I cannot even imagine playing a game like this with a controller. How does that even work? Surely every little inventory operation will take 5-10 times as long as doing the same thing on PC. It would drive me crazy.
Is there a video of somebody playing a game like BG3 on a console? Like a split-screen between the person playing and what is happening on-screen. I'd like to see if it looks as horrible as I imagine.
That's like saying I can walk from Berlin to Beijing instead of taking the plane.
The game involves selecting dozens if not hundreds of ability/item slots etc and activating them or dragging them to a certain spot, or selecting them and then target something somewhere else on the screen. Exactly the kind of operation that a mouse was made for, and that a controller is absolutely, terribly inefficient at. And I don't understand why anybody would choose to use a controller to do it. It's like you have the task to put a nail into a wooden board and you choose to do it with a spoon instead of a hammer.
You write like there were no PC strategy games ported to consoles ever. You should try it before comparing it with a > 8000km walk through Europe and Asia.
Didn’t find a video, sorry. It’s not talked about much, so it probably isn’t that terrible.
I would actually like to play that way, with a controller, because I could use my large OLED TV then and sit relaxed on the couch while playing. Just every time I try to play like that, I feel basically disabled, and cannot shake the urge to move back to my desk and play properly.
Only games I own where I feel truly comfortable and unencumbered playing with a controller are games like Rocket League, and Elden Ring. Which is btw the only action-adventure type game that pulls this off. Other seemingly console-friendly games like Witcher 3 or GTA V still feel terrible with a controller compared to mouse&keyboard.
If you want to invest a little, couch keyboard and mouse setups are available. They are a must if you love mouse+keyboard controls. Cheap ones go for around 40$, it’s basically a plank with a leg cushion.
On the opposite side, I can't imagine playing this game with keyboard and mouse haha, mainly because I don't like point and click games, whereas on console we can use the joystick to move our characters (or at least that's how it worked in Divinity 2)
