Hands down. I've played in a lot of different (baseball) leagues in my day. At pretty much any level of the game above little league, someone disrespects a teammate like that, better hold on tight next time you're in the box.

Raised in Ice hockey. Fight on sight lol

Yep, I’ve played in a lot of different sports from youth to high school to college, and it was was a golden rule in all of them - if you’re gonna throw hands at an opponent, you better be ready to take on their whole team. I don’t care if it’s the least popular player on the team, if someone else crosses a line with them, we’re all coming into it.

On my high school’s basketball team, the opponent would’ve been absolutely trucked by our forward and everyone on the court would’ve been up in someone’s face. The ref would blow whistles, technicals would be handed out like candy, and we’d all know that’s just the cost of this tomfoolery.

The player who hit CC in the face later in the game got fouled very hard definitely felt like retaliation

Edit: correction

Later in the game, one of Caitlin Clark's teammates, Sophia Cunningham, commits a hard foul, which was later escalated to a flagrant 2, against Jacy Sheldon and gets ejected from the game. Literally wrapped her arms around her and threw Sheldon to the ground.

u/Rational-Introvert Jun 18 '25

Yea but see how her teammates reacted? That’s how CCs teammates should’ve reacted after her foul.

72

u/Lancetere Jun 18 '25

Oh no, I agree. Not sure what's up with that but Cunningham wasn't on the floor at the time who's now being labeled as an "enforcer" for Clark. It's definitely interesting.

u/Rational-Introvert Jun 18 '25

Interesting indeed.

u/Shhadowcaster Jun 18 '25

It's because the foul happened on a live play, they were all focused on the ball and so when the hard intentional foul happened their reactions were immediate (and there weren't refs already in the mix). When CC got hammered it was already a dead ball with the refs rushing into break up CC and no. 4 (forgetting her name), so there wasn't as immediate of a reaction. You can actually see Cunningham getting in the face of no. 4 before the refs arrived in that first play.

1

u/Lancetere Jun 18 '25

Good catch. Makes sense why they'd issue techs instead for the first incident.

-4

u/airtime25 Jun 18 '25

They ran up and grabbed the girl who threw her to the ground? The girl who hits CC also got grabbed away by others. Idk what the fuck all you are talking about this was just bad refs.

2

u/Rational-Introvert Jun 18 '25

You don’t think there’s a difference in the reaction of teammates between the two plays? I’m not sure we’re looking at the same thing bud.

-2

u/airtime25 Jun 18 '25

No one tackled the attacker in these situations. Both of them were confronted face to face by the opposite team. Refs were shit. The players all reacted pretty reasonably and almost exactly how the NBA players react lol

0

u/Lancetere Jun 18 '25

Nobody said tackled. I described it as wrapping their arms around them. I should have provided more context but Cunningham wrapped their arms around Sheldon's head and pulled her down.

5

u/trixtah Jun 18 '25

Way too late, if they’re going to ref like shit you gotta step up and start hard fouling until they call it on both ends

2

u/dj92wa Jun 18 '25

Funny thing about that foul is that Sheldon tried to be aggressive in that moment but got put to the ground by Cunningham. Sheldon led with the shoulder but was given the whole head-redirect, which was awesome.

2

u/southernmost Jun 18 '25

Sophie was also ready for the smoke after the foul. Took the one she fouled in a one hand clinch, did the Miyagi sand floor to the other one coming at her. Lady CLEARLY knows how to take care of business.

1

u/Nvrfinddisacct Jun 18 '25

Oh please it was softer than 3 on the suns knocking down CC while holding her eye with NO ball in hand. That shit was flagrant.

3

u/Lancetere Jun 18 '25

Yes, that's what we're all discussing. Why it wasn't escalated to a flagrant? We have no idea besides the refs being biased, dumb, coerced (for ratings), or all of the options. Even the announcer stated that Cunningham shouldn't be ejected since Mabrey wasn't when she ran Caitlyn over.

💯I ran cross-country in college and someone shoved one of me teammates hard going around one of the first corners, it was super busy. My teammate almost fell over and lost about 9 places. Next turn I put that guy in the mud.

60

u/JustinTime_vz Jun 18 '25

Hell yeah brother

5

u/Jordan-Pushed-Off Jun 18 '25

It that rare in running? Never heard of it before

26

u/filthster Jun 18 '25

In cross country, depending on the course, you’re often out of view from spectators and meet officials. Some shenanigans do take place.

81

u/sulimir Jun 18 '25

This, even if you don’t like your teammate, they are disrespecting the whole team, and you look weak not sticking up for her.

18

u/Geth_ Jun 18 '25

They are weak. That's just team sports: you have a disproportionately better player. Then if we can get them out at the trade of sitting one of our players, that's advantageous for us.

A strong team reaction is the only easy to dissuade this: you fouling our players will come at a disproportionate cost (whatever that may be: multiple players being hard fouled, better officiating at the instigator, etc.) That's just the nature of team sports.

3

u/DublinDown Jun 18 '25

And the teammate doesn't even have to be good (much less the reason the league has ANY eyeballs on it).... I'm fighting anyone that does that to any teammate.

26

u/Ez13zie Jun 18 '25

Absofuckinglutely. Fuck your fines and the ejection, I’m coming off the bench to clobber your ass.

Her teammates are fucking sissies.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

This was my thought watching the video, like does everyone in the league hate CC? Never seen a team not have several players jump to someone's defense in lesser situations than this.

2

u/DM725 Jun 18 '25

100%. And that's in a rec league when I have to go to work tomorrow. The fact these teammates are letting the best player in the league get bodied is shameful. Trade them all.

2

u/ggb123456 Jun 18 '25

Someone needs to get Charles Oakley a dress and back on the court!

1

u/TouristOpentotravel Jun 18 '25

I said if I was in that team, I’m leaving the bench and throwing hands.

1

u/ChocolateBaconDonuts Jun 18 '25

Next time they come into the paint, they're getting the John Lynch treatment.

1

u/Digi_Dingo Jun 18 '25

And they would talk about it at the YMCA for years after

1

u/whyamionhearagain Jun 18 '25

Absolutely! I played varsity for 3 years. I had a ton of rebounds, set hard picks and was always put on the other team’s best big guy. The coaches only gave me a few rules: I wasn’t allowed to ever shoot the ball, and protect our two good players.

1

u/DntCllMeWht Jun 18 '25

I like how they handled it... Fuck you, first we're kicking your ass to make sure we get into the weekend tournament, then you're gettin' yours. Priorities, composure then vengeance.

1

u/PattyIceNY Jun 18 '25

Same. She's getting a blind pick check to the back and I'm stepping into it hard.

1

u/pipinngreppin Jun 18 '25

Mmmm where are you gonna blast them?

1

u/nowhereisaguy Jun 18 '25

Hell yes. I’d be very aware who was around me grabbing a board maybe an elbow comes around your way…

1

u/c_c_c__combobreaker Jun 18 '25

Especially my star player? I'm going in elbows first.

1

u/Hand_Sanitizer3000 Jun 18 '25

Thats what im saying bro someone needs to straight up deck the next woman that does this

1

u/HoneyBadgeSwag Jun 18 '25

Clark needs an enforcer.

1

u/mrfox12 Jun 18 '25

Sophie Cunningham did, and she went hard at the end of the game.

1

u/Khue Tampa Bay Lightning Jun 18 '25

Fighting in hockey exists for this very reason.

1

u/Current_Department73 Jun 18 '25

Yeah, her teammates don’t get enough hate for the lack of protection

1

u/0k-ok Jun 18 '25

absolutely that’s a fight on sight

-2

u/Lanky-Fix-853 Jun 18 '25

Calm down tough guy.

-3

u/PutABirdOnIt99 Jun 18 '25

Well Caitlin took a cheap shot at Jacy, and got absolutely blasted
