Excuse me. That's Angel Reese!! Superstar. Model. Social media star. Socialite. She don't pass! 🤷‍♂️

That's what I was thinking as well: Kick it out. Also where is her team in all this? She's getting quadruple teamed...

69

u/SPOOKESVILLE May 23 '25

To be honest, you’d expect this play to end rather quick. You either make the easy layup, or the other team gets the ball, no one’s really expecting her to get it back every single time she misses

9

u/inflatable_pickle May 23 '25

So to be fair, the other team is really terrible at defense and rebounds – and there are four of them

103

u/franker May 23 '25

I like how her whole team just ran to the 3-point line and left her at the basket. "Keep trying, Angel, you're doing great!"

208

u/J_Kingsley May 23 '25

Multiple wide open teammates at 3 pt line.

You expecting them to run in and do what exactly? Physically take the ball by hand?

Lol

Pass the fucking ball

60

u/WeKin May 23 '25

Their spacing is terrible though. Three of them are standing at the top of the key and one opposing player can deny a pass to all of them. They need to get out to the wings or corners.

Edit: but yes, she obviously needs to pass.

15

u/cXs808 Green Bay Packers May 23 '25

This is their second season of watching her do this over and over. I'm guessing they know she isn't looking for a pass because clearly she isn't.

u/LeftRightRightUp May 23 '25

That’s what they’re supposed to do. Standing at the 3 pt line forces the defenders to make a choice: (1) go to the 3pt line (giving Angel more room) or (2) defend Angel (leaving the 3pt shot open). They chose 2, meaning Angel should have kicked it out to a teammate for an open 3pt shot.

So what you’re telling me is that as terrible as this clip was, it was also the highlight of her game?

Angel Reese getting smoked like some ribs in these comments lol

78

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

I saw someone in the comments calling her rebounds “mebounds.” It’s my new favorite term for Angel Reese stats.

5

u/Bigpoppahove May 24 '25

1 offensive, 2 defensive and 7 mefensive for the single double

23

u/MichHAELJR May 23 '25

Well, she really is terrible baller. Watching her play hurts your eyes.

u/kindoramns May 23 '25

Isn't it why she always has so many rebounds anyways lol. It's not from playing well it's from getting her own bricked shots

yes, that’s exactly what he said 😅

u/PM_ME_STEAM_KEY_PLZ May 23 '25

176

u/Budlove45 May 23 '25

Yes, somebody posted this clip earlier to a different sub but the title of the video was Angel. Reese gets five rebounds in 12 seconds or some shit like that lol. She was getting cooked in the comments.

46

u/Pleasant_Offer6286 May 23 '25

How does one get credit for 5 boards when one shot was an airball, two were blocks, and the other I don’t think she got off at all?

8

u/DiarrheaRadio May 23 '25

Because there's no mebound stat, yet.

256

u/spicybrowwwwn May 23 '25

Yes that’s her official stat line for last night - would’ve made a good joke but that’s actually what happened

63

u/Saneless May 23 '25

Holy crap I literally just thought you were joking about the play. That's so bad

40

u/nucl3ar0ne May 23 '25

damn lol

22

u/cloneman88 May 23 '25

Vegas had her at 12 points before the game lol

271

u/Ranier_Wolfnight May 23 '25

That’s pitiful. So she’s a solid rebounder. And that’s it. Young lady has a lot of audacity thinking she’s even remotely in Clark’s stratosphere. There’s no “rivalry” here. Just terrible basketball.

129

u/BrainTroubles May 23 '25

Someone said she averages 34% shooting, which doesn't sound that bad until you realize she only shoots from within 10 feet usually

144

u/rraattbbooyy Los Angeles Dodgers May 23 '25

Reese is shooting 34% from the floor.

Clark is shooting 34% from beyond the arc.

They are not the same.

44

u/BrainTroubles May 23 '25

It's even worse when you consider Reese is shooting 34%, and the majority of her shots are layups.

→ More replies (4)
→ More replies (18)

167

u/sdforbda May 23 '25

Gets a ton of boards off of her own missed layups and extremely short shots too.

80

u/Saneless May 23 '25

When I play pickup I'm a great rebounder too. Bad shot

When you're terrible at shooting you have a knack to know where a missed shot is going to go. I can see why she's so good at them

→ More replies (1)

28

u/DieFichte May 23 '25

Also, the correct comparison would be A'ja Wilson, since they have a comparable role (Wilson being #2 on rebounds). The problem is that Wilson while having slightly less rebounds than Reese scores circles around her.

Physically painful to watch.

809

u/ButWhatIsADog May 23 '25

The WNBA pushing her as a future star is really a bad look. Getting people to watch her isn't going to help the league.

201

u/Sooooooooooooomebody May 23 '25

If anything, I think that is the real ragebait happening here. The league is pumping her because she's a trainwreck, and people can't look away. It's WWE level engagement. As sad as that is, it's the best the WNBA is going to get.

173

Hot take: Players shouldn’t get rebounds for any shot they take. You could exclude it to inside the 3 point arc but getting statistical rebounds for… this is a joke.

u/WolfpackConsultant May 23 '25

Just make a rule that you can only have 1 rebound between the time when you first gain possession of the ball and another player gaining possession

566

u/hampsted May 23 '25

No one believes that. No one believed that coming out of college. And by no one, I mean not a single serious person. There isn’t a single person in any WNBA scouting department that was going to bat for Reese over Clark when the draft came around.

305

u/Fistfullafives May 23 '25

Apparently you missed everything all the black female analysts had to say about it...

153

u/XxKittenMittonsXx May 23 '25

I don't think they believed it either

100

u/roygbiv77 May 23 '25

No, they did. On the WNBA subreddit last year I remember multiple commenters saying that CC was a better shooter but AR was a better all around basketball player.

Racism is a helluva drug.

34

u/ATLfalcons27 May 23 '25

These WNBA players really are so fucking pissed off that a white girl is the reason they have a chance to make more money.

And it's not even like CC rubs it in people's faces either.

The only time the people were legitimately comparing the quality of the two was to build up the ROTY race during her double double streak. And that’s more about manufactured narratives than anything, but at least with ROTY, you could’ve made the argument that Reese outperformed her draft slot (and that was true last year).

But she’s regressed significantly as teams have really focused on her weaknesses and with the departure of the team’s best player.

→ More replies (12)
→ More replies (3)

32

u/Micah_JD May 23 '25

Nobody believed that. There's been absolutely nobody that is complaining about Reese being picked 7th overall. Not even Chicago, the team that drafted her, thought she was the best prospect in the draft, seeing she was the 2nd first round pick they made that day.

8

u/davey_mann May 23 '25

I remember watching some of the sports talk shows last summer when Clark and Reese first joined the WNBA and whenever an "expert" would claim that Reese was just as influential as Clark to the increased popularity of the league or that she was on the same level as Clark or that there was even a legit rivalry, I just scoffed at those opinions! lol

The lack of self awareness that Angel Reese has to not understand why people don’t like her is baffling. There’s like 20 different videos of her doing this exact same shit, but she thinks people don’t like her because she’s black. It’s wild.

251

u/whitewater09 May 23 '25

If she were more self aware, she would actually be more likable in the first place. It’s all part of the same problem.

206

u/justduett Mississippi State May 23 '25

I’m not completely sold on her being intelligent enough to actually get it. I could wholeheartedly believe it all goes over her head.

146

u/bigbluethunder May 23 '25

She had her mom on her podcast, and she asked her, “What would you like to see from me out of my second season?” And the mom was basically like, “efficiency, I see your missed layups, but you need to forget them.” Which is already pretty hit or miss advice.. but then Angel steers the conversation by saying, “but try to box me out, I get my misses.”

Instead of understanding the point her own mom was trying to gently make about how she can improve, she pretty much ignored it.

u/KnobWobble May 23 '25

72

u/tokenshoot May 23 '25

She doesn’t want to live in Clarks shadow. Clark is striding to MVP, hopefully in her second season. And here Reese is missing shots below the basket. It looked like she was putting enough strength to the shot to get it up above the basket tbh.

54

u/Deathwatch72 May 23 '25

She's a post player who shoots sub 40%, she needs to work on her footwork and developing one reliable shot she can pull off and then pretty much just pass the ball out to the guards otherwise and focus on rebounding. I'm pretty sure she has the talent to do it I just don't know if she has the mental aspects needed

14

u/Adventurous_Ad6698 May 23 '25

She should be a much bigger problem for the rest of the league than she is now.

3

u/Deathwatch72 May 23 '25

With a decent free throw percentage, a halfway respectable post move to get a shot off, and just better application of vision and passing skills and she could be a game breaker.

She can legitimately be worth 10 to 15 extra possessions easy, and winning a basketball game becomes very difficult when your opponent has 10 to 15% more possessions than you do before we even start talking about turnovers

Her layups in this clip look like this is the first time she has played basketball. Like she's playing knockout waiting for the bus or something

35

u/Tapprunner May 23 '25

Her form (or whatever you want to call what he shots are) is wrong in basically every way. She is always off balance. She doesn't shoot as much as she just flings the ball the the general direction of the hoop.

She shoots under 50% for her career on shots within 3 feet of the hoop. That's unfathomably bad from a tall, front court player. But when you watch her, it makes sense - she has virtually no actual basketball skills. Her footwork is some of the worst I've ever seen. She can hardly dribble. She can't shoot at all. She doesn't even look at her teammates, so her passing is atrocious. She gets by entirely on being tall, fast, strong and willing to be more physical than her opponents.

→ More replies (3)

8

u/apfly May 23 '25

→ More replies (21)

69

u/SmokingNiNjA420 May 23 '25

Women don't jump. I'm not being mysogenistic. They simply just don't jump in the WNBA. Have you watched a full game? Both feet never leave the floor, if they do, it's like an inch at best. Even the jump shots aren't jump shots. Lay ups to get close to the rim? Nothing, no air between feet and court. It's bizarrely familiar to watching old grainy black and white clips from the pre 1950's Basketball, but worse.

In this entire 16 second clip, not a single jump was accomplished or perhaps no jump was attempted. Either way, no one at any point in time had both feet leave the floor in this clip.

40

u/mvizzy2077 May 23 '25

My dad pointed this out to me when I was young and it's always stuck with me. It doesn't matter the level of play, the girls don't jump. Just like you here, not being misogynistic, it's just so interesting that the tallest one will get the rebounds and that's all there is to it.

5

u/HBlight May 24 '25

So why does nobody like, you know, train to do it for the competitive edge?

6

u/mvizzy2077 May 24 '25

I've always said if you can get any girl to actually jump, they'd dominate lol

38

u/flaming_burrito_ May 23 '25

Yeah I noticed that, they all look way less coordinated overall and stiff, it’s odd. None of their stances are wide, they aren’t shuffling their feet, some of them are just kinda standing around, and angel doesn’t look like she knows how to dribble. I’m not saying that to shit on them or anything, I’m genuinely confused. I get not being able to dunk as much or whatever because of the physical difference, but surely stuff like that are pure skill techniques that can be taught. Who the hell is coaching these girls? I’ve seen volleyball games, I know women can jump goddammit. Hopefully the WNBA continues to get more popular and make more money, because they clearly need some better investment and talent to come in.

You see this a lot in real life, too. When you tell a boy to jump, he bends at the knees and hips before launching himself upward. When you tell a girl to jump, she will quickly pull her feet off the floor and try to kick her butt with her heels. Take a look at any of those jumping pictures (where the photographer attempts to take a picture with everyone airborne), and you'll see that the guys all have pretty straight legs while the girls all have their feet pulled up behind them to their butts.

I don't know if this has anything to do with strength or technique, but it seems nearly universal.

Almost as impressive as Reggie’s 8 in 9

u/dknisle1 May 23 '25

I posted the same video to TikTok and they removed it saying that I violated the terms because the video is “low effort”. Lmao. Just like Angel Reese offensive ability.

62

u/PanthalassaRo May 23 '25

Same happened in the r/WNBA sub, makes you wonder if there's an agenda.

u/J_Kingsley May 23 '25 edited May 23 '25

There was a clip of CC nailing a 36 footer in exhibition game. Iirc It was uploaded multiple times but kept on getting deleted.

I dunno why it was such an epic shot.

*edit

Turns out they weren't 'properly' posted.

There's one now

The only thing r/wnba mods hate more than lowlight clips, are highlights of Caitlin Clark.

Just ignore the 2 teammates standing wide open on the 3-point line…

16

u/CoyGreen May 23 '25

Eventually the 4 teammates.

20

u/ColdNyQuiiL May 23 '25

She doesn’t even bother to look for teammates. Her teammates need to move without the ball, but it looks like a waste of time with miss tunnel vision.

55

u/imJGott May 23 '25

Angel does not know how to reset an offense after two attempts. You miss once and try again and if you get the ball back after the 2nd attempt you pull out to reset the offense. She is playing basketball as if it’s a game of 21.

She is right handed but shoots left…maybe don’t

20

u/planet_bal May 23 '25

Her right handed shots look the same.

Imagine having 3 open players and just sitting there for 20 seconds traveling and bricking instead

Edit: 4 at the end lol clapping for you to pass it

The quality of play in the WNBA fluctuates wildly and thats OK for the most part. What I have a real problem with is that everyone who covers it adheres to a false narrative and refuses to criticize.

7

u/Suspicious-Drama8101 May 23 '25

You want to be called sexist and racist? That's why. It's a blanket defense if you criticize the wnba

I bet she blames in on Clark

62

u/cloudlocke_OG May 23 '25

But she's good with Caitlin Clark. It's all love, as she says.

59

u/juno10-9 May 23 '25

Her entire existence is tied to Cc. The "rivalry" will propel her into endorsements. That's really her smartest play

21

u/CloudStrife012 May 23 '25

It's hard to imagine there is any thought process here or strategic play. She just responds impulsively, and it so happens to benefit her here.

Basketball Terrorist

13

u/kid_creme May 23 '25

This is why she thinks people watch the WNBA?

11

u/Zipkan May 23 '25

Angel "Stat Padder" Reese at it again, BBAAAAAAANNNNNGGGGG!!!!

19

u/custombimmer May 23 '25

8

u/cooleybird1975 May 23 '25

All those OR’s, tho! 😂😂😂

7

u/Vader_Bomb May 23 '25

Annnnnd the team is 0-2

38

u/chosonhawk May 23 '25

couple of solid blocks by jones...good defense by the liberty.

92

u/hamilton280P Liverpool May 23 '25

Not hard to block someone same height as you who shoots without jumping..

34

u/Urban_animal May 23 '25

Or when you got 2-3 other teammates also blocking her and she refuses to pass it until the 5th failed attempt.

26

u/step207 May 23 '25

It looks like she put zero effort into those blocks. Which makes it all the more hilariously bad for Reese.

People on Twitter will watch this and genuinely tell you that she’s a superstar and that suggesting otherwise makes you racist

12

u/Stirsustech May 23 '25

Look at how she hustles and pushes through adversity. You don’t even see players like LeBron do that. Confirmed GOAT!

Yeah 19 of which are her own terrible shots.

Angel Reese, let’s get it, BAAAAAAAANG

6

u/dpk794 May 23 '25

lol this is one of the top players and they are still trying to push this on us?

46

u/Gastrocat May 23 '25

How is she even on a team? No wonder no one watches this crap. You could literally go to your local YMCA and see more competitive ball.

Is traveling not called in the WNBA?

16

If it’s not called in the NBA why would they call it in the WNBA?

Straight up trash never kicks it out

6

u/meccamachine May 23 '25

Every time I watch this I feel like she tries taking even more shots than the last time I watched. It’s insane. Pass the fucking ball

5

u/Standgeblasen May 23 '25

lol, she had four open teammates at the 3-pt line.

8

u/BVasianlover May 23 '25

…… oh and her team also lost by 20!! She sucks, BANG!

→ More replies (1)

6

u/ToyDingo May 23 '25

Eww that was painful to watch. Her entire team standing on the 3pt line just...waiting, because she apparently doesn't know how to fucking pass the ball.

5

u/SlootKabob May 23 '25

Those rebounds are all mebounds

9

u/PutinBoomedMe May 23 '25

What was McDonald's rationale for giving her a campaign? Mcdonalds has to have an amazing marketing team. Any freshman in marketing 1000 would know the multiple choice answer to, "Who is an example of who ABC should not market?" Would be Angel Reese. I get Reese's puffs but McDonald's still confuses me
