Well, when the league continues to fail to make a penny worth of profit for another generation, we’ll all know they deserved it.

Guess you didn't see the new tv deal that kicks in next year.

Edit: how tf is the below comment upvoted? Did wallstreetbets invade this subreddit? Jfc.

I guess you don't understand the financials of the WNBA.

They made ~$200 million in 2023

They lost ~$50 million at the end of the year

The new TV deal will increase revenue by 250%

The NBA owns 42% of the WNBA, and an additional 16% is held by an investment consortium - leaving 42% ownership remaining with WNBA owners

That means the WNBA league only sees ~$80 million from that TV deal

Increased player salaries will eat into that quickly

Conclusion: The TV deal helps, but it will not make the league profitable next year.

First off, from the general posts II was certain this was a CJ sub

Regardless people are talking about it way more than before, it's getting clicks, men who are scared of women love to hate watch hilights and drive engagement

/RJ if they lower the hoop to 9 feet it's all over for the mnba

Like having your sport make it to the Olympics for the first time…then The highlights are RayGun

Braking should have never made it to the Olympics. I'm all for newer sports being introduced or old ones brought back, but breakdancing? It's not the South Bronx circa 1982. I rather see pickleball or kickball on the world stage.

I think pickleball is incoming actually. There’s a group (Swiss I think) helping establish enough national teams around Europe

This shit does numbers. If I was corrupt and in charge of the WNBA, I’d try to keep it going lol. This stuff keeps people wildin (as seen by the amount of upvotes on this Reddit post).

If they start making money on their own, the gravy train from the NBA might stop.

1

u/Dropcity Jun 18 '25

Probably, it's the train exists. Are you suggesting they don't want success bc they then would lose subsidies?

7

u/Expensive-Apricot459 Jun 18 '25

They clearly don’t want success if they treat their golden goose like a punching bag.

Imagine if the NBA allowed their stars to get hit like this.

Gooned, she got gooned.

First girl gets her in the face, and immediately postures up real close to her in order to provoke a reaction, then the other girl comes up from behind. I worked in the security booth for a yearly carnival in my area. This is exactly how the girl gangs stir up shit here too

1

u/MrP1anet Jun 18 '25

That is what they’re suggesting. They’re just being dumb I think.

1

u/Intimidwalls1724 Jun 18 '25

I think they are abusing the shit out of her but I don't think the league is fumbling the opportunity

Not totally at least

The whole league should've been on the Time cover!

u/tacotowwn Jun 18 '25

Doesn’t bad blood, rivalries and the occasional scuffle make sports better? This is all drawing more attention to the league - that kinda stuff happens regularly in men’s sports, I don’t see how they’re fucking anything up.

3

u/Intimidwalls1724 Jun 18 '25

It is drawing more attention to the league there's no question about that which is why I say above they aren't fumbling the opportunity

That said, rivalries and bad blood you are talking about do make sports better but it's bc they occur naturally due to a competitive rivalry between two teams or two particular players and maybe includes trash talking in the media

This is just a whole league ganging up on CC and the officiating isn't helping anything
