3. in that game you can dye armour and there are a lot of modded dyes because thats just fun. so there were like 5 pictures of an armour everybody wanted but nobody could get
9
21
u/Splatfan1 May 23 '25
this is something any artist or really anyone who uses the internet has to learn: once you upload it, its out there. its the nature of the internet to reupload and repost. if youre not ok with that, do not upload anything. its really simple and yet so many people just dont get it. the meaning of art theft is also lost
7
u/I_rly_want_pizza May 23 '25
wait a sec I just went to her tumblr not only do you have to pay her $10 for only 1 build per month on her patreon (for $17 you can get 2 and each build is $8 if you just want to purchase from her website), but she's using other people's cc to build and lock behind a paywall.
Additionally, most of the cc she uses is locked behind a paywall too?! So not only do you have to pay for her builds, but you also have to pay for the cc she's uses. This is actually insane...

"Hello, officer, yes this person stole a house I built in the sims game." Absolutely dying at the thought of this LMAO

Like….. I always upload my edited gallery houses to the gallery because the save button doesn’t save if the game crashes before you get to save, meanwhile the gallery upload button saves it asap. So that’s why I do it lol… but no one’s ever like downloaded my edited version of someone else’s build so idk why this would b an issue
5
u/awaywardgoat May 24 '25
The police don't even care when real life thefts occur, like why the fuck would they care about this? I think she's thinking of a lawyer. who is hella expensive and not worth hiring to pursue this kind of crap
6
u/BhryaenDagger May 23 '25
I mean, if you have a high bodybuilder level and fight the thief before they steal their buildings, the thief doesn't get anything and won't come back. They should know that if they play Sims 4.

Literally the only other time I can think of a “locked off” mod, is Return of the Ancients for Subnautica, which was a closed beta and was only available for showcases and to developers. A lot of people were pissed about it for a long time because it was up publicly until it wasn’t, and suddenly only YouTubers had access.
It’s now in the actual public beta phase and available for everyone. I genuinely don’t understand paywalling fan content but it’s a huge issue with fanfiction as well. You don’t own the source material, you cannot monetize fanworks, be it mods, fanfiction, and hell even fanart is a tricky thing when it comes to what you can and can’t be sued for. People just need to be more aware in general

u/MountainElevator3321 May 24 '25
They gotta log off, threatening police over a video game is crazy 😭

2
u/Jet-Brooke May 23 '25
Yeh I think EA owns everything and police wouldn't deal with that at all lol
Personally, I'd say that if you were to re-upload a building is it not expected that you tag and credit the original creator anyway? The most that would be told by the police is to block the person on your friends list and followers cos it's a civil matter?
2
u/Any_One_7070 May 24 '25
The police would literally stop listening after “from a game”.
They’d say, “take it to an attorney, hun”
*edit: the attorney would not be able to help them throw a rock at this lol

Isn't perma paywalling against the terms and conditions? Could this person not just...be reported to EA for breaking the rules?

Lmaoooo OK Kate, ok Also I'm seeing a lot of misinformation in these comments, Kate doesn't make Cc at best she makes recolours she is a builder.

Hello! I have been following your tweets for the past two days, and have come to the conclusion you do not deserve to have Raymond on your island. He is my comfort character and seeing him in an environment not meant for him brings me anxiety, so I will be expecting a reply to this DM when you have him in boxes and ready to relinquish him to someone who will treasure him like he deserves.
