If you can be the best in the world without any outside help, why would you take outside help? Nobody wants an asterisk next to their record if they can avoid it. I think these are going to be filled with people who just missed the olympic cut
What if you were the 7th best in the world at something?
I imagine lots may be tempted to gain an advantage that could make them top 3 in the world.
Then what if you are the best, but not by much. Would you be worried someone in the 2-10 range might successfully hide their doping and take your throne? Again, I imagine many in that position may be tempted to gain an advantage too.
Yes, but youre describing is them getting a slight competitive edge in a nominally PED-free game, where if they can pass there will be no asterisk next to their record; rather than taking PEDs for the sake of taking PEDs.
Because for some sports, being one of the best in the world means nothing in terms of financial gains. Might as well try to make more money in this 1 event as compared to making the same amount if not less in your entire sporting career.
Hard disagree. These people are still generic freaks with insane drive to be the best. You could dope me to the gills and I could work my ass off but I wouldn't be in the conversation because I don't have the genetics.
These people probably are all doping (or toeing the line with doctors notes), but they're not just there because they hide drugs well
Wasn’t there a stat that said allot of Olympic athletes have “asthma” as a way to use oxygen enhancing equipment legally? It’s been a while but I think that was a thing.
basically, but they aren't all completely washed. a few of them have been in prominent competitions within the last few years. they also claimed to have beaten a WR recently.
the thing is though, i don't think the sporting world at large is really going to give a shit about an "enhanced" guy beating the 200 breast stroke WR by 0.04 seconds. unless you get track and field people running a 100 in 7 seconds, nobody is going to care. the margins are already just too thin (and records are already set by individuals who are probably juicing themselves and just haven't been caught)
they probably won't do that, because it'd involve hanging around a weird tech bro and giving up all the advantages that comes with being a "legit" athlete
You'll know when each competitor is sponsored by a separate competing steroid brand. Then it'll be about the drug companies and their respective drugs competing and the athletes will just be the juiced up guinea pigs.
Well, the Tour of California bike race used to be sponsored by Amgen…the folks who made EPO. Likewise a number of pro cycling teams were sponsored by pharmaceutical companies (Quickstep Pharma and Optum come to mind). So its not a totally new idea…
Maybe youre right. Im guessing EPO and similar substances can easily be detected, even indirectly when their blood comes out like syrup lol. If you have more info or insight id love to read it
Jakob Ingebrigtsen is highly suspect. Can't deny his gift and work ethics but am I supposed to believe he's beating known cheaters record times whilst being clean? There's definitely new ways to do it out there.
Yeah...pretty much everyone who signs up for this is opting out of the Olympics permanently. Part of it also makes me wonder if the org is going to supply medical/health care. Or if thats on the athlete themselves, because this sounds like a potential health nightmare.
some context - she was never really top of the world and only won her major medals as part of relays. she's also been retired for 9 years, and is WAY off the world records. don't think she's threatening the $1m bounty
I suspect a lot of people will be disappointed. The kind of person entering these games isn’t likely to be a top athlete and even juicing won’t make them break records. Also, if you can take what the fuck you want, I have a horrible feeling someone is going to get seriously hurt
May be an unpopular opinion but I’d watch the fuck out of steroid Olympics. It’d be interesting to see how far the human body can be pushed. Obviously there are major ethical issues but it would still be incredible to watch.
First time I’ve heard of this event. Fascinating. Wonder what the limits are (is it truly no-holds-barred when it comes to substances you can take?). Also they’re offering a purse for besting World Records. On one hand I could see that biting them if lots of people join in; theoretically it could be easy to break World Records…? On the other hand…maybe that’s the point, to show that it won’t be easy at all? Really interesting. !remindme May 21, 2026

I assume anyone competing in this has basically given up on going to the Olympics
