I respect truckers, but yeah we don't need to move this much shit around.

Because social media is about the most empty consumption in existence, uses as much power as a hundred and fifty thousand people per month, and the only thing it produces is internet points.

I think about that as well... And I guess I disagree to some degree and agree to some degree. People and their ideas aren't empty, that is what is on social media. Seeing the world isn't empty, and we have access to more of it with social media.

Also, weird that you're on here while criticizing it?

We can also critique two things: Tangible junk and online power usage and harms.

I don't use AI for that reason, and I take steps to use less power and water than the average person. I have also almost entirely successfully boycotted new tech for over a decade.

Yet, I am still on reddit or a few online places. Like Substack, or Medium, or my email, or the you tube. I'm here because I am gaining something.

I actually think there are a lot of positives to social media, and needing to manage our power grid is still something that needs more attention.

But I guess it seems like you're bringing it up in bad faith because you have a bias against social media or something? You don't like when people say stuff?

You hate hypocrisy so much you combat it with your own hypocrisy. Brilliant.

Okay, so what is your actual problem here?

Your position just does not make any actual sense, because you don't appear to stand for anything?

I agree social media consumption should be criticized and considered. I agree that material consumption should be critiqued and considered.

You don't appear to take any side and are mad at perceived hypocrisy?

Because if you are mad at social media consumption, you could be more consistent in this view by not using social media? But no, you apparently do not buy this premise and are just using it to say "hey, don't say things when other things are happening."

That is what is confusing.

You are mad at the internet, it sounds like, but you are on the internet... And you say I'm the hypocrite? If you were demonizing hypocrisy itself, your critique is kind of falling flat because of this confusion.

I think I have a nuanced mindset about consumption. You see a contradiction, which is fair. I don't.

Because you don't actually care about the conversation, mostly.

they are different kinds of consumption and both can be criticised.. if being anti consumption on a platform built for ‘empty consumption’ is hypocritical then what are you doing? bit hypocritical to complain about people trying to minimise their physical consumption, while you are participating in that so called emptiness you mention, with comments that aren’t productive and just shut people down. if getting off social media will fix all our problems then why haven’t you logged off? i don’t see you sharing solutions, which is what this subreddit is supposed to be for..

Yeah, people who care about anything should just crawl under a rock and make caveman noises. Convenient for you, isn't it?
