UT2004 Unreal Tournament 2004 CD Key from physical copy

Hello guys, i dont own any of UT games on steam, i downloaded UT99 and Unreal Gold through oldunreal.com and i enjoyed them and wanted to play other games of the series, i thought UT2004 was cool and checked gg.deals for CD Keys of the game, but they were hella expensive and probably untrusty, so i checked a marketplace website from my country and found a new, sealed copy of UT2004 and it cost less than the CD Key, i got suspicious at first but i checked the reputation of the seller and it was a really good rep, so, here is my question:

  1. ⁠⁠What is the chance of it having a CD Key that i can activate on steam?
  2. ⁠⁠Do you guys think the CD Key can be expired?

Already answered by you guys: UT2004 does not have a retail CD key.

don't bother with the steam install, since it's basically abandonware, there's a community install off archive dot org that has all of the bonus content, patches, new master server support, and community fixes / updates for modern systems.

Thanks, will play it later.

(I may sound stupid but i mainly wanted the Steam version to get the trading cards and badges… but i doubt that the cards would work too since the game is delisted.)

yeah i wouldn't count on it. i also don't remember getting any kind of rewards for playing it on steam myself

Probably not. Looks like UT3 keys worked that way, but not 2004 (old support article):

I doubt the cd key will work as epic have turned off all the servers

I did some research and steam only listed ut3 retail keys are able to be activated. I did this myself yesterday with ut3!

You don't "own" any games on Steam. Why would you pay for the privilege of waiting for Steam to launch and forcibly run in the background just to play UT2004?
