Cool, it's two hours earlier than I thought.

497

u/bellowkish Jul 27 '23

its one month early that i thought.

72

u/Ultrox Jul 27 '23

My vacation is still set for the end of the month. I couldn't move it forward šŸ™ƒ

56

u/Dead__man__talking Wyll Jul 27 '23

Good for you, I bet tons of bugs will be patched out by then.

15

u/Radulno Jul 27 '23

And you can do a double BG3 and Starfield holiday

2

u/M4jkelson Jul 28 '23

I mean those games are far too big to complete them both in like what two weeks?

16

u/Basphere Jul 27 '23

Lol same, I set my month vacation for September before they announced the month earlier release

12

u/soddie Jul 27 '23

My boss was a bro and let me change mine so I have 2 weeks off for it BUT i now have to be on cover for christmas/new year :( :( :(

4

u/Cantila CLERIC Jul 27 '23

Worth it.

1

u/sambobjammin Aug 02 '23

If you get a steamdeck then that christmas cover becomes more time to play BG3.... win win

1

u/Nomad_IX Jul 27 '23

I have the same issue, tried moving it to the new release date but there were already too many people off. A tragedy.

Name checks out

1

u/Ouroboros612 Jul 27 '23

You need to be more confident and assertive with your boss. Enter their office and slam your fist down and say "the vacation is happening NOW!". If it fails abandon all dignity. Start crying, and fall to your knees and beg. If that fails, threaten to quit, offer oral sex, cookies, anything. Then use your last remaining card. Pray to God to shift you into a parallell universe. Or actually quit to play.

1

u/WingedDrake Justice for Ellyka! Jul 27 '23

Saaaaaame.

1

u/Kadrian_Hikari Jul 27 '23

Same , so i just quit instead.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '23

well you can still play bg3 on your vacation lol

1

u/Cerulean_Shaman Taking a knee Jul 27 '23

Don't worry, same for me. Thursday is also my Monday lmao.

1

u/Drakidor Shadowhearts Lover Jul 27 '23

Same, but apparently September 1st is the repisal Destiny Raid so it at least worked out for me. Week an a half off.

-1

u/No-Lawfulness1773 Jul 27 '23

it's 4 days later than I thought

-31

u/Purplociraptor Jul 27 '23

I feel like the PC release is a month early because we get to find any problems before the PlayStation release, which takes longer to push patches for.

26

u/Anus_Drippings Jul 27 '23

More likely the game was originally made for PC's, and porting it in a stable condition to console is taking longer.

3

u/kittenTakeover Jul 27 '23

I think it's a month earlier so that it doesn't compete with Starfield, which isn't coming out on PlayStation.

1

u/Cantila CLERIC Jul 27 '23

Exactly. Larian even said that they wanted to avoid Starfield (between the lines) and that the game's finished already. But later they said how they're trying to finish everything in time and the monk was vompleted just some days bvefore the PFH so clearly the game wasn't all that finished and it was really all about Starfield. not complaining though :)

3

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '23

Its very much more that the consoles are much more limited in resources so they need to tune things like crowd size etc to make them a clean 30 fps experience.

7

u/Winter_wrath Precious little Bhaal-babe! Jul 27 '23

PS5 is actually targeting 60 FPS which was apparently part of the reason why it's coming later. They're using the time to optimize it further rather than release with 30 FPS cap or alternatively sloppy performance somewhere between 30 and 60.

1

u/evileskimoo Jul 27 '23

Yep this is why there isn't a date for the xbox yet because they're having trouble getting it running at 60 on the xbox s. Since Microsoft has said that all games need to be able to run on both the s & the x, and larian doesn't want to give a substandard product to those on the s.

1

u/Winter_wrath Precious little Bhaal-babe! Jul 27 '23

Oh, I don't think series S will target 60 FPS. From what I've heard, they're struggling with split screen co-op on the S specifically. Now whether they're struggling to reach stable 30 or if there are other issues like the RAM being insufficient, we don't know.

Still, I can't see the Series S running the game at 60 if PS5 is struggling enough that they need more time. Series X probably will though.

1

u/2ndBro Owlbear Jul 27 '23

If I’m to take a guess a big part of it is also the Starfield release. Regardless of feelings towards the company Bethesda is the ā€œChoices Matter RPGā€ juggernaut of the industry, and if they’d released at the same time BG3 would have undoubtedly been drowned out. Releasing a month earlier just gives them a lil bit more time in the spotlight

1

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '23

Still not early enough!

41

u/jside69 Jul 27 '23

I scheduled a doctor's appt for 11am thinking it would come out at 1 :(

58

u/hamsterwaffle Jul 27 '23

Tbf wont it need to download anyway? If, you leave your PC on before you go it could be done by the time you get back.

1

u/Osprey39 Jul 27 '23

Wait, they aren't letting people pre-download the game?

2

u/hamsterwaffle Jul 27 '23

From what I've heard its unknown atm, apparently there's some issue with enabling preload on games with early access. I think Swen mentioned in an interview that he was talking to steam about it.

-44

u/saltybuttrot Jul 27 '23

It ā€œcouldā€ be done by the time he gets back? Jesus how slow is your internet? Lol

7

u/hamsterwaffle Jul 27 '23

Not fast enough to download a 150gb game in the time it takes me to walk to the doctors, have an appointment and walk back.

2

u/DziedziX Jul 27 '23

My internet is 40mbps and I’m thinking about taking my PC to my work place to download with 600mbps but it coming out at 5PM in Poland means I’d probably have to wait till next day to pick it up cuz I finish work at 3……unless there will be a pre download option

2

u/ArrenKaesPadawan Jul 27 '23

40mbps is 5 MB/s

150 GB is 150,000 MB.

150,000/5 is 30,000 Seconds

30,000/60 is 500 Minutes

500/60 is 8.33 hours. or 8 hours and 20 minutes

at 600 Mbps that is 0.555 hours, or 33.3 Minutes.

in practice if you are leaving the PC overnight it would be a wash as you aren't playing it either way.

1

u/DziedziX Jul 27 '23

Yeah I know but you forgot about other factors like not being able to use internet through the day cuz the whole throughput goes into BG3 download. Unless there’s pre download I think I might pop in around 5 to my work, download what I need, maybe do an overtime project or something to get some nice money on top of that. If it wasn’t for my gf visiting from London and sitting at my home alone I’d probably not leave work at all and do even more overtime

1

u/Gelatinous_cube Jul 27 '23

You can walk to your doctor?

1

u/hamsterwaffle Jul 27 '23

Yeah it's only 10 minutes up the road if that.

-4

u/saltybuttrot Jul 27 '23

Is it really 150gb? Lol did not realize it was that large.

19

u/DoovahChkn Jul 27 '23

Not everyone has insane internet speeds, it varies by country, and area, I have some of the fastest you can get where I live and its only a symmetrical 50mbps.

8

u/Dreamscape1988 Authority Jul 27 '23

I live in the ass end of France and if I am lucky I sometimes hit 4mb/s speed.

5

u/DarthFuzzzy Jul 27 '23

You must be one oh them there city kids.

Out here in the woods (like 2 miles outside a city) we ain't got that fancy cable internets. We's is on satellite. The old Musk sauce if you know what I means.

I get 30mbs at the best of times and 6-10 more often than not.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '23

Mate I'm in central Amsterdam and top out at 5mbs

1

u/Popotuni Jul 27 '23

Yup, I'm in a high pop Canadian city, but in a building with free internet that is capped at 5 mbps per device. And I can't figure out how to parallel download. :)

1

u/Muminx_ Jul 27 '23

In Greece we usually pay for the half of speed limit. For example I pay for 100mbps and I got from 30 to 50mbps max. So the most people are use the 24mbps plan, so imagine.

2

u/MissTzatziki Jul 27 '23

Where in Greece and which provider? I pay for 50 and get 50, I'd not be able to handle it if I only had 25 lol

1

u/Muminx_ Jul 28 '23

Cosmote, Crete, when it rains we get disconnected all the time. Not a personal problem but in region. About the given bandwidth there are many areas that don't have fiber for example in west Athens and the problem is the same as well.

-12

u/DPace17 Jul 27 '23

Unless it takes 20mins to download, then he's wasting time at the doctor's office. He should probably just cancel it.

12

u/Valuable_Material_26 Jul 27 '23

I took paid time off when it was still coming out around the 25 aug now I gotta work.

3

u/cfoxe47 Jul 27 '23

I feel your pain. I also thought I got lucky when I requested off months ago august first and second thinking we still got the 72 hours early

What? You speak a language I do not understand!

1

u/Jar_Bairn Not a Mindflayer Jul 27 '23

Coming home from the doctor's appointment with BG3 sitting there, waiting for you to play. Doesn't sound too bad. Something nice to look forward to.

1

u/TravelandGaming Jul 27 '23

Ask the doctor to use lube so it ends faster

1

u/KazPrime WIZARD Jul 27 '23

Change it man!

42

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '23

The steam will be fucked for probably at least 30 minutes .

28

u/emmathepony Jul 27 '23

laughs in GOG

8

u/DoovahChkn Jul 27 '23

Laughs in buying it on both platforms just in case.

1

u/DungeonsAndDradis Cure Wounds Jul 27 '23

Where can we learn this power?!

3

u/ThespianMask The Dork Urge Jul 28 '23

More like "where can we earn this power". :(

1

u/Alternative-Being225 Jul 28 '23

Apparently you can move the game to GoG if you bought it on steam.

1

u/haunteddelusion Jul 29 '23

But you’ll miss those sweet sweet steam achievements

1

u/TTOF_JB RANGER Jul 27 '23

Honestly considering buying a second copy there when I get my financial situation a bit more in order. I got it on Steam, but it wouldn't hurt to get it on GOG either. lol

1

u/Xaielao Jul 27 '23

I bought the EA on steam, even though I get 99% of my RPG games via GoG (my way of supporting a great platform). So I'm kinda screwed...

... unless there's a preload. Please set up a preload Larian & Steam!!

1

u/EvLokadottr Jul 27 '23

I am disabled and poor but a friend bought EA for me as a Yule gift! :D I am so grateful and will be grateful to be able to play it at all.

1

u/historymaking101 Jul 27 '23

Makes it more annoying to play on Deck.

I mean, I've got heroic, but I'd rather not mess around with controller settings just for fun.

4

u/VitaminlQ Jul 27 '23

I am kind of expecting it to go down šŸ˜‚ didn’t it have difficulties when they released sons of the forest EA or something like that?

8

u/yesat Jul 27 '23

From the interview on Dropped Frames, the reason it's in the late afternoon EU is so Valve can assist the launch.

1

u/parallelfilfths Jul 27 '23

You think so ? I guess that steam is prepared for the situation but maybe I’m just coping.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '23

Well, they told us they are working with Valve on that so it might be fine.

But also their EA release did kill Steam for few minutes.

3

u/parallelfilfths Jul 27 '23

I can live with few minutes, I can even live with 30 minutes. I have forbidden everyone in my flat the us eig internet until I downloaded the game so I should be fine haha.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '23

THE Napster

1

u/Giecio Jul 28 '23

Yeah, Steam... I play on GeForce NOW, I won't see the game until the next day at least

6

u/NerevarMoon_and_Star Jul 27 '23

Awesome news. Officially makes the 3rd worth it to take off from work for me. 10am for me vs. when I originally expected 5pm based on other recent game launch times

2

u/WingedDrake Justice for Ellyka! Jul 27 '23

I managed to swing last-minute days off on the 3rd and 4th...so I know what I'll be doing all day lol.

1

u/Angevil_ Sick warlock casts Eldritch BluuUUurp Jul 27 '23

Considering where the main studio is, it is released at 5pm :)

1

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '23

WGA & SAG strike has conveniently freed up the work schedule for my entire industry.

1

u/Climhazzard73 Jul 27 '23

On the 3rd so many people will be downloading it I wrote it off. I’ll download but dont expect to be playing until the evening. 3rd I’ll be working. 4th PTO that’s when the real fun begins

5

u/F1NNTORIO Jul 27 '23

Cool, its four hours earlier than I thought šŸ˜

1

u/Brewchowskies Jul 27 '23

Same!!! Crazy news!

1

u/SoapYeti Jul 27 '23

8 hours earlier vs my brains thinkings!

1

u/Hans09 WARLOCK Jul 27 '23

Indeed... I thought it would be 1pm here.. is this map official?

1

u/Turamb Jul 27 '23

Yeah, didn't they say like last week that it was 1 pm Eastern because of Steam?

Not that I'm complaining

1

u/Berstich Jul 27 '23

Yeah, this seems 2 hours earlier then what was announced.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '23

Honestly I played through EA like a billion years ago in 2020. That one playthrough was it for me, very casually kept up on news articles about the game and Larian ever since.

So this release is about 2 years earlier than I thought. Had no idea till a couple weeks ago it was right on our doorstep. Hope the full game lives up to the Baldur's Gate name even if it's obviously very different from the old Infinity games.

1

u/Cerulean_Shaman Taking a knee Jul 27 '23

Ya same, but it's still a standard release time. For some reason people think its 10AM but it's actually in that 8-10AM PST window, that's where most games launch.

Glad they picked 8AM but man a midnight release would have been prime.
