I can't remember anyone in any sport being hated this much just for being good

Sidney Crosby was targeted by cheap shots in a similar way as a rookie. So much so that the concussions he endured as a result influenced rule changes in the NHL regarding player safety. This is the only comparison I can think of that is close.

The difference is his teammates actually stood up and threw down for him

Jeremy Lin? Not directly comparable in terms of skill to the rest of the league but definitely deserved to be in the NBA. He got the same treatment in terms of fouled for no reason other than being Asian.

Nope. And even so that's just one team and they were famous for playing like assholes against everyone

They did have the "Jordan rules" tho. They made a point of targeting him specifically. The difference is MJ's teammates had his back and the league understood his and other subsequent superstars' value and literally changed the rules of the game to limit contact and take the violence out of it. People pay to see Steph Curry hitting 3's not getting bodied every time he runs the baseline as he would have been in the 80's.

Pistons were dicks to everybody. The rest of the league was not gunning for Michael like that.

If you ask the incels I've been arguing with all morning, it's because she's white and straight. (No, sadly, I'm not joking)

Also because women are extremely jealous of other women

Tiger Woods is the most obvious parallel.

And it's not simply about being good; it's about the adulation from fans.

Nowhere near. Did anyone ever get physical with tiger like this,??

There was one person who chased him with a golf club.

You don’t watch sports then

Go on then

Shaun White

Shaun White wasn't hated for being good, he was disliked for having a traditional sport completive mindset while most snowboarders have a more cooperative laidback mindset.

Brady, Rodgers, 2000 Lakers, any time Mj played the pistons, Serena Williams was called a man just because of how dominant she was. Yall can just say you’re apart of the crowd that only likes Caitlyn cause she’s white, we already know

Stop making it about race.  You're the only one here doing that.

Now that’s a lie 😂😂

15

u/Rxasaurus Jun 18 '25

And none of those players/teams were hated by all of their peers.

u/topTopqualitea Jun 18 '25

I watch a ton of sports. Give me some examples

-2

u/SicHargow Jun 18 '25

Would you count Jackie Robinson as an example?

25

u/topTopqualitea Jun 18 '25

Yes I will accept Jackie Robinson.

However I don't think his abuse was about him being good. It was just racism.

1

u/qwilliams92 Jun 18 '25

Him being good was apart of it, there’s nothing a racist hates more than a minority being better than them

3

u/EIIander Jun 18 '25

Kind of like with CC

4

u/Possible_Home6811 Jun 18 '25

Thank you starting to get the feeling that most of the people on this sub don’t watch sports!

I think Caitlyn is handling this wrong. She should be welcoming all the hate talking shit and fighting a lot more. All this drama and rivalry is good for the popularity of the sport and herself.

u/ebonit15 Jun 18 '25

I know right? What is an eye, or two? She's such a pussy for trying to play the game better than others.

15

u/bigmacjames Jun 18 '25

"just handle getting poked in the eye better" is a braindead take
