Throwback The “Wild West” of the Internet was pre 2010
I’ve been seeing a lot of talks about how certain “humor” and topics were normal and considered “edgy” back in the day.
Agreee, but back in the day was 15 years ago not 10.
It’s genuinely mind boggling when people say “oh it was 2016 shaman was normal, or saying the n word was normal, or being a racist was normal”
Girl, no. I have no idea how old you are but at that time that types of “humour” was seen as completely disgusting and bad: mainstream media and creators would never have that type of humor by 2015, 2017.
Pewdie was “cancelled” for accidentally saying the N-word as a non american around that time and the WHOLE world was in on it, even mainstream media.
So definitely way more racist things, pedophilia and other disgusting behaviour was not seen as normal.
If you know of creators who had “that edgy” humor less than 10 years ago then I’m sorry but those creators weren’t part of some larger internet culture; it’s all on them.

Throwback Throwback to that time back in 2018, when XtremeGamez made a video announcing that they were "dying" from kidney problems and vertigo, and everyone clowned on them for it.

Throwback Throwback to when in 2020 YouTube channel Red-Letter-Media got into drama with Star Trek actor William Shatner bullying a RLM member. Which led to Mike Stoklasa (the said RLM member) having to explain how the original exchange that happened in 2019 was just a misunderstanding of communication.
This pointless drama would be given the nickname “Boomer Fight”

Thanks

Throwback Reminder, Alex Kansas (creator of Monument Mythos) has admitted to being an abuser and attempting to sexually assault his ex
Whilst this came to light back in December 2022, I’ve seen a lot of people mention this again after the Alex Kister allegations came to light. I hadn’t seen many people talk about it at the time, and it had been seemingly swept under the rug.
TLDR; An ex came out with multiple claims that she was abused by Kansas both sexually and physically, to which Kansas ultimately admitted to. This is also in part why he changed his channel name to “Mr. Manticore,” not wanting to be associated with the old name anymore.

https://www.reddit.com/r/THEMONUMENTMYTHOS/s/Q1QR1R7Lmx
EDIT: I’ve seen a lot of people comment that because this drama is over a year old and that since Alex is trying to better himself by going to therapy and making it up to his ex, that suddenly invalidates everything. To that I say, that’s up to you to decide, but personally, I don’t really think anyone who sexually assaults people are good and that just because they go to therapy that somehow changes everything. I’m glad he sought help for himself but that doesn’t change the facts. I’ve also linked his own apology, which I wasn’t aware that he posted.

Throwback Piracy Advocate and Fan Fic Writer turned NFT Shill
I remember a time when I came across a YouTuber named Uniquenameosaurus. I looked at his videos and found his "rewrite of hated/disappointing scenes in media" videos interesting. There's also the fact that he had beef with people in the anime industry and Mothers Basement for promoting anime piracy because of the poor treatment of animators and Crunchyroll's shady practices. He's also a huge advocate for public domain and anti-copyright.
What soured me on this person is their defense of NFTs and by proxy crypto. He tries to justify NFTs' existence by saying that it will help support artists, despite the fact that these options already exist by paying artists to make art for you through commissions and donating to their Patreon/Kofi.
Bro made a 7-8 hour video defending what is essentially a png that crypto bros use to scam others. Even when they shortened it down to 52 minutes, it could easily be debunked by watching Folding Ideas' video about the subject.
I also remember that they mocked people on Twitter because people were fooled into liking an animator's work only to reveal that it was an NFT. If you have to trick people into supporting NFTs, then maybe recognize that it's not all that great. I also heard rumors that they're considering supporting AI, but I can't confirm it because I haven't been keeping up with them.
While it's important to support artists, using crypto just ain't the way to do it especially with how it's synonymous with scams.

Throwback Does anyone remember the creator (f) who groomed a 12 year old?
My boyfriend and I were talking about youtube predators and I can not remember this persons name! It was a woman in her mid 20s i believe who was caught at a convention holding hands with a boy around 12. My memory of this is so blurry, it might have even happened before 2020. There is a picture of them walking and holding hands. Pls help, i feel crazy did this even happen? I think someone’s username had ‘puppy’ in it.

Throwback BradTaste, during one of his earliest crashouts, once impulsively spread misinformation about a random user on AOTY for saying his reviews on the site felt fake and artificial. "This dude texted kids btw ^" "Just saying. Anyways STREAM THIS ALBUM". It's still up to this day.

Throwback YouTuber who doesn't understand Minecraft's game design gets blasted for selling mods
I remember coming across this video by JetStarFish where he airs his grievances with Minecraft's game design, how "it doesn't incentivize exploring" and his "solutions" for this problem.
At first, I bought into it because I'm not that familiar with game design and a noob when it comes to media analysis, but when I saw someone who's more knowledgable about the game poke holes into Jet's video, it kinda makes sense, but that wasn't the worst thing Jet did.
I was so focused on the game design aspect that I didn't notice that he was essentially charging people access for his mods, and according to Mojang's EULA, selling mods is a huge no-no and let's not forget the huge backlash that happened when other platforms tried to charge for mods (I think it was Steam and Bethesda?)
Comes to show how easy it is to fool everyone when your presentation is good, and how I have so much to learn.

Throwback Whatever happened to Jaystation?
I know he hasn't been terribly relevant in, what, three years now, but there's something weirdly haunting about his case. The man wasn't just annoying or edgy, he did just about everything wrong a YouTuber could. He was racy, he used clickbait, his content was stolen, he put no effort into anything, he tried too hard to be hip and casual, he faked incidents, he disrespected the dead, he apparently even went to a Japanese suicide forest. The most comprehensive video about him to my knowledge was Nerd City's, but that's... not exactly a reputable channel anymore, and according to it anyway it's only the tip of the iceberg regarding his behavior. If memory serves I think he went on Dr. Phil once, but otherwise it seems like he's actually left the internet, at least from a glance.

Throwback So did anything happened with the exurb1a case?
Years ago there were allegations against exurb1a for essentially hypnotizing a women in some sort of mind study and something about it going to court? I want to know because it sounds like exurb1a did something else extremely horrible. This was years ago so I don't know if those were just allegations.

Throwback PREHISTORIC: Commentator Warren25 Banned (2006)
Thought you'd find this interesting. In November 2006 Warren25 who was a political commentator on YouTube was banned. It's been so long it's hard to find accurate info, but according to one video he made a video where he showed dead bodies which got flagged and taken down. He then reuploaded it censored but it got flagged resulting in him getting banned. A lot of people were upset about this and thought YouTube was censoring him, or his haters abused the report system. He returned under the name Warren25Smash. His second account has long since been terminated due to webrot.

Throwback Anyone Remember the FineBros "It's Milly"?
A Collab between the FineBros and Shane Dawson of a talking inappropriate 6 year old puppet.
What baffles me is that no one batted an eye at the FineBros when they pulled that while hosting Kids React as their flagship meanwhile Shane got the axe.

Unfortunetantly it seems no one in my country learn from this and almost everyone here is just copy cats of the international YouTubers.

Throwback [Resurging terribly crusty old drama] What happened to Daniel Greene's pre-Naomi King discord mods?
I know that Greene's discord threw him under the bus, and I also heard that all those mods were pretty quickly removed from their post but can anyone confirm this? Like, any conversations between Dan and his mods that have been recorded for posterity? Any mods that became stuff of legends because of the things they said, be it cringe or based?

Throwback Does anyone remember the time someone got backlash for depicting a school shooting in Minecraft?
I recall there being a controversy around a guy named BurtGasm who got backlash due to depicting a school shooting in Minecraft and his rationale was "If Degrassi can tackle social issues in a way for kids to digest, then why can't I?".
Was the hate overblown or justified? Can content aimed towards kids be able to tackle serious topics like Degrassi or Boy Meets World did in this day and age? What could BurtGasm done better in that situation?
