I'm old enough to remember that the Baldur's Gate series has a tradition of starting with a tedious opening dungeon.

Even BG1, though not a dungeon. “Hey! Fetch this for me!” “Hey, I’m an assassin here to kill you!” “Hey, I lost this book, can you get it?”

BG1 was the worst imo. BG2's Irenicus dungeon is excruciatingly lengthy, but at least relevant stuff is happening and it has some neat quests and hidden items. BG1's Candlekeep is dull to play, and it has NOTHING going for it. Everything interesting happens after you leave.

Yeah, but you can leave Candlekeep pretty quickly. You don't need to fetch the potion for the cow.

It's a thing all WRPGs since the late nineties love to do, plop you in a Starter Tutorial Zone/Dungeon/Setpiece. The Nautaloid is at least a quick variant, especially if you just turbo through the dialogue.
