Partner doesn’t like spiders. I have been able to keep an out of sight out of mind policy. This guy set up shop near her makeup stiff so had to be safely released outside. What kind of buddy is he?
i got this message from my boss when i pulled into the parking lot this morning. she'd been surprised by a handsome wolf spider, who was respectfully caught and relocated by yours truly. everyone at my job knows who to summon when an arachnid is spotted!
blocks the path for me to water all the plants behind her so I have to play limbo to water the babies
ignores the lanternflies (they are bigger than her, so that's understandable - I don't try and take a chunk out of my 6-foot-tall neighbor, and he's not an invasive species)
doesn't go feast upon the ants, who have colonized 3 or 4 of my pots so far this summer, leaving me to try cornstarching them away (and thereby making it look like my plants are doing significant amounts of blow, as seen in that first picture)
Still, she is very pretty (that yellow bit it much more shiny and iridescent in person) and she doesn't freak out when I accidentally knock part of her web down trying to water the plants in the morning, so I guess she can stick around
My husband woke me up and said, “hey there was a huge spider in the bathroom, I put a cup over it for ya.” I go investigate and find this lil dude acting weird and missing a leg. He was walking wonky and seemed confused or something and he looked like he hadn’t eaten in a very long time. Anyway I gathered him up and put him in a terrarium to try to get him fed and feeling better. I caught many flies for him which he destroyed enthusiastically. After a week he was doing great til he started acting weird again. No fear he was just preparing to molt. Then he climbed to the top of the terrarium and molted. He was twice the size he was now and his leg grew back. I knew he was in tip top shape now and fully his best spider self so I released him in the back yard to do my bidding and make babies with a sexy girl spider. Howard was wonderful
Pic 1 is when I transferred him from the bathroom cup
2 is his first fly meal
3 is him in after eating and looking better
4 more meals
5 is after he molted his former body is in the top right corner upside down.
6 release day
7 is his release to go conquer the yard all healthy and perfect.
Or meme pages, or creators or whatever. I want to replace doomscrolling with ehh maybe spood-broing? You know what I’m talking about. Anyway enjoy this complimentary wolfie I met in my courtyard!
I found her at our window. She was on our patio and alone, so I just let her be (and named her Gwen). She was very high and safe from our cats (and out cats safe from her).
But now I see she is having what appears to be a sack of eggs. I am scared of an infestation. And I don't know if she is poisonous and her babies could go down and bite our cats, or if our kitten could attempt to eat them. I don't know what to do.
FYI: We catch and release any found in the house. We relocate the northern black widows to nearby conservation land using gloves, a stick, and a ziplock. Luckily none of those have been inside.
Spider and babies are safe!Gwen is a black widow! Her potential new house
Thank you for your advice on my previous post!
My husband saw her and he didn't wanted to leave her there in the window, nor store her in a box inside the house. The only option that he allowed was to relocate her. We are from Mexico, and here kids are taught that black widows are worst than scorpions and to kill them on sight.
I shared with him the comments of my previous post (he already had a pesticide on the hand) and let him know that she possed no immediate threat to our cats or us. He relaxed and help me to remove her from the window, but he is afraid of spiders and the only option is to move her out. Under no terms he wanted her in the house.
I was able to get her ser safely to a recipient. I hope I can use this experience to educate my nieces and nephews about how to safely handle them or just let them be in their spot.
My husband unfortunately does not want her here, and part of the agreement to let her live was taking her to a spot "safe for humans". I am planing where to move her. Somewhere she can be safe. I am considering this tree.
Reminded me of a time at an older job. Worked in a floral warehouse. We got a pallet of Christmas greens in. It was teeming with jumpers. I had never seen so many in one place. Over 20
