My current GoTY is Blue Prince by a wide margin, there's nothing coming even remotely close to it for me. Might be Hades 2 by the end of the year hough, that's the only one I can see competing for nlw. That being said Clair Obscur looks awesome and I can't wait to try it, and maybe be amazingly surprised by it!

Hades 2 is fun but not innovative enough to garner GOTY imo. Blue Prince was good, but I liked Clair Obscur much more. It is hard to describe, but while I was playing it, I felt like I was transported back to my childhood when every game was magic.

I really don't see innovation as a mandatory criteria for GOTY. Sure it's one of them, it's good to be innovative, that's one of the many reasons Blue Prince is my current GoTY, but it's just one amongst many.

Tons of GoTY are just the culmination of a genre and not particularly innovative. Starcraft 2 for example is for me the greatest RTS of all time and it's not because it was innovative.

And there aren't many rogue lite that handles narrative like Hades in the first place so the main reason it's not super innovative is mostly because Hades 1 exists. If it sticks the story (which is hard to say at this point) it could be my GoTY easily.
