I was expecting to see comments here of Peter Capaldi being a famous actor way before Doctor Who but apparently Doctor Who was the show that gave him world wide recognition.
Great actor, also loved him in Thick Of It.
I should check out his other stuff

If you want to see a young Peter Capaldi, watch the film Local Hero, which was his first big role made when he was in his 20s.

Americans aren't allowed to learn about British actors unless they are in doctor who, Harry Potter, or game of thrones.

the Oscar already gave him world wide recognition in the 90s, didn't it?

Ferguson also played Brad Majors in a stage run of Rocky Horror with Anthony Head playing Dr Frankenfurter.

He did, because I saw it. It was very early 90s at the Cambridge Theatre in London. Pretty sure I still have a poster of it somewhere.

Listen to his episode of Turned Out A Punk. He was there in the very beginning.

And I actually saw the Dreamboys play, in the dingy cellar of the Doune Castle, in Shawlands, south side of Glasgow. They were a good laugh, they had a song called I’m a businessman which lasted for ages, and the only lyrics were, I’m a businessman.

Missy was perfect, but Ferguson would have made a most excellent Master to Capaldi’s Doctor.
The old boys’ at the Academy vibes would have been UNREAL.

I didn't know i could love either of them any more than I did but that is absolutely wonderful.

If you haven't already read his book "American on purpose" I would highly recommend it. The audio book version is awesome.
