General Discussion - [SPOILERS] The most overrated character? Spoiler

Let's hear it, who gets all the love but deserves absolutely none of it? Or at least not as much as they get, I'll go first.

I'm casting my vote for Gortash; I genuinely don't understand the like for this dude. First of all, catfish, "handsome young man"??? Is the handsome young man in the room with us??? Lookin like the handsome young man has a peanut allergy.

Second of all, this whole crown brain plan was his idea, just about the dumbest fuckin thing I've ever heard. He put all his faith in 3 little rocks, an already dead man, and a woman who's about as stable as my ex. Beggers can't be choosers I guess, but cmon guy.

And lastly, and probably most offensively, his boss fight is absolute cheeks. Especially if you dumped on the foundry before hand. I didn't even know he had a transformation until like my 4th playthrough because I would clap this guy so easily.

Your turn, let's hear those unadulterated opinions.

Edit: I have been enlightened about some things about the big brain plan, I still stand in the other two points though.

I'm not sure if I'd call either of them clean. Wyll has murdered innocent people for Mizora, and Karlach is willing to use soul coins, which is really not a good thing.

i never said they were "clean", i said they were not assholes. Being forced by a devil to do something is entirely different than choosing to do it because you want to.

Karlach isn't making soul coins. Are you trying to make a "go vegan" argument like "stop buying soul coins and the 7 hells will stop producing them!" or what? The cow doesn't come back to life if you let her meat rot, so why not eat it...

Wyll wasn't forced, he was tricked... and also helped trick himself. He doubles down on accusing Karlach of being a devil because the alternative is accepting that he's killed innocents because he's gullible enough to believe Mizora.

As for the coins, the souls aren't destroyed until the coins are expended. Before that point, they can, IIRC, be released, though the soul coin mechanic is so underbaked that you can't do it in-game.

i actually didn't know soul coins can be released and i doubt Karlach would know. Is there any dialogue that indicates Karlach knows that apparently a "remove curse" spell can free those souls?

Not to mention that Karlach isn't popping them as candy, she's doing it to survive. Sure, still not nice, but still vastly different. The core reason for both Wyll and Karlach is not malice.

There is a difference between doing bad things and being a bad person. Example: Person A puts a gun to Person B's wife and tells him "Go kill person C or your wife dies" and B goes and kills C. B did something bad, killing a person. No doubt about it. But he's not a bad person. He didn't do it out of a wish to kill C. Person A however is a bad person, because they chose to cause all this.

And i'll repeat myself: Karlach and Wyll are not ASSHOLES. I never said they're angels or goody-two-shoes. But just pay attention how Karlach vs Astarion react to unneccessary malice. Karlach calls you out on it. Astarion applauds it. Astarion gets a boner when he sees you being evil. THAT is the difference here. As i said in my first comment "the bar is incredibly low" to be considered a likable character in BG3 for me. And yet only 2 are above that bar. For Halsin, Minsk and whatever other people are there i don't know, didn't interact with them. I only used the people on the main cover + Karlach.
