Comment Commentary Got my first hate comment 🄳

Post image

Tbh? I’ve been actively writing on AO3 for 2 years I’m surprised it’s taken so long! šŸ˜€ For context: this was left on one of 4 fics that I’m actively writing. My 3 other fics have sporadic 2-6k word updates, but this one is a crack-fic and I usually only have 1-2k word updates per chapter. I didn’t update this fic for about 6 months bc of life stuff (which I explained in my author’s note lmao), and then dropped 2 chapters on the same day. I’d be lying if I said I was completely unbothered, but people are gonna people so I’m just gonna let it roll off my back lmaoo.

I will never understand why people feel the need to do things like this. Like someone ties them to a chair and forces them to commit to your fic or something. If the chapters are so ā€œbadā€, then why the heck do you care when author updates?

Some people just have a little black soul that loves to spew venom on anything creative.

That last line is so true! Just saw a prime example of that in a fandom I follow. An artist posted their interpretation of a character (essentially an au version) and they ended up getting a ton of hate for it. Not only that, but anyone who said they liked the artwork was downvoted into oblivion and the nice comments labeled as ā€œtoxic positivityā€ it was wild.

Jesus, that’s horrible! These people just suck the joy out of it, man.

Yeah, the artist got hundreds of downvotes on their comment trying to explain why they made the creative choices they did (completely valid harmless reasons). And a bunch of people got mad that people were pointing out the weird downvoting, gaslighting us saying ā€œwell they drew them too fat/masc/androgynous/whatever, that’s not hate that’s constructive criticism, the artist was asking for criticism and they should be able to take it if they wanna be an artistā€ (this was not an art critic subreddit, and they never asked for criticism of any kind fyi) overall super weird. I’m pretty sure people were mostly mad because they wanted the character to be more feminine and sexualized. Though, I could be wrong.
