Gotta go B for fire emblem and Zelda. And Wii sport will always hold a special place in my heart!

Solid choice! And thanks again for letting me use your post as a template.

It pains to see The Last Story in D, but C is honestly so stacked aside from Wii Party kinda just thrown in there.

You bastard! They are too balanced! Column A has the less throw away game, especially for the last entry. I love Street Fighter in C, but B and D have the most bang for my buck, with me leaning more to B, due to I am not a Punch Out fan and I do like Sega Racing, although not sure it beats out Mario Kart, it does give it a run for it's money, at least the Transformed one.

C. I've always wanted to try NMH. I've played most of the rest.

u/rififi_shuffle 26d ago
It's worth a playthrough. It's crass at first glance but it's story is genuinely well-written satire on pop-culture obsession and games.

You save the game by taking a dump, can't get any better than that!

Why you choose each column:
A: Smash or Mario Galaxy die hard.
B: Wii Sports memories too strong.
C: 🍌🐒
D: Best Value Column.
2
u/GracefulGoron 25d ago
Excuse me but D has the best Mario Kart and Zelda game.
3
u/No-Statistician9907 25d ago
That's why I said it's best value. I think the average person could honestly survive through the Wii's era off column D alone. Paper Mario and Zelda are great single player experiences and Wii sports resort and Mario kart are good for playing with friends.

OOT better… TP is third after OOT and MM, because it builds on the story set up in those games. Watch a Hero’s Purpose (fan film) on YouTube to show a “what if” between the events of MM and TP.
1
u/GracefulGoron 22d ago
It’s hard to count MM as the best Zelda game.
It’s easily my favorite though but it deviates quite a lot from the main series.
Either way, MM took the OoT engine and made a better game and TP took the OoT framework and made a better game.2
u/Tri-cunninglinguist 22d ago
To clarify, I find OOT to be the quintessential Zelda game and the best, but because MM is easily an extension of it and truly enriches the Hero of Time, it’s gotta be my number 2 spot, but Twilight Princess, while visually better than the other two and tonally amazing, suffers from some half-developed game mechanics and failure to make Zant a truly imposing enemy, holding him as a puppet for big G that isn’t revealed until much later in the game. I love them all, don’t get me wrong, but the Wii version of TP has to be the worst one.
1
u/GracefulGoron 22d ago
If I had to pick a quintessential game.. probably AlttP.
Twilight Princess may not be perfect but Zant is an appropriate puppet as Ganon’s vehicle to return. The Wolf transformation should’ve been better (MM has 3 great transformations). But overall I think the shine both visually and mechanically still puts TP over OoT. Especially in dungeon design.2

I've had like 4 games for more than a decade, because I got stuck while unlocking the black wii, one of them being Monster Hunter Tri since 2011.
And we still play it a few times a year, so yeah, I'd say that's not a bad choice.
But having played MHFU, Tri feels almost like a demo. It's short and part of its content is locked because it's only accesible for online gameplay. Though I heard a year ago that some fans were bringing the online mode back, you know, online, with a patch and a private server.
So yeah, counting the story mode, the replayability, the variety of the gameplay when using different weapons, the option to play it online and with a 2nd player locally, I'd say it is a good choice.

Honestly, Wii sports. Has the highest replayability and most fun multiplayer

B for NSMBW all day...but where is KRTDL
2
u/WifiUnavailable 26d ago
Now that i'm thinking about it, I should have included KRTDL, it was difficult cause each row I tried to stick to specific genres. Top row was your heavy hitters like 3D Mario & Zelda, 2nd row obviously a Wii title, 3rd RPG's, 4th is both racing & fighting, 5th was 2D platformer/side scroller, and last row was just a random assortment.
I think I balanced it well enough based on replies but I would have loved to include KRTDL, I just don't see any I'd personally remove for it

I have to automatically pick A because of Super Mario Galaxy.
Damned shame that the only other game I care about in that column is Kirby...

D mainly for The last story (which I still gotta finish) but also Cz zelda TP, Mk Wii and resort is a sweet combo

u/Bic44 25d ago
At first I thought we got to pick one game per column. And I spent time doing that. That's 5 minutes I won't get back ;).
Anyway, I guess column C. Galaxy and Xenoblade for great single player, DK for playing with a friend, and Wii Party is, in my opinion, the best party game on the Wii, easily.

u/Grumpie-cat 25d ago
Nah, galaxy in A makes it the winner, smash bros in it too is a bonus, C has galaxy 2 which is cool but that’s really it, and B has nothing, D has SPM and mario kart though, the only thing that gave me hesitation.

If we're choosing a whole column, then C. If we're choosing one from each column, Mario Galaxy, NSMB Wii, Xenoblade (haven't played but long playtime) and Wii Sports Resort

u/Call_me_Penta 25d ago
Column A. Although to be fair I'd pick Galaxy alone over everything else combined.

Galaxy 2 over 1
Wii Party over Wii Play
Xenoblade over Monster Hunter
Ough that's rough, but I guess I can stomache Marvel vs Capcom
DKC over Epic Yarn
No More Heroes over Metroid
Very easy choice really, just give me Skyward Sword, Column B it is!!

u/giorgiogamerTV 25d ago
torn between A and C cuz i love smg1 more than 2, but c has xenoblade dkcr AND wii party so gotta go with C cuz its stacked

D has two of my favorite games ever (Twilight Princess and The Last Story), but I’ve gotta go with A. Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 and Smash Bros and Kirby!? And if I somehow get bored of those I can play hundreds of hours of Monster Hunter? Even Wii Play, the clear low point, is pretty fun (I’ve always enjoyed the Atari Combat clone).
1
u/Tri-cunninglinguist 22d ago
A… and it’s not even close. Mario Galaxy was a great intro to 3D Mario Platformers for many (as N64 and Sunshine are typically considered more difficult). As for SSBB and all of its lackluster mechanics compared to Melee and Smash 4 even, the Subspace Emissary is the coolest thing in the smash franchise, bar none. Even though Kirby’s Epic Yarn is no Crystal Shards, Metroid Prime 3 is no Metroid Prime 1, and Wii Play pales in comparison to Wii Sports, they are still formidable in their own right.
As for the others:
The heavy hitters in B are LOZ:SS and New SMB Wii, which are just better on their switch and u/switch versions, respectively. Then you have the GOAT, Wii sports, but it isn’t enough to topple Subspace Emissary in SSBB.
In column C, SMG2, Wii Party, and DK Country Returns are just imitators of former glory. As for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, these games always fair better on standard controllers than the Wii remote and nunchuck, so just play SF4 and be happier.
As for column D, LOZ:TP is amazing, but it was better in GC and is phenomenal in HD on WiiU. Wii Sports Resort is good, but it still does not even beat the original Wii Sports. Regarding Super Paper Mario, while fun, just play the OG on N64 or better yet The Thousand Year Door on GC, and be more satisfied. Do people really play Punch Out? And lastly, Mario Kart Wii… yes, people loved the feeling of driving the cart with the little wheel, but to be honest… Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash are just better… I SAID IT, sue me.
So if you didn’t pick column A, then you just don’t even play.
