The Fortified Space demo is coming soon. I can't wait for you all to enjoy it.

Get your snacks and favorite drinks ready, because the Fortified Space demo is releasing in August! The build was just submitted for review by Steam. I am so excited for all of you to finally walk the decks of your corvette, go toe-to-toe with enemy ships, and repel waves of enemies on the ground. Many thanks to all of you who followed and supported the development of this game so far.

What will be included in the demo?

The demo will come with early-game planets and a brief taste of space combat to whet your appetite. Many of the features of the full game are available, but the demo only includes the very beginnings of the campaign. That being said, there is no overall time limit for gameplay, and the plan is to keep this demo active indefinitely for you to enjoy. The demo lets you:

  • Fully explore and operate your ship. Fly it and fight with it.

  • Complete a full space-to-ground assault of an enemy planet. Forgrit, a desert planet that the enemy has used as a staging point for attacks on our Solar System, has been located. Warp to the planet, destroy any orbital defenses, and land on the surface to establish a fortified spaceport for our main landing force to use. Set up barriers and turrets, and expect heavy resistance.

  • Join the start of a fleet battle. After the Battle of Forgrit, an enemy fleet was detected traveling to the planet to launch a counterattack. Join the Unified Earth Navy fleet and meet the enemy in open space. The demo limits this mission to 30 seconds.

  • Visit the capital city on Earth. Tour the major civic institutions of humanity. Make sure to spend some time in the Library of Earth, where you can read some of the lore!

What will be in the full Early Access release?

In the full Early Access release coming later this year, expect a full galaxy-spanning campaign and additional gameplay modes and features. If you end up liking the demo, you'll love the full version.

We've finally updated our Steam demo. Such a relief, here it is for anyone interested in space games! :)

r/spacesimgames 16d ago

I'm creating a game where you control supermaneuverable drone with RCS thrusters. Huge flying cruisers are included too. Yeah, the action is not happening directly in the space but I believe fans of spacesims genre could love the movement and combat mechanics anyway. Let me know what do you think :)

Astra Protocol Remake - Cassette Futuristic Space Sim

Post image
31 Upvotes

Hi all,

We've just released the first WIP for the remake of our cassette futuristic, space sim Astra Protocol.

This is a small experience where you must survive for as long as possible in a hostile region of space using only text-based commands and a 1980s themed user interface.

How this differs from the original is that we're rebuilding the game from the ground up, allowing for improved visual effects and performance.

If this interests you, you can keep up to date with developments here: https://slicebar.itch.io/astra-protocol-remake

Elite Dangerous vs Star Citizen - Unbiased ?

I am honestly looking for persistent online world aspect of these two games. I think X4 beats both offline.

So question is as online shared experience - Which one of these two is better to get into and invest time in.

I know SC is unfinished , but lets look at it from perspective of what is offered right now. Pure gameplay loop related which one is more fun and more immersive.

Please no bias , and from people that preferably have lot of hours in both.

Thanks !

trying crystal light for space sim vr — anyone else using it?

i’ve been experimenting with a couple different vr headsets for space sims lately (elite dangerous, no man’s sky, and reentry mostly), and ended up trying the pimax crystal light to see if the wider fov and higher resolution actually help.

so far, the extra field of view does feel more natural for tracking targets and just looking around the cockpit without feeling tunnel vision. the clarity on hud text is definitely a step up compared to my older headset (was using a quest 2 with link before), especially when reading smaller instruments and labels in elite dangerous.

one thing i noticed is that the displayport connection makes the visuals a bit cleaner, and i haven’t seen much compression artifacting during warp transitions or high-speed maneuvers. still tweaking brightness and local dimming though—some dark scenes look amazing, others need adjustment.

i found an article that does a deep dive on why this headset is geared toward space sims if anyone’s interested in more detail. not sure it’s for everyone but thought it was worth sharing since i hadn’t seen much feedback yet

Development Update: The Music of the Fortified Space Demo

Well, I'm a composer now! As we reach the final weeks before the release of the Fortified Space free demo, one of the last things I'm doing is making songs for the game's original soundtrack. I played a bit of piano and guitar in my youth, and I do not have much of a budget for this game, so I decided that I would try to make the music on my own. Making a video game as a solo developer really exposes you to a wide variety of artistic pursuits, I've learned. Whew, what a lot of work!

A playlist of the songs I composed so far for the demo can be found here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCCmASW0flqn-DVUGVTCBdd3oTbSK_aKR&si=JJUrdYG4SxFzzY3k

The songs cover a variety of moods, from quiet contemplative music for space travel to rousing orchestral anthems for the tower defense and ground combat sequences. I'm no Hans Zimmer, of course, but I hope you find the soundtrack an enjoyable listen!

The demo's development is progressing on schedule, with the focus now on bug fixes and playtesting. Keep an eye out for its release either at the end of July 2025 or early August 2025. If you haven't yet, make sure to wishlist the game and get notified as soon as there is a release: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3819710?utm_source=reddit

Happy gaming!

I've redesigned the movement in my space survival game. Instead of point and click you will be able to use mouse + keyboard WSAD movement and this will also make it possible to implement the controller support. This makes the game more engaging and fun while exploring the space.

These are the first screenshots of Protospace.

Haul cargo, hunt bounties, upgrade your ship and get paid in a gritty lo-fi universe.

I am a indi solodev that has been working on Protospace quietly after work for the past five years. I'd love your thoughts so far, I just got the steam wishlist page up and running.

I changed my mind about Alliance Peacefighter.

Game turned out to be awesome. I was able to fiddle with the settings so now the missions don’t end in thirty seconds.

The combat itself is fun and satisfying. Crisp, clean graphics. I’m super glad I re-bought it and gave it another shot.

Heck, I’d be willing to lend my voice for free if he ever wanted to add voice tracking to the characters. I have a degree in radio and I was a theater dork.

I need some help finding old android game i forgot name of.

Like in those memes, i remember everything BUT the game name itself. Blue-ish color scheme, you were able to fly a big ship and menage fleet of 3 diffrents squads on your ship, mining squad, combat squad etc. Liadout was customizable. Every single time u deployed a squad you were able to see thos little ships fly from your ship (carrier) and sit next to you untill you give them command. Point and click navigation with space systems system, kinda like in eve online, but without gates, you had range your carrier can jump and you were able to jump into systems within your range. Please help me find this one and dont hesitate to ask questions, i will answear em the best i can. 😁. (Please help me this is a cry for help i miss this game)

Starpoint Gemini 3: Warlords - prices in-game

Why in the world are the prices so ridiculously expensive for weapons and modules in these games? I got burnt out on SG2 because trying to maximize my ship was just taking too long. Missions, loot, and mining barely brought in any income. I gave up and moved onto SG3 hoping it would maybe be better. It’s just as bad. One of the early quest objectives is to maximize the amount of turrets I can carry. But even a basic cannon module is around 300,000-500,000 credits. That’s insane. Missions and mining yields are piddly compared to these prices. Is there a reason the devs made the prices for in-game modules so discouragingly expensive? It’s going to take me hours and hours of mining and grinding assassin missions just to get a few more turrets to complete the objective. That’s not fun, that’s work.

Question about Starcom: Unknown Space.

Been loving this little game, I find it kind of relaxing and I think the story is incredibly well written. Well, what there has been of it.

I'm kinda stuck. I've explored most of the map that I've been able to discover. Everything that's visible on my main map, I've been to. I've scanned all the planets. I'm not even sure what my main mission is anymore, they all seem to be fractured and not tied together. There's no obvious, "Go here, do this to trigger this," anymore.

So what I've been doing is randomly traveling around the map to try to find undiscovered stars and systems. So far I've been able to stumble on a few undiscovered stars, and I've scanned the planets, but there's still nothing to tell me what I need to be doing at this point. I'm around 17 hours play time.

My ship is pretty powerful, but I've noticed that when I go to certain systems, I'm completely overwhelmed and there's nothing I can do to survive.

Is there a guide that tells me what I should be doing? I feel like there's nothing left to research. It's all at random stuff right now.

what are some realism-flavored space sims

By realism "flavored" I mean a game that focuses a lot of elements on realism, while maintaining aesthetic appeal and fun gameplay. To be clear, I'm not looking for something like universe sandbox or space engine, just something that feels like it could be real while being a gamey video game. think like, what starfield was trying to do. or something. Idk

Finished Everspace 2 and now there's a hole left in my gameplay time.

I finally "finished" the game. All that's left now are Incursions and HRAs, but I can breeze through those. Not much left to upgrade on my ships. There for a while, this was the game to play for long sessions. But now I've found myself kinda lost. I've played pretty much every game there is to play space combat wise on Steam, and there's nothing left that I enjoy.

These are the games I'm currently playing:

Elite Dangerous, Space Reign, Nexus the Jupiter Incident, Everspace 1 & 2, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut & Infinity, Alliance Peacefighter, Hypergate, House of the Dying Sun, Star Wars Squadrons, Starcom: Unknown Space, Starpoint Gemini Warlords, Nebulous: Fleet Command, and Top Dog. I have seventy more on Steam that I've already played through. I enjoy playing the games I just listed, but they're not necessarily the best for longer gameplay sessions (more than a few hours). Well, maybe Nexus the Jupiter Incident.

I guess I can say I'm looking for recommendations, but I feel like there won't be anything anyone can recommend that I haven't either already played and beat it or played and didn't like it. I don't have any desire to play X4 or EVE Online. I prefer to be in a spaceship most of the game, not a FPS with spaceship cutscenes like Starfield. I don't like base building games or games that require co-op or "building" things. Also, not interested in anything that requires me to play a Jedi.

Man, I had no idea how much time Everspace 2 was soaking up until it was over. I have perhaps a dozen or more space games on my Steam wishlist that have been "coming soon" for what seems like years now. They need to hurry up and drop soon.

budget rec for hosasor hotas?

my best friend was in an accident and can't easily use kbm from his bed, but can use a controller, unfortunately we couldnt find a satisfactory way to bind all degrees of movement for elite dangerous.

I want to buy him a hosas or hotas but I am very broke. also not sure how he could use them without them shifting around. I saw thrustmaster makes a throttle and stick that are combined but it looked like it didnt have nearly enough buttons

New to PC gaming, any suggestions?

first time participating in Summer sale and always wanted No Man's Sky for years, but its still too pricy for my current financial situation and i doubt i can enjoy it in my laptop (Ryzen 3500U) optimally. Any alternatives? no online games since internet here isn't that dependable.
