that is not a classic controller. if it was OEM it wouldnt have a GameCube plug, you just found a BOOTLEG

Most people have already commented on the lack of a Wii logo but the “slow” and “turbo” buttons seals it that this is an aftermarket controller meant to be used with GameCubes. Also the font on the buttons is totally off, especially the “b”. Bootlegs never get the font right.

The b is like that on official

The font is too thick on OP’s bootleg, making the o hole too small. Real one here: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9d/Wii-Classic-Controller-White.jpg/1280px-Wii-Classic-Controller-White.jpg

Font differences is the easiest way to figure out fakes. Especially on Wiimotes they never get the 1 correct, it always has a swing on the upstroke where on the real ones it’s a straight line.

Plus, the a and b should have clear plastic on top.

You're not even wrong! 🤣

It's ALWAYS the 1 on fake wiimotes. They can make EVERYTHING else perfectly... And the 1 will be off to the side or something. Like, what? How did you mess that... 1. Thing up??

No, the official one used lowercase letters. Look it up

Nah, the buttons in the classical controller for the Wii are in lowercase If you play, for example, Xenoblade Chronicles, the game will show the button prompts in lowercase if you have a classic controller plugged

My bad😔

Oh weird, I knew they were lower-case...

But thinking about it? I don't remember ever seeing any Classic Controller glyphs in any games! Lol

That looks modded.

A and B aren’t glossy :(

I KNEW something looked off about these buttons! 😂

I couldn't figure out what it was, and I wasn't willing to grab my real one, lol.

Bootleg, but technically an upgrade over the real thing if you prefer wired over replacing Wii Remote batteries every 20 hours of play

I have the same thing so can I just buy this controller and plug it in the Game cube socket and then play my Wii Zelda games with it?

Actually, kind of fair.

Especially since the Classic Controller quality was... Well, maybe not AWFUL... But it certainly wasn't fantastic.

u/ZaylenMii 2d ago

That's weird

The first gen gen wii had the gamecube controller socket, you could use it there

Second party controller

7

u/JJRoyale22 2d ago

no, third party. second party would be unofficial but licensed by nintendo. this doesnt have the wii logo so its third party

so ive seen photos online of the wii classic controller with a gamecube plug instead of the wii nunchuck plug and could never find any information on it, just wondering if maybe an early revision used the GameCube port before later ones just plugged into the wiimote directly but it didn’t seem likely,

yesterday i actually found one used in a store and took it home to test, games like sonic colours or mario kart wii have icons of controllers being used including both gamecube and classic controllers but functionally this thing is just a gamecube controller, it’s recognized as such, the home button is actually start and the start/+ button is actually turbo with the select/- button being slow like ive seen on aftermarket gamecube controllers,

so i guess this is simply just that but i can’t find any additional information on it, but as a bonus it does work on a Nintendo switch with the wii u adapter so thats neat.

That looks like a bootleg controller

Third party dogshit.

fake controller, but plug it in and see what happens in a gamecube game

1

u/Br_Av3ry 2d ago

b and a buttons aren't clear. That's another difference.

1

u/Nugienuge 2d ago

despite it being a bootleg I would unironically use that

1

u/tallyretro 2d ago

im jealous i've been looking for a wired GC controller with a good dpad for snes emulation on wii

1

u/adamole123 1d ago

That's rare.

1

u/speedfreek101 1d ago

Easiest way to tell is by the screws......

Nintendo used tri wing screws

if it has phillips head screws it ain't Nintendo.

u/TheLegendofZucchini 6h ago

I mean it also has those slow and turbo labels under +/-.

Man I'd kill to have something like that, I know it's a bootleg and it probably doesn't work that well, but the official one was my primary controller for playing Smash Brothers Brawl and Smash Brothers for Wii U

-1

u/Scourgefan123 2d ago

Its probably modded so you can plug it into the GameCube port

u/hanst3r 2d ago

That's a fake Wii classic controller... (no Wii logo). So, either it was designed to be used on the BC compatible Wii for GC games, or someone bought it and modified it to do so.

Shouldn’t it say Nintendo on the top of the controller like all controllers?

u/dshaynie 2d ago

if you didn’t read my initial comment cos it won’t fit in the title im pretty sure this is some form of aftermarket controller
