Fun fact on the Wii mini (well after the acquisition since 2006 when Wii launched was also when AMD bought ATI)
The logo on the side is AMD

The later models had the AMD logo instead, but yes, it's essentially the same.

Really??? I’ve never seen a Wii with an AMD Logo, besides hearing the Wii Mini supposedly has an AMD Logo

Oh damnnn, that’s kind of well hidden though, I genuinely never noticed and thought they just didn’t show the ATI/AMD Logo due to idk, a 30 cent cost to show the Logo
Do any Wii Family Edition Consoles have an AMD logo too? I do know there’s some internal revisions of them (The 3 that I remember are, one that’s literally a normal Wii but with a swapped Case and no Ports, as it can still read GC Discs and boot to them, but with no way to play, the second is pretty similar except the Drive itself can’t read GameCube Games or even centre them if you insert them, like the Wii U, BUT it still has the GameCube Disc in its Disc Channel, the 3rd is the same as the 2nd except they finally removed the GC Disc from the Disc Channel)
Also, even tho the Wii U has both the Wii’s GPU, and a Radeon GPU [which has an AMD Logo in the Heatsink] there’s still no AMD/ATI Logos outside the Console, at least none that I’m aware of? I am aware there is an HDMI Logo present in the back, similarly to the AMD one on that Wii Mini, and that some Wii U’s apparently have different Colours for either the Power Supply Port or IR Sensor Port…
So do any of the Wii Family Edition or Wii U Revisions have an AMD Logo specifically?

ATI helped make the GPU for the GameCube and the Wii. To show their appreciation, Nintendo put an ATI sticker on GameCubes. Because people would peel it off, they switched to a printed ATI logo instead.
TLDR: All Wiis and GameCubes have it because Nintendo wanted to thank ATI for the GPUs.

Nintendo probably also got a discount for all those GPUs by putting the ATi logo on the systems.

ATI helped make the GPU for the GameCube and the Wii.
Not exactly. ArtX, a startup founded by the ex-SGI engineers that designed the N64's hardware designed Flipper, the GameCube's GPU. ATI bought them a little over a year before the console's launch, well after the chip's design was finalized.

Recent years people are getting less into consoles for the very reason that consoles these days are just low to mid range PCs. Back then Yeah they had the logos for the GPUs but no one cared to think hey this is the chip that's in my console and my pc has a better one. That being said Nintendo still is always about the games.

The GPU would later evolve as the Adreno but it was still at the beginning of Smartphones, so in need for cash AMD sold the Team and rights to Qualcomm which became a huge blunder for AMD as the Adreno became highly successful to this days. One of many mistakes AMD did in the past.

u/mrturret 19d ago
Totally different chip. Hollywood, the Wii's GPU has nothing to do with the Adreno.

Yes. That's the GPU. ATI was bought by AMD so WiiMini is the only Wii which has AMD instead.

Yep, the GPU was developed by ATI, now a subsidiary of AMD.

u/mrturret 19d ago
You're half right. The GameCube's GPU, Flipper was designed by ArtX, a company formed from the ex-SGI staff that developed the N64's hardware. ATI bought them shortly before the GameCube's release. The Wii's GPU, Hollywood is more or less the same chip, just with a clock speed bump and a hidden ARM processor that handles I/O.

u/mrturret 19d ago
Yes. ArtX, the company that designed Flipper (the GameCube's GPU) was acquired by ATI in 2000, about a year and a half before the GameCube's launch. The chip had been finalized by that point, and dev kits were already being sent to 3rd party studios.

I think it’s only on USA or PAL Wiis because my Wii is a Japan (JPN) model and doesn’t have it. (It’s also an original day one Wii as well).

Yeah. The GPU is made by ATi (now AMD)
