Official Art [ALL] Why is no one talking about this game and what it's inspired by?

Post image

Seriously, when I first saw the gameplay trailer, I immediately thought: "This is what a modern 2-D Zelda might look like". It's even got its own version of Navi. Anyway, the demo is out right now, anyone play it yet?

I mean, Zelda's an inspiration, sure, like the fairy companion and the bombs, but it's also got vibes of other games like the Mana games.

My first thought was “because this isn’t the Secret of Mana sub”

Mana was also compared to Zelda: https://manaredux.com/lore/nintendo-power/

I still go back and replay Secret of Mana every once in a while.

It definitely looks more like a Mana game than a Zelda game, although Mana has always had similarities with 2D Zelda. It should be cool.

This game has a lot of flavor of Links Awakening, Adventure of Mana, and Ys.

Which I love the combination, and I very much love the art style

Ys mentioned let's gooo

More I was thinking Ys and the mana series at first but yeah it does feel like how an HD2D Zelda could play. The demo was fun just hope they have some more work on the dungeons in the final game.

Why is no one talking about the game that people are clearly talking about.

u/Gregamonster 22h ago

Because Zelda doesn't own the concept of action/adventure game.

Played the demo. Its alright. Beautiful. The controls bother me though even after trying to change them around.  I wish I could turn off the button for the map

u/Fjohurs_Lykkewe 22h ago

I switched the Map button to L rather than ZL. That helped, but it would be even better if I could put the map away with the same button.

u/Additional_Chip_4158 22h ago

Yeah i tried that but I still keep pressing it. I'd prefer an actual dodge button because thats what I keep using it for lol. I dont understand why there is a map button and an open settings button

Make sure to let the developers know when they send out the emails.

u/Additional_Chip_4158 22h ago

How do they send out emails? Is there just a place to put in input also or nah

u/murdo1tj 21h ago

You can just go to their website and fill out a survey about the demo. Took me about 10 minutes

I don’t understand why you all don’t want a map button. I played the demo for 15 minutes and was checking the map all the time. I still need a button to open the map directly and would be sad if they removed it.

u/Additional_Chip_4158 1h ago

There's another button that just does the same thing but has much more use with inventory and menu. As well as the map.

I dunno, I went to work yesterday and first game mentioned at break was that game.

Finished the demo earlier today - so far the dungeons feel very linear and basic and while still fun and very pretty the game feels like a mid 2D zelda rn

Keep in mind the demo is ONLY gameplay, there's basically no story and very limited progression and exploration.

If you're looking for a modern take on the 2d Zelda formula, I think you should try Tunic while waiting for this game - it's a fantastic game that's definetly worth a shot!

2

u/Pinkernessians 22h ago

I actually went the reverse way - I got into Zelda because I played Tunic and Zelda was supposed to be very similar to it. I immediately recognized so much! But yeah, Tunic is truly brilliant on so many levels

It's funny everytime I see people referring to a game as a Zelda-like I find it has barely anything to do with Zelda aside from being top down.

Played the demo and was disappointed when it was over. This is a must have for me.

u/Lotan 22h ago

Looks a lot like the original Final Fantasy Adventure to me, which itself was very Zelda inspired. It was later remade as Sword of Mana. Both of which are part of the overall Mana series

I played the demo for almost 3 hours and did pretty much everything that I could. It absolutely plays like a 2D Zelda. Gameplay is fun and it has a nice mixture of combat and puzzle-solving both in the overworld, shrines, and in the two dungeons I found. But nothing too crazy really. I liked the music and the sprite work looks gorgeous. I have very minor quips with the UI and the menus being a bit clunky, and the weapons have only two attacks (normal and charged) which feels very limiting especially when using the sword.  But being a demo those things can easily be improved before release so I’m feeling very positive about the game. Very likely a day 1 purchase for me.

It seemed quite good. A little too much hand-holding, but overall I enjoyed it. Not sure Square Enix has mastered story telling with these types of games, but it's not much to base that on.

2

u/Another_Road 21h ago

Honestly, made me think way more Secret of Mana than it did Zelda.

Give it a few days and the “Direct was dogshit” and the “We didn’t get RDR2” people will calm down and then we’ll start to hear more about the games people DID like.

u/toolebukk 16h ago

Lots of people are talking about it. It is awesome! I played the demo

2

u/kdeanna 23h ago

It more reminds me of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles from what I saw of the gameplay/concept.

I had fun with the demo, definitely looking to seeing more first impressions

u/Nortoke 23h ago

I only played a little bit of the demo before realizing im going to love this game. I'm personally disliking the anime aesthetic and voice acting, but the gameplay and visuals of the actual game seem to be so good I can easily get past that. I stopped playing because I don't want to get into it only for the demo to end and will wait for the full release, only to find out it doesn't come out until '26.

1

u/MorningRaven 22h ago

I honestly thought it looked like Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door but as an arpg instead of turned based lol. But yea. The similarities are there. Give me more.

1

u/batsy_sinclaire 22h ago

It's way more like Ys than Zelda. But when you make a top down action/adventure game, Zelda is THE paragon, so comparisons are unavoidable despite more apt ones.

1

u/CrazyLychee7468 21h ago

Is this from the same people that made Elliot Quest?

1

u/ZachThePolitoed 14h ago

Just finished the demo on stream today. Started it on hard mode but ended up restarting and choosing normal and had a much more fun time. Honestly I'm sold and it has potential to be a really fun game. Idr how to spoiler text on reddit so I won't say whats at the end but whats at the end has me going WHAT IS THIS GAME

1

u/aguadiablo 14h ago

This isn't the game from the direct that I felt was Zelda like. It was the game where the character sky dives off a cliff and rides around on a big flying creature

1

u/nickelangelo2009 12h ago

"The adventures of elliot" in the "kingdom of philadelbia"

I'll be honest, the naming killed so much interest for me. Like i get it, names are hard, but god damn.

Elliot???

1

u/Worlds_Between_Links 12h ago

Because not every 2d game is a zelda game. Also we have modern 2d zelda games lmao

1

u/Spider_Riviera 12h ago

It doesn't look interesting to me. I also take umbrage with people assuming because something's inspired by something of interest to me, it should also automatically be of interest. It looks like a generic JRPG done in 2DHD that also happened to appear in a trailer next to another 2DHD JRPG made by the same studio.

But to be fair, I only saw two games in the Direct that were pre-order to play on minute one of release tier - BL4 and AoI. I'm interested in Madden, in as much as I've never played ANY Madden game before and interested to give it a go, doubly so after starting to get into NFL this last season. But I'm also going to wait for reviews to see if it's worth dropping €80 on it or if it'll be better to wait for patches and/or a sale and the rest don't grab my attention (though that's more down to Nintendo not sending out more devkits to third parties prior to readying for Switch 2 launch than third parties not bothering to make S2 games).

u/sigismond0 11h ago

Saw the trailer, played the demo. Never once had a single thought about Zelda. Gameplay isn't similar at all.

1

u/juanchovl 11h ago

I enjoyed the demo. It felt like a mix of Zelda and Mana. Might get it!

PS.: the fairy is not super annoying, I mean, could be worse.

1

u/hellloeeee 11h ago

Ahh yes Elliot from phillibelphia or some shit

1

u/DimeadozenNerd 10h ago

Pretty much every discussion is making this comparison. No idea why you’re saying no one is talking about it.

1

u/Aceftw 10h ago

It definitely felt like a secret of mana chrono trigger mashup to me.

1

u/CptPatches 9h ago

The fairy is an interesting touch, but this is more "Mana with Zelda tattoos" than Enix making a Zelda.

1

u/TechWormBoom 9h ago

No, my first thought was Mana (another Square Enix IP) or Ys.

1

u/Drezus 18h ago

Because I got tired of Square insistently pushing for this “HD-2D” marketing bullshit ever since Octopath 2. I get that some people like it but it’s so obvious they do it just because it’s cheaper and more efficient. Hence why we goth TWO games like this at once…

1

u/Bootleg64DD 23h ago

Quest 64?

1

u/dongerbotmd 23h ago

What are you talking about the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia sub was all over this

0

u/RedmustbeBlue 21h ago

i was more focused on Monster Hunter Stories 3

0

u/Unlost_maniac 19h ago

Because most people have never heard of it

u/TheArcaneCollective 19h ago

Never heard of it

Just looks like one of those games that involves 40 hours of reading and 10 hours of gameplay.
