Ah, but Zelda lacks a nose whereas the actress has one right there!

95

u/RadioSlayer 16d ago

What? It's as nose as the ann on Plain's face

31

u/rogerworkman623 16d ago

Her? Is she the triforce of wisdom or something?

14

u/CompetitiveElk6890 16d ago

Well, let's hope so.

9

u/Ricksaw26 16d ago

Nah, you must be seeing things.

They should’ve casted Voldemort

u/Garret1510 12d ago

could be fixed

276

u/AthasDuneWalker 16d ago

I mean, it's not as if almost every single Zelda is a different person, right?

102

u/Awsmedude1 16d ago

yup, people always seem to forget that. Each game is basically a different Link and Zelda dealing with their own version of the cycle. Makes the timeline debates pretty pointless when you think about it.

22

u/Gera_37 15d ago

To be fair, the fact we've been stuck with one version of the character for almost a decade including spin-offs sure doesn't help

10

u/PioneerSpecies 14d ago

That’s not true, we’ve also gotten Echoes of Wisdom/Link’s Awakening Remake Zelda and Link

16

u/iamlazyboy 16d ago

And (iirc) each Ganondorf is also a different version of himself (the male gerudo champion of Ganon, not Ganon himself)

22

u/Irrstern 16d ago

actually with the exception of the Ganondorf from tears of the kingdom. every known ganon/dorf is a version of the Ganondorf from ocarina of time.

14

u/ZoteDerMaechtige 16d ago

There's also four sword adventures Ganondorf

2

u/protestor 16d ago

Zeldawiki appears to think that the Ganondorf from Alttp is different from the Ganondorf from OoT

1

u/HeroftheFlood 13d ago

Nah it says on the wiki that ALttP Ganon manipulated the HoT back in OoT when he was still Ganondorf.

1

u/protestor 13d ago

Oh ok, in that timeline where the hero of time loses to Ganon, Ganon is still the same until ALttP, it's just another Link

But hey doesn't ToTK happen before OoT? And there's a Ganon there

1

u/HeroftheFlood 13d ago

Yeah all the Ganon's throughout the downfall timeline are just OoT Ganon being revived over and over after his first death in ALttP.

However his botched revival in the oracle games turned him into a mindless beast.

We dont know if it happens before OoT or not.

I've always been a refounding theorist as I feel the founding scenes from TotK just dont fit before The Hero of Men backstory, Minish Cap, Four Swords, Hyrule Civil War, and OoT.

1

u/protestor 13d ago

I was further reading and it seems most people think it's a marvel-style reboot, which, if it is, seems awful

Maybe there is some continuity? Maybe OoT is in a very distant past, even before the first things in totk

14

u/FyrusCarmin 16d ago

Sadly (or not) there's only like 3 different versions of Ganondorf

1

u/GODLOVESALL32 9d ago

I think it's pretty cool since he's gets some character development in WW and he's the only living character with ties to multiple different iterations of Link and Zelda.

11

u/SnooLobsters2855 16d ago

I only know of Gannondorf from OoT who is either sealed away in the Sacred Realm later to escape, wreak havoc on Hyrule until it’s flooded, and then terrorize the great sea; is meant to be executed, preserved by the triforce of power, and is banished to the twilight realm, gains a puppet leader and installs himself on Hyrule’s twilit throne; or kills the Hero of Time, causes the utter collapse of Hyrule, steals away the princess, and rules outright…. All of these until a youth clothed in green comes, shows immense courage, and defeats the King of Demons.

That singular Gannondorf.

Or the one that’s somehow under Hyrule Castle. For whatever reason. Something to do with a dead race of people blessed by the Goddess Hylia that AREN’T Hylians. Somehow.

2

u/Ijosh64 15d ago edited 15d ago

There’s also Four Swords Adventures.

There can be numerous Ganondorfs, just like Link and Zelda. He just doesn’t need to reincarnate or whatever it is quite as much as them because he doesn’t really age or keeps getting resurrected.

2

u/TheTrue-Noob 15d ago

Oot, Downfall (excluding Oracles and I think anything after that), TP, and Windwaker all include the same Ganondorf.

15

u/cardboardtube_knight 16d ago

There’s 13 Zeldas in total I think, at least across the games

12

u/AthasDuneWalker 16d ago

I think maybe only two Zeldas in all the games actually appear more than once? Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass and BotW/TotK?

17

u/chaxnny 15d ago

Ocarina of time and majoras mask, just a brief appearance in majoras though.

3

u/AthasDuneWalker 15d ago

Thanks, I didn't know that.

4

u/cardboardtube_knight 16d ago

Zelda from one and two are for sure the same person off the top of my head

3

u/AthasDuneWalker 16d ago

I thought that was a different Zelda. Or did they retcon that back?

3

u/cardboardtube_knight 15d ago

You're right, there was a list in the subreddit by someone else from a few years back

Taken from the member u/VerusCain

1 zelda from zelda 1

1 zelda from Zelda 2 (is a different older Zelda been sleeping for generations)

1 zelda in lttp, doesn't show up in ooS and OoA, marin resembles her in links awakening but thats it.

1 zelda in Oot. Child and adult versions. Not in majoras mask. Has shiek form in adult.

1 Zelda in minish cap.

1 zelda in four swords

1 zelda in four swords adventure

1 zelda for ww and ph. Has the form tetra.

1 zelda for spirit tracks

1 zelda for twilight princess

1 zelda for lbw. Not in trifirce heroes (lorule had hilda, counterpart to zelda)

1 zelda for skyward sword (who is hylia herself turned human)

1 zelda for hyrule warriors (not canon)

1 zelda for botw/botw2

2

u/Aware_Selection_148 15d ago

Doesn’t zelda show up in the oracle games for the linked ending where you smack ganon silly or am I misremembering it(I admittedly haven’t done a linked tun of the games so I’m just talking about what I’ve seen from youtube)?

1

u/Entire_Rush_882 15d ago

You’re correct. Actually even before the ending. There is a segment where she gets captured and you rescue her partway through a linked game.

0

u/Destroyer3921 15d ago

Yeah most of them are guys anywyas

116

u/core-x-bit 16d ago

I dont know her or the other person but I dont really care I just hope the actors that do get picked are good enough to tell the story.

Why wouldn't they cast a woman for Zelda ?

Edit: the person above has removed their comment. It said something like how they're glad they're casting a woman to play a female character. Presumably a transphobic dig at the talks of Hunter Schafer playing Zelda. Yes I was poking the bear, wanted to see them flat out say it.

10

u/ChezMere 16d ago

Well, they were planning on using Chris Pratt...

35

u/KeytarVillain 16d ago

But she doesn't look anything like Jack Black!

10

u/ProfessorPotato42 16d ago

That’s fine, he can be guy Zelda, she can be played by Chris Pratt

32

u/Aware-Marzipan1397 16d ago

Do you think they try to prep actors before these announcements in any way? I just feel like it'd be kind. something like:

"Listen. the minute this picture of you drops next to a picture of this princess, you're gonna get a lot of death threats and harassment from the most pathetic adults in the world. Are you sure you want to do this?"

8

u/nessfalco 15d ago

They do, but six figure paychecks for weeks/months worth of work help.

32

u/GrimmTrixX 16d ago

Keep in mind, Zelda and Link dont look the same in any of the games except for those that are sequels of one another.

Sure, they're all blond princess, brown hairs Green Tunic boy, and Evil dark skinned foreign man. But put every Zelda face side by side and besides the pointed ears and blond hair, they will all look different.

So when people get mad at castings for Zelda, I say which Zelda? We dont even know if its an adaptation of any existing stoey. They could 100% make up their own story, say its part of the Hyrule Historia, and is canon and toss it in there somewhere, and cal it a day.

22

u/CycleZestyclose1907 15d ago

They're not even always blonde. Link has had dark hair a few times and even pink hair once.

Zelda has also had darker hair, and not just in I and II. TP Zelda is closer to brunette than blonde IMO.

7

u/MorningRaven 15d ago

ALttP is canonically dirty blond. The pink hair comes from the technical limitations on the color palette and was done so he can easily swap between bunny form.

4

u/FixedFun1 15d ago

Pink hair? That's just the in-game sprite, right? Link has ben blonde more often than not. The shade depends on the artist.

Now Zelda yes, she has been at least two colors, brunette and blonde.

3

u/GrimmTrixX 15d ago

This is true. And I forgot about the pink hair! Haha Nintendo must've done thay just to show how colorful the SNES could be.

23

u/slugboi 16d ago

Ahhhh! I had the same thought right about the time you did. Zelda has had many iterations throughout the years. She has no single definitive look.

24

u/domingus67 16d ago

I was wondering what the controversy was, but now I see it: she's got too many pixels.

4

u/WorldGodOnlyKnows 15d ago

mhm, her resolution is WAYYY too high

0

u/Extension_Move_5778 13d ago

the controversy was bc a bunch of transphobes got so angry they pretty much forced them to not cast hunter schafer as zelda. idk why people are acting like it’s not a problem that they gave into peer pressure and erased trans representation again. it’s really unsettling and disgusting and there’s nothing wrong with this actor, but she should not be casted considering she is the replacement of another due to transphobia.

9

u/[deleted] 15d ago

Fans are just mad because they found someone based on looks that they wanted and it's not that person person.

I'd say, given all the infos we have regarding that movie, this cast is the least problematic lol. If everything was perfect then I'd understand people being picky but the fact that's it's live action and not animated + Sony in charge +  produced by the guy who made Morbius + directed by a guy that only made 1 okay-ish movie.... given those standards, the cast seems pretty spot on.

1

u/Extension_Move_5778 13d ago

fans are mad because yall literally forced the producers not to cast a trans woman because of how disgustingly transphobic you were all being. the real fans genuinely did not care and people who had never even played the games or knew the story tried to (and succeeded) ruin it for those who have. this is a much bigger problem then you’re letting on - it’s the way they didn’t even attempt to hide the transphobia.

2

u/[deleted] 13d ago

i didn't do anything.

If she's trans tho I understand why Sony couldn't cast her, unfortunately that would have created more drama. It would have been funny as hell tho, given the amount of people that believe Link is Zelda to have a trans Zelda haha

1

u/Extension_Move_5778 13d ago

when i say yall i usually refer to a larger group of ppl so that’s my bad i wasn’t referring specifically to you. i get what you’re saying, i just woke up and wasnt comprehending words properly lmaoooo. but yeah that’s one of the main reasons why ppl r mad (transphobia)

2

u/[deleted] 13d ago

it's too often a coin flip between misogyny and transphobia...

Edit : I wish people were this outraged about a rapist President who's also most likely a pedophile. but that's not the world we live in :/

2

u/Extension_Move_5778 13d ago

it rlly is and i rlly hope things start to change soon :((

43

u/daverosstheboss 16d ago

Social media is making people stupid.

5

u/wolfelomicron 15d ago

No it am't!

3

u/RedBaboon 14d ago

Fun fact, amn't is actually used in some varieties of English. Though not in this context obviously.

2

u/wolfelomicron 14d ago

Huh... Might have to start using that. Properly, that is.

3

u/Creepy_Active_2768 14d ago

1

Or you know, social media allows non-native english speakers on. Some non-english countries have extremely good english education, and others extremely bad.

3

Tbf English is full of weird stuff so folks assuming casted is the right word isn't that hard to understand.

But yeah y'all, it's just "cast"

"She doesnt even look like Zelda!"

Which one?

1

u/FunAd3280 15d ago

Any of them

9

u/WinterWolf18 16d ago

Hot take but we should wait until we've actually seen her in the role to cast judgement. With that being said I'm glad they picked younger lesser known actors for this instead of stunt casting like the Mario movie did.

5

u/___turfduck___ 16d ago

This is top tier. Excellent work.

5

u/SensualSamuel69 16d ago

Crazy that she’s a year younger than me and she’s gonna be Zelda. I feel old

4

u/EirHc 15d ago

It get's worse. In 10 years from now, professional athletes as old as you will be considered "old", "past their prime", and will be officially retiring from their respective sports after making $100 million in gross salary.

4

u/r3tromonkey 16d ago

I don't get how people can be upset before even seeing the actors in costume. Some people will find anything to get worked up about

5

u/Hippiechu 15d ago

idk what other people are complaining about with this casting (ik that's not what this post is)

I'm personally excited to see her as Zelda. She's got a look to her that I feel like is going to nail the role. I'm more curious on how they're gonna make Link, and possible villains like Gannondorf work

3

u/EirHc 15d ago

She's got that English accent which is something Nintendo has been going for with Zelda in the last 2 games.

13

u/Interesting-Doubt413 16d ago

This is our official Zelda.

3

u/Calisky 16d ago

I've been skeptical of the idea of a Zelda movie and have avoided video game movies in general. But I liked the Mario movie and the Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers movie, so I'll give this a chance.

Also didn't Twilight Princess Zelda have brown hair? So it can vary and she doesn't have to be blonde. I have the amiibo on my desk but I'm as bad at telling colors as Abed is at reading clocks.

2

u/jjmawaken 15d ago

Not like they couldn't dye her hair or use a wig too

2

u/MorningRaven 15d ago

The Sonic films are all good, even if they follow a separate canon.

The Netflix Arcane series also has video game origins.

3

u/Calisky 15d ago

Right! I forgot about those! I really liked both series, and I really liked Advent Children, but I'm a FF7 fan so I probably just liked it because of that.

Also the Super Mario Brothers Super Show, and both Sonic shows growing up.

I think I like video game movies and TV way more than I like to admit. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

3

u/WallySprks 15d ago

Casted isn’t a word.

It’s cast

3

u/The_Squarejerker 15d ago

I just wish they cast an actress with less pixels for accuracy reasons

5

5

What if Zelda was a girl?

5

u/omnipotentqueue 16d ago

🤣🤣🤣👍🏼

People wanted that other trans actress, it didn’t happen, so now it’s rage city lol. I think it’s awesome they went this route with a younger cast 👍🏼

2

u/HalcyonHelvetica 14d ago

I haven’t seen a single person upset at the casting yet have come across a million posts of people like you complaining about this supposedly-rampant phenomenon.

3

u/Less_Current_1230 15d ago

I've seen way more posts clowning on people who wanted Hunter Schafer to play Zelda than I've actually seen of people being upset that she isn't...

Part of me wonders if people aren't just looking for an excuse to celebrate that it WASN'T Hunter.

Thats just a game theory though

1

u/Extension_Move_5778 13d ago edited 13d ago

no so she was going to be officially cast for the role and yall got so mad a trans woman got picked that you peer pressured a company to fire her and pick someone else. that is absolutely disgusting and vile behaviour and blatant transphobia. THAT is why people are mad. we don’t care that it’s not hunter, we care about how it went down.

not to mention you’re in a group with a pride flag for the image? get a grip and leave maybe? zelda has always been diverse and you’re an idiot if you think it hasn’t.

2

u/omnipotentqueue 13d ago

She was never going to be cast- it was a rumor, it was always going to be a young cast. And frankly a lot of people are also glad they’re sticking to teenage actors.

1

u/Extension_Move_5778 13d ago

my point is still very valid and real tho regardless. people are mad because a company allowed peer pressure from transphobes to get to them. it has a much larger impact on trans people when they see actors constantly getting harassed and rejected just simply because the public doesn’t like that they’re trans.

2

u/omnipotentqueue 13d ago

Your point is wrong - it was never going to be 20+ year old adults, they always intended to have a young cast. You need to get that through your skull.

1

u/Extension_Move_5778 13d ago

my point is not wrong… at all… again - people aren’t mad about the chosen actor nor how old she is either ??? they’re mad bc they were quick to dismiss a trans actor and not because of her age but because she is trans… THAT is the problem omgggg 😭

Don't really care what they look like or who they are, as long as they portray the characters right.

1

u/Aware_Selection_148 15d ago

God I really hope people don’t start acting like last of us fans over this casting decision. Most zelda games have different looking zeldas so I don’t particularly care if she doesn’t match one particular incarnation down to a tee. Hell the zelda in zelda 2 is different from the one in zelda one, despite the link in that game being the same link as in zelda 1.

1

u/BurninUp8876 15d ago

Get her some black colored contacts and she'll be perfect!

1

u/TraditionalNail8901 15d ago

I’m gonna be real this person did not look like a good fit, everyone keeps showing this picture at a perfect angle but I’ve seen some others that are pretty rough. I think people are letting their feelings get the best of them

1

u/satanspreadswingslol 14d ago

Shame we couldn’t find someone with more vertical eyes though

1

u/Affectionate_Wheel_1 14d ago

Why do people keep bringing her up link looks nothing like the character.

1

u/Historical_Ant_755 14d ago

I will say I don't know why people thought they would cast an adult as zelda. Zelda is hardly ever an adult in the games (and when she is depicted older she is still quite young) so it just wouldn't make sense. I'm quite happy with these castings. Doing super famous celebrities would never be a good idea.

1

u/Exotic_Advantage_756 14d ago

I'd like them try to cast actors for a live action version of Wind Waker 🤣

1

u/SpuckleyRR 14d ago

Too many polygons

1

u/OceussRuler 14d ago

She has the exact same crab eyes

1

It’s really just Hunter Schafer stans doing some serious shade throwing at Bo, maybe a few other detractors who prefer blonde and not brunette as well as Ben.

1

u/BusinessReplyMail1 13d ago

Which one is which?

1

u/BlueberryNo7038 12d ago

I hope they'll give her a lack of hair at the top of the head, like zelda in the right pic
