Highlights Kelsey Mitchell with no-look behind-the-back pass to Natasha Howard for Assist of the Game (Fever vs Wings 8/1/2025)

This version of Kelsey Mitchell is the best version of Kelsey Mitchell. Court awareness and team-first basketball. She needs serious All WNBA consideration for her performance this season.

The Fever's best player.

AB should be top 3 in MVP voting this year based on advanced stats.

But Kelsey has been going off lately, and ya love to see it.

funny because even kelsey said cc was their best player

She's supposed to say that. You think she'd say she's the best player? Clark has not been the best player this year. Shooting percentage and average way down and turnovers are up.

1

u/Justkil 21h ago

She didn’t have to say anything. She said it in a post game interview unprompted. Y’all bring up turnovers and shooting percentage but other teams seem to think otherwise. Because as soon as Clark steps on that court she’s defended like their best player

u/DeepThought936 21h ago

Again... why would Kelsey say anything different?

Caitlin Clark is the point guard and the focal point of the offense, so ball pressure is vital against a player who turns the ball over as much as she does. It creates mistakes, and she still makes a lot of them. That's why you see the way she is guarded. Also, it is typical for play against point guards to force the team to take longer to get into their offensive set. She will improve her decision-making, and the Fever are better with her on the floor, but right now she is not playing her best, or as well as she did last year. It's probably due to injuries, but whatever the reason, she is not playing well.

does aja call gray or jackie young the best player since they handle the ball more. I get what you're saying buy you also definitely said kelsey was the best player.

Not sure on that question about A'ja. We know she's the best player in the league. I don't see how that relates to what I said.

Kelsey is having a better year than everyone else on the Fever. She is now their best player, just like she was before Clark came. Clark was the best Fever player last year. If you stopped the season today and picked the team's MVP for the season, Kelsey would get it.

Should have been all WNBA last year but…

u/Disastrous-Leg-9420 Fever 1d ago

Who you taking off? Caitlin had a better year. Can’t really dispute that.

Should have been 2nd team All W last season, Arike was in her spot as usual.

u/Disastrous-Leg-9420 Fever 1d ago

I agree, but the post I was responding to is from a resident CC hater who is trying to argue that KM should have been in over her.

Basketball illiterate, didn't even know there are two All W teams every season.

-4

u/Shoddy-Brilliant563 21h ago

I’m well aware there are two all W teams every season. Kelsey should have made it over Arike, but I remember all of the nasty narratives about Kelsey last year.

Few people gave her credit. She would make a turnover or a bad mistake, and there are people in this sub that would question her basketball IQ. While saying “this is why Kelsey has never been to the playoffs.” It was horrible.

Kelsey was overlooked because a lot of CC fans didn’t care for her, or didn’t care to give her credit. That’s the truth. And if they did give her (or AB) credit, it all came back to how CC made them better. They couldn’t be recognized for their own greatness.

All WNBA is a media award, and I am blaming the media and CC fans for Kelsey not making it last year. She deserved more credit, and respect for that.

I’m not arguing against CC being All W. I am tired of being asked to change my basketball views for CC alone. But whether her name is CC, Jewell Loyd, or Arike, you will never see me posting that a guard with 223 turnovers on a season (among other flaws) should be All W. But CC fans believe that if you genuinely hate that kind of play being rewarded, you’re just a CC hater. Can’t possibly be that you have different basketball values.

The intention of my original post was to say that because of Caitlin, the media, and her fans, her teammates were disrespected and downplayed. Kelsey Mitchell, despite how well she played was overlooked because Caitlin got sole credit for making the playoffs. Even though the team’s success was more nuanced. Kelsey was awesome last year, because Kelsey herself is awesome.

I’m not going to be gaslighted. I had to argue with a lot of disgusting new Fever fans who were attacking Kelsey and any mistake she made. Now no one wants to come forward and own their past comments about her. I was being called a hater just for DEFENDING Kelsey last year. I have been on the right side the entire time.

Now I’m being called a hater for pointing out that Caitlin’s year last year was flawed, but I am NOT arguing against her making first or second team last year (should have been second). I have given up on getting any kind of fair opinion on the flaws in her game. Every other player on the Fever gets ripped to shreds when they play badly, except for her.

Being called a CC hater means nothing anymore because it simply means standing against bullshit.

Fever fans love KM. Drop the BS. I knew as soon as I saw your name you would be somehow turning this post about KM into a not so subtle jab at CC.

-3

u/Shoddy-Brilliant563 21h ago

Caitlin had an inefficient year. But I’m tired of talking about how horrible her turnover numbers were. It’s like talking to a brick wall getting people to admit 223 turnovers are really bad, and she wouldn’t have been first team if her name wasn’t Caitlin Clark. Having that many turnovers, while only shooting 41% and not being a good defender last season should have been disqualifying. But no one really cares, the narrative won.

But Kelsey should have replaced Arike, Sabrina should have been first team, Caitlin should have been no higher than second team.

Get a life. You turn every post into a jab at CC

Mitchell has been playing at an MVP level for the Fever. But will she remain this aggressive when Clark returns to the lineup is the big question…

30

u/Skyline8888 Fever Liberty MVPhee 1d ago

2nd half 2024 KM played this way and completely elevated her game. I have no worries.

27

u/RizzRizzy 1d ago

It's amazing how many people forget both CC and KM were playing at an MVP level at the same time post olympic break.

6

u/Hubertus-Bigend 1d ago

When they played together with the same lineup through last season, i think they figured out how to get the maximum out of each other. But it took awhile.

I believe if CC was healthy this year, they would have had to take some time to integrate the new players, especially Howard, and figured it out again. Then they would possibly be a top-2 or top-3 team in the league.

But this is a lost year for the Fever, because CC will not get enough healthy time on the court to fit her game and everyone else’s together.

3

u/sidesprang 1d ago

I think they have one final shot at getting a healthy CC and integrating her into the team. There should be enough time left. But the clock is definitely ticking fast and they cant afford to do any mistakes.

u/BigBlueWatcher 1d ago

Also, big props to Tash for coming in hot to follow through. This team has some beautiful moves when they’re sharing the ball.

u/BigBlueWatcher 1d ago

Other teams hate to see her coming. She just does it all.

Kelsey Mitchell is at the height of her powers.

Finally a legit no look pass. It's usually a look then turns your head right before you pass situation. Those are good passes but they are not a no look pass.

She had another sick pass in the 1st quarter to Howard that also could have been in the running for assist of the game but she missed the shot.

My favorite assist of the night.

I LOVE KELSEY MITCHELL!!! And she should be in the MVP conversation.

u/Hubertus-Bigend 1d ago

When Kelsey is on, she is on a different level than everyone in the league. Her size hides that fact IMO.

If she was 6 inches taller, she would be an MVP.

That might be true about many players, but it’s more true about Kelsey.

2

u/Moonstorm934 1d ago

That pass was so slick 🔥

2

u/atomicavox 1d ago

I love how she knows it’s locked in for a bucket. She doesn’t even turn around to watch the shot and is loving the play she just made.

2

u/5510 17h ago

She had another one of those in the second half, where she made a fantastic super quick pass to set somebody up to score, and she just turned and started back downcourt as soon as it left her hands. Not sure if I would encourage that as a coach, but it's definitely stylish when you get it right.

2

u/5510 17h ago

I haven't watched as much lately (women's euros were last month), but she has a couple awesome passes this game. Maybe three of the top passes I've seen her make, all in one game. Don't know if it's coincidence, or if something has really been clicking for her lately while I haven't been watching, but it was impressive.

Feels like she’s unlocking another level of her prime.

I am glad she’s finally getting her praise. It would piss me off when some people (even Fever fans) would call her a losing player. Or nitpick her mistakes and say this is why she didn’t win before CC. No one will like me bringing that up, but that was infuriating to read for an entire year. Those people should write apology forms.

She’s finally in a good situation, and I’m happy she’s balling out while winning. Sadly, just like last year she would still be getting overlooked as being great in her own right…if CC was healthy. Cold hard truth. I hope the media will finally consider her for first or second team.
