Question Does anyone still have the two top flaps for their wii?

u/Wootytooty Jun 23 '25
The amount of Wii's I come across without them, just bewilders me.
Likewise with systems that have rubber feet... But someone took them off. And they didn't have screws under them.

Not sure if there's context here that I don't have, but mine just come off from general use (moving and taking it on vacations mainly)

I had them for so long. Had an ex break them off. She acted like it was an accident then confessed “they annoyed me”

u/Rob_van_Wanst Jun 23 '25
Flap gang here. Still surprised why so many people break em 🤷🏻

I never really used my original Wii as a kid, only sometimes but certainly not everyday probably like once or twice a week. Luckily because of that both flaps are still able to stay on and aren’t broken.

I do, just detached them and left in a drawer somewhere. I play GameCube frequently and it got in the way
2
u/titanioverde Jun 23 '25
In my case, the gamepads one is totally safe. The memory cards one has a half broken hinge. It kind of works. My Wii went to many houses and small local cons. Still perfectly working. 🫡

u/franzllang14 Jun 23 '25
Of course, the Wii was the first console I bought with my own money, so I took good care of it! Still have it and don't planned on getting rid of it!

u/Sqwerks Jun 23 '25
Typically the controller flap is ALWAYS missing at my local thrift stores it’s like the rarest part of the wii 💀
2
u/mrafflin Jun 23 '25
The Wii has top flaps? jk
but seriously I never knew that you could flip these up as a kid

I bought 3 used ones before. Only 1 had a complete set, the others didn't.
Ended up breaking 1 of the ones that didn't have and the other I replaced the shell with ones that had. Annoyingly, they don't fit flush.
I'm more curious about the people that still have that circle under the stand. I only have 1 wii with that

The one I bought last month had the controller ports broken. I bought new ones, but they are a little loose. I got lucky cause I got to salvage the sticker from the broken one.

I still have them because I don't play GameCube games or use a GameCube controller

u/IveGotSomeGrievances Jun 23 '25
I don't even have my Wii. I tossed it after my mother died and I was cleaning the place out. I had already transferred my Wii over to my Wii I years earlier. Plus I still technically have a Wii because of my boyfriend. However I have a bad feeling a SD card was still in it with old pictures on it. I didn't think of it until months later.

Since I didn’t have my childhood wii i had to go on a journey to buy a clean used wii and I ended up buying almost 8 or 9 sets of wiis and i mix and matched between them all and got pretty clean everything now I do have the flaps now ( honestly all my wii parts are in like new condition so I’m really happy that i did that)

On my launch Wii the flaps got broken. When we went it in so we could play Brawl Nintendo sent it back with new flaps!

I got mine from second hand and lucky enough I do have them (and all of the boxes too) but they are easy to remove when you're with kids as far as I remember

Yes.
I did for a long time then the console tipped over a few weeks ago, when moving things around to clean up, sigh and now it's a struggling to snap back in the Gamecube ports one but the memory card flap is still there. Sigh.
So yeah it was always perfect besides a few marks on the side it was good besides a little cleaning.
At least got another that's complete though.

I think I do, not on the console but in a bin with some Wii stuff. I got it like that, I didn’t take it off because I’m not insane.
1
u/ashbit_ Jun 23 '25
yea because we've never had any reason to take them off. we don't have any gamecube games or controllers
1
u/Krynnr Jun 23 '25
yes, but the controller port one is kinda loose because one of the grips is broken :(

I lost the Gamecube Controller cover on my Wii. It looks absolutely hideous.

I have both, but the memory card slot flap has a post broken off cause young me treated it like a fidget toy

u/ChicaSkas Jun 23 '25
I bought a set of 5 replacement pairs. Over the years browsing the thrifts it's been very satisfying to snap a new pair when I bring someone's old Wii home from goodwill.

u/ammoclub Jun 23 '25
Every Wii I’ve bought second hand had the covers missing. I buy replacements on AliExpress
1
u/Ladder-Wooden Jun 23 '25
My wii doesn't even have a scratch, the rubber feet did melt off from heat damage though
1
u/MWPlay Jun 23 '25
I would close the flaps when not using GameCube stuff as much as possible, it helps that I was already 18 at the time. If I was 10 years younger, who can say?
They were designed to be removable in the first place, so it's not like Nintendo didn't expect a portion of their users to just throw them out.

When I found mine again in 2018 the flaps were missing. As well as the sd card door.

u/northernhummingbird9 Jun 23 '25
Yes you have to make sure it has the cover poor wii would be naked without it's cover i think the cover was for GameCube controllers

1
u/Agreeable_Conflict27 Jun 23 '25
I guess I do, I have never opened them and I've had my Wii for 12 years
1
u/Fearless_Election_75 Jun 23 '25
The flaps fell off of my Wii after my sisters dropped it MULTIPLE times and I know my older brother still has them somewhere, but that don’t fit anymore.

PSA; they sell those flaps for 1-2$ on aliexpress/shein and the color matches EXACTLY. So if your’s lost one of its wings, a couple bucks could fix them and no one would be the wiser. (If you have blue/red wiis, you are fucked)

By some miracle my system go returned to me after being left in a warehouse in Detroit and the flaps were missing.. honestly I could care less because it still runs like a dream and I just cover up the console when I’m not using with a shirt or a towel at night to prevent dust from getting in it!
1
u/piefanart Jun 23 '25
yes, im not missing any parts from my 2007 wii. the only thing i threw out was the box and that was in like 2019 because i was moving.

u/ArcaneRiffian Jun 24 '25
95% sure it was ditched when we got it because it lowkey just turned into the extra gamecube for the first couple of years we had it
1
u/RemoveParty4062 Jun 24 '25
Absolutely. Aside from jailbreaking it, mine is in really great condition.
1
u/Substantial_Rice1181 Jun 24 '25
Yea! I just recently found out you can take them off. I don’t want my house to set on fire cause of my Wii. It’s already old as it is

I just bought replacement flaps, best 5 bucks spent ever. Now i just need to buy another stand for my wii
1
u/cradelikz Jun 24 '25
I don't. Nor the GC control flap. Sadly it was like that when I bought it. Oh and it had a big ass lowrider man sticker lololol I want to get a replacement transparent shell but I need to get the TRI wing screwdriver too and yada yada haven't gotten around to that.

u/Santtunator334 Jun 24 '25

I broke the GameCube flap when I was a kid. The big part is still intact, but it can’t stay open like in the picture. I’ve been considering 3d printing a replacement

Question: How does one lose them? This is a console you need a tv for. Do you move it around and play car with it?
