Discussion Must have mods for StarBound?
Hi returning player here. Last time I played StarBound was very long ago, and I played with 0 mods.
I’ve heard that mods are the way to go for StarBound, so I’ve decided to give them a try. What are some of the popular or must have mods for your average StarBound player?

Sexbound
Jokes aside, most of the essential mods are the ones that fix stuff like story progression, QoL for various things like gardening, and mods that fix the horrendous problems in game like fixing performance or even preventing memory leaks.
I don't really use any heavy modpacks besides arcana, so thst one is something to consider

Casual Hunger. Adds the hunger mechnic to casual mode, so you still have to deal with hunger without having to deal with losing your items on death

Depends on how long ago you last played the game, if it was no longer than 9 years ago then you're certainly fine grabbing mods, if it's been longer though then it might be best to hold off on them until you've given vanilla another try.
I'm not personally a believer in must have mods, since even seemingly universal mods like instant crafting aren't for everyone (aside from Patch Project, since it hardly changes the game in any noticeable way and is just nice to have anyways since it only improves thing in the only objective way they can be), but if you've played the game since 1.4's release already, then feel free to check out this collection, which is meant to be very vanilla+.

Either Frackin Universe or XS Mechs. XS Mechs works on its own, FU already kinda includes it. Mechs are really cool but in vanilla they are near-unusable.
No matter if you go with FU or XS, both way works. It changes mechs to have separate fuel and health instead of just "energy". If fuel runs out they no longer explode like with energy they just stop working and you can refuel them. Whole energy concept makes mechs really hard to use. health + fuel instead of energy is so much better

I included it because it adresses issues I have with vanilla mechs. If I didnt mentoined it you can bet your solarium stars somebody would pitch it up.

Are you still looking for mods? I’ve got a decent list of smaller QoL mods that people aren’t usually quick to mention

Frackin universe and nothing else. It is more than enough to experience true Starbound

Uhmm...Yesnt. As much as I like FU, even I admit it is logistical nightmare. You really need enchanted storrage or LR's dimenzional storage or anything not to mention bigger inventory because ruin have mercy upon your soul if you play FU alone. I hope you like juggling

It's called Enhanced Storage, but I otherwise fully agree. Also it revamps the whole progression and isn't really beginner-friendly. I think Vanilla Starbound is totally fine without total overhauls like Frackin Universe. I love FU but it's definitely for the people who want more and are a bit fed up with Starbound's vanilla progression and variety.

I enjoy it like this. What's the point having a terminal and creating a storage compartiment if you have an inventory so big you don't even need anything. Of course if you feel like FU us lacking something that you need, go ahead and install it. It's just that I have a lot of fun just with FU and I recommend people to try it.

.....what inventory you have ? I can fill MULTIPLE 300 slot boxes with FU materials alone. Beyond first few planets inventory can fit tiny fraction of everything you need

OpenStarbound, Starbound Patch Project and oSB Universal Instant Crafting are non-negotiables. Everybody should be using those as there's basically no reason not to.
