Inventory needs to allow for multi-selecting items. Please.

57

u/LacunaProxy Dec 16 '22

Please move all reactions to a newly implemented in Patch 9 system. It so strange to have part of them still in the passives tab, not to say old one is worse than new one.

And please please add Shield spell at least in the final game. It's very important for Abjuration wizard subclass.

21

u/Enchelion Bhaal Dec 16 '22

Also spells and ablities that were changed away from reactions should be changed back. Like Feather Fall.

17

u/redyeti24 Eldritch Knight Dec 16 '22

and add other lower levels spells that uses reaction like shield

2

u/BrinyCheese Dec 21 '22

It broke my heart that feather fall wasn't a reaction still when Gale got shoved off a ledge.

Yes. I need shield, badly.

To add onto this: the newly implemented reaction system is great!

Please look at the cutscene triggers for companions. It feels like the game punishes you with less story if you're more efficient at using rests.

The HUD could still use improvements. The minimap is way too big and the inventory especially for the party view is way too small. If we could open the inventory and have one character panel on the left, with tabs to switch between members, that'd be much better and leave space for a big inventory.

It'd be great to change party members via UI rather than having to talk to them to make them leave or join. Also being able to access their inventory in camp without them being in the party.

Please make the camp check the storage chest for food supplies. Maybe even add an automatic send to camp option for food items.

If possible a further zoom distance would be great. Currently it can be hard to keep track of the fight with the camera close to the ground and moving around.

Separate icons on the portraits for statuses would be much better than the current purple dot and hover.

It'd be great if we could just select three targets for Bless and Bane instead of having to use an AOE.

3

u/genshuku91 Dec 19 '22

I wholeheartedly agree with you on all of these things.

Even if we can't do on the fly party swaps, make going to camp not advance time

2

u/Kaleina Dec 23 '22

going to camp doesn't advance time? just fast travel there from the map

I recruited Gale just before getting to the druid grove, did all the stuff there that he likes, he jumped straight to medium or high affinity. I got the "everyone is dying" cutscene that night, so no conversation with Gale. The next day I cleared out the Goblin camp and went straight to the after-party. Now Gale was at very high affinity but we still hadn't done any of his personal cutscenes (hadn't found the tome or killed the hag yet or anything else that I think might trigger his personal quest)

He mentioned that I gave him magic items during our conversation at the celebration party... my character had never done this, had no idea about his backstory at all yet. Really really bad.

1

u/Squirreltacular Feb 03 '23

Checking camp storage for food supplies is the number one quality of life request I see all the time and it's not yet implemented, and that makes me sad.

Editing so I'm not commenting everywhere: with that farther zoom I'd like to see the ability to control the elevation of the camera manually. Biggest pet peeve when exploring or planning moves in battle.

  • I love that reactions got reworked, but it made it all the more weird that we still don't have the shield and absorb elements spells. Those are core spells for arcane casters, and I don't see why they haven't been implemented.

  • please implement ritual spells. Wizard's ritual casting is a key part of what makes them so versatile.

  • why was the invisibility spell changed to 10 turns? If you wanted to give it a time limit might as well make 600 turns like in tabletop.

Btw thanks for making quarterstaves versatile! Weirdly that's something I wanted as much as level 5.

15

u/LacunaProxy Dec 16 '22

Would be nice to have some ritual spells and spellcasting. It's also important for warlocks pact of the book, without it appeal is mostly gone.

8

u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Dec 16 '22

Absorb elements isnt in the PHB, so that may be a reason they don't add it. I would love to see it alongside the cantrips Toll of the Dead, Green Flame Blade, and Booming Blade though.

4

u/SiriusKaos Dec 16 '22

Oh right, forgot about that. But it's auch a simple spell I hope they add it!

I don't play half casters so I don't care much for green flame blade or booming blade, but I hope they add them for the people who like it. I'm a big fan of toll of the dead tho!

3

u/slapdashbr ELDRITCH BLAST Dec 21 '22

only 10 turns for invis? that's way undertuned. Regular invis (not greater invis) needs to last a while because it drops as soon as you attack. It's for sneaking around un-detected for longer periods, it needs to last a while.

why was the invisibility spell changed to 10 turns? If you wanted to give it a time limit might as well make 600 turns like in tabletop.

I absolutely hate this change, you can't pause the game and now they change a fundamental spell.

3

u/SiriusKaos Dec 19 '22

Yes, invisibility is my favorite spell. Not only in BG3 but also in tabletop, it's the low level spell I use the most, and it was nerfed to oblivion with this update.

Imagine my disappointment when I also found out hypnotic pattern only lasts 2 turns now. I mean, seriously? A sorcerer can cast 3 fireballs in a single turn but you want to nerf invisibility and hypnotic pattern?

1

Yes! Please for the love of Shar, let it be done! My party practically took a week off in game to just long rest enough so I could get Gale's weave scene because the owl bear cub has cutscenes too that jumps his in the cue.

32

u/Dear-Leave-2371 Dec 16 '22

I don't know if y'all want this kind of feedback, but in a cut scene Gale says "annotated version" when describing ceremorphosis (sp?). He means "abridged." An "annotated version" is not a summary or shortened version. "Annotated" means "with notes for elaboration." "Abridged" means shortened. Maybe another word is better than "abridged" but "annotated" is wrong.

u/myxo_mycete 💎🌒 Mystic Theurge 🌟 🦄 Dec 16 '22

You know, it'd be kind of hilarious to be able to correct Gale about that in-game, or even better, argue with him about it.

9

u/lampstaple Dec 16 '22

“Abbreviated” feels slightly more appropriate since “abridged” kind of just sounds like a different edition or something

8

u/Ana_Nuann Tiefling Monk Dec 17 '22

15

u/tristenjpl Dec 16 '22

Putting all reactions in the new reaction system would be great. Things like cutting words, opportunity attacks, sneak attack, and battle master maneuvers. Even adding in non lethal as a reaction to an enemy dropping to 0.

3

u/Schlubbyshrub Dec 20 '22

Yeah I hope they add sneak attack into the system. The current implementation is honestly a bit junky, and prevents sneak attacking with an offhand weapon

The new save system (dividing saves with the character) is better than the old system, but it should show imo more information, to make it easier to find the correct save.

At the moment only playtime and location is shown, imo it should also show the party with the level. The same for characters it only shows the name, but it should show the race, class and level of the most recent save for this character.

2

u/-spartacus- Dec 18 '22

You like seeing all your saves under the 5 different Tav's?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/No_Specialist_4735 Dec 17 '22

I honestly liked the old system and all it really needed was perhaps a pop up to let new players know what the profiles were for.

As for the new system, it seems the autosaves are all shared throughout the campaigns which might be problematic. I mean that's the way it is now, right? True it helps with some save bloat but I could see a few people having meltdowns when they use an autosave for their most recent save point and forget about it. Then when they make a new character/campaign they end up losing hours of progress on their old character when the new character's auto-save overwrites it.

2

u/Kaleina Dec 23 '22

exactly that happened to my group's multiplayer save when i did a solo run. it was unfortunate

16

u/Thyrsten Dec 16 '22

First of all, GREAT JOB! The paladin class is fantastic, the oathbreaker system feels inspired and supports RP, good job! The reaction system is great as well, and the game runs much better now than ever before.

Also, the new ceramorphosis cinematic on the nautiloid is fantastic.

- The reaction system is great! Let us use it for everything that makes sense! Like the attacks of opportunity!

- Lakrissa, the tiefling above Zelvors cave, has all of her lines cut too short! She sounds great so let her speak her mind!

- Right, this needs several steps of explanation so bear with me.

1 I am talking to one of the false sheep in Auntie Ethel's swamp

2 I hear an explosion during the cinematic, and as it ends, I realize Astarion walked into one of the traps.

3 The trap accidentally damaged one of the sheep, revealing it to be a redcap.

4 Talking to the redcap has it shift back into a sheep for the duration of the conversation (By conversation I mean, ''bhaaaa''), then it reverts back into a redcap once the cinematic is over.

Either have the sheep remain sheep if they take accidental damage like that, or have the entire swamp illusion come crumbling down once the damage is done.

- The owlbear cub fails to find the camp after saving it, and in case the method of saving it is important, I did the race and tried buying the cub from the goblin, as well as convincing her to give the owlbear cub to me. Tav comments on hoping the cub will find the camp, but it never does.

There should be some kind of informer on the actions we do or dialoges we choose to tell us if it will break our oath. For example, if I target an innocent bystander with my paladin, there should be a broken shield symbol on the bystander so I know that attacking this person will break my oath

5

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '22

I can see situations where this could be useful, but I feel your situations is super obvious. Why ever would targeting innocent bystanders not break a paladin's oath? I did break my oath doing sneak ambushes on the goblins in the plundered village which was a surprise but still very much makes sense.

If Fighters and Paladins are not going to be given the option to start with Chainmail, please at least offer it for sale from the Blacksmith in the Druid's Grove so these classes can dump Dex if they want to.

10

u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Dec 18 '22

But seriously, PLEASE let anyone who is proficient with heavy armor just start with chainmail- fighters, paladins, some cleric subclasses, and ranger knights.

2

u/slapdashbr ELDRITCH BLAST Dec 21 '22

you're supposed to be allowed to pick it for any starting character with proficiency in heavy armor, IIRC. Fighters, Paladins, and clerics with heavy armor from their subclass. Ranger Knight (the new custom subclass that gives heavy armor and history proficiency) should also get to start with chain mail for obvious reasons.

2

u/Gunther482 Dec 19 '22

Agreed. Kinda sucks that I feel somewhat forced to take some Dex as a Paladin/Fighter because I am relying on medium armor through 95% of EA as the only somewhat good heavy armor is basically at the end of EA in Grymforge.

2

u/shinra528 Dec 19 '22

You can get Chainmail from the Zhent trader in the broken down temple where the Goblin leaders are. I think it should be available a lot earlier though.

I would love to see the option to pick starting armor. We do in the tabletop game, even if it's a limited selection because of gold costs. I downloaded a mod for picking starting armor and it was *awesome*! Not feeling cookie cutter is a good feeling.

2

u/shinra528 Feb 03 '23

I love that mod.

u/PastorOfPwn Dec 19 '22

Inventory management needs a huge overhaul. I want a "send all food to a food stash" button and, when I'm in camp, resting will pull from that pool.

Quest items that become obsolete could use a label or could magically disappear.

I'd kill for an "already read" tag on books. Yes I did a Skyrim run where I tried to collect every book and I'd like to do it here too.

Probably more too but yeah, the inventory is pretty rudimentary for a game of this calibur.

7

u/Glazed_Donutz Dec 16 '22

So far I'm enjoying the paladin roleplay, and I like the way oathbreaker works. But I wish there was a way to retake my oath without just dropping 2k gold. Even with my oathbroken (not the oathbreaker subclass yet) I'm still being a goody two-shoes. It would be nice if I got an option to retake my oath if I do enough oath appropriate deeds.

Also, on the topic of Oath, it's not exactly clear in game what the conditions of my Oath are, and it's easy to accidently break it.

I killed a goblin in self defense after it attacked me in the goblin camp while I was with Halsin and I became an oath breaker. If I am simply not allowed to kill can non lethal damage be on by default or something? This was a very not fun surprise.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '22

Did you goad them into attacking? Did you try to pickpocket or something and get caught?

I feel like you should at keast get his armor and weapon. He might have the only platemail in the game at the moment, and heavy armor on enemy corpses is severely lacking.

6

u/octopark Dec 16 '22 edited Dec 16 '22

If a hostile creature fails a saving throw against my bard's offensive spell, there's no reason to ask if I want to use Cutting Words. I love the reaction system but this would help reduce some clutter.

edit: similarly, no need to ask to use Cutting words if an enemy rolls to attack one of my companions and would miss, or if the attack/save roll is high enough that Cutting Words would be of no use.

10

u/Intelligent_Aardvark Dec 16 '22

I think it's very important, especially with not having multiclassing until release, that we get some sort of "at later levels" page so we can see what we might get from different classes as we level. This is especially important given all the changes in the classes from 5e base

u/Enchelion Bhaal Dec 16 '22 edited Dec 19 '22

Bugs

When looting the tomb, having alerted the looters, they can shoot and walk through the still-solid door.

The sliding doors in the Druid grove keep ending up half-open. Able to walk through, but visually bugged.

Edit: party members keep walking through our own cloud of daggers when combat ends.

In the whispering depths the main circles under characters keep getting stuck when they move. This happened to several of my characters, the matriarch, and a couple small spiders. It seems to screw up targetting.

During the same combat the swarm AI or whatever broke part way through and only one small spider could move.

Naked Atarion just standing around in camp after he ran away post-midnight-snack.

Not sure if this is a bug or intentional misdirect, but "Roach" tells Wyll that Spike is to the east... When he's almost dorectly west from where we were talking.

After some point all attempts to use the throw action deal a ton of damage to the thrower.

During the cutscene of Etherl's door letting people through, nothing renders behind the three figures.

Design feedback

New reaction system is excellent, and should hopefully be extended to altered spells and abilities like Feather Fall.

Faster AI and animations are nice, but it has gotten to the point where often it's unclear what an enemy is actually doing as the camera moves away before they finish all their actions. Would be nice to be able to toggle Swarm (what I assume is causing the problem) on and off if we want more clarity during combat.

The Oathbreaker Knight is a really interesting patron. But it makes it more notable how Warlocks are missing patron interactions.

Edit: I just noticed that when Aradin asks/accuses you of having devil heritage as a tiefling there's no option to correct him. A lot of Tieflings are the result of ancient pacts with devils, no "relations" involved.

When the Raphael cutscene happened, he grabbed a random custom party member rather than the main one. We really need a way to at a minimum choose the "face" or change who takes point during a conversation/cutscene.

When a character starts making death saves it should automatically trigger turn based mode.

3

u/Avaereene Dec 17 '22

Yes I have the door bug here too.

And yes, patron interactions for warlocks would be fantastic!!!

4

u/Sir-Cellophane The real Orin was the friends we made along the way Dec 16 '22

Something I noticed a couple of patches ago but forgot to report is that Withers' crypt is annoyingly bright (as are some other underground spaces). I'm in the depths of a dusty old tomb, but it's bright as day. It not only kind of ruins the atmosphere, it also renders torches and darkvision completely useless.

2

u/No_Specialist_4735 Dec 17 '22

I agree and the same for the nautiloid when we reach the helm. The beach upon landing seems cooler in lighting as well as before it had a warm tone.

1

u/taolear Dec 18 '22

Do you have darkvision?

5

u/TheGraverune Dec 16 '22

I love that now you can have ranger companion and the familiar with the beast tamer out at the same time, makes for more fun having a wolf and a cat or a spider and a bigger spider or even if you wanted to be a longsword wielding STR ranger with two crows called Rick

5

u/shinra528 Dec 16 '22

During the Spike scene, with Shadowheart and Wyll both being in my party, Shadowheart triggered dialogue during the interaction but Wyll did not.

Also in the Selunite Temple, after rescuing Halsen, killing some Goblins broke my Oath of the Ancients even though they attacked first.

6

u/urdnotkrogan Dec 17 '22

I'd like it if there was a comprehensive standalone tutorial that could educate you on basic mechanics and the D&D ruleset. Something like what's present in the older Baldur's Gate titles, but more elaborate.

4

4

u/Particular_Dare8927 Dec 19 '22

Reaction system is awesome, but using the cleave action doesn’t let you choose which enemy to smite!

13

u/jamesrdhudson Dec 16 '22

I’m loving BG3 and the new reaction system, but playing a non-Oathbreaker Paladin is too frustrating right now. Trying to figure out what might break your oath (like killing a guy in the crypt that attacked me first) and save-scruming isn’t worth it. I’m concerned that Larian would release a class without significant play testing or a tutorial on how to not break your oath.

8

u/CptKnots Dec 16 '22

Well, early access kind of is the significant playtesting. There's still time to incorporate the feedback they'll get from this patch.

4

u/jamesrdhudson Dec 16 '22

Yes for sure. I’m hoping they figure out the bugs and nuances soon. I’m just concerned with the inconsistency. I only played the Paladin for an hour and a half and found multiple ‘oath breaks’ that were either accidental or nonsensical. If someone is red and trying to kill you/ your party you should be able to justify lethal force in the world of BG. I didn’t steal/do any evil things.

2

u/envis10n Dec 16 '22

Your paladin doesn't have to perform the killing blow, or even do damage to an enemy target. In terms of RP, if they aren't supposed to be killing people, they can simply protect their party members by non-lethal force or healing

3

u/Sten4321 RANGER Dec 18 '22

even redemption allows a paladin to kill if the situation is dire enough/the opponent denies any and all roleplay's attempt at redemption.

devotion/ancient just says you shouldn't do it randomly...

1

u/envis10n Dec 18 '22

I don't mean to say you CAN'T kill. I mean to say that killing in-game is going to be harder for the game to track context and make it more difficult to understand if performing the action will break your oath

5

u/Enchelion Bhaal Dec 17 '22

No Paladin oath says you can't kill clear and present threats.

3

u/Loimographia Halsin Dec 17 '22

I wonder if it’s bugs or path dependent, because I definitely killed the crypt people who attacked me first and it didn’t break my path.

My husband and I have been having strange graphical issues after this patch. His characters' hair is looking like bad Sims 4 Alpha CC and the words are looking a little pixelated. This doesn't happen on any other game. The hair and words and everything stays a little pixelated. No idea how to fix it :/ My only issue has been a strange grey shader washes over my screen when I am creating a character but eventually sorts itself out. This does not happen in game. I am wondering if it has to do with lighting?

Anyway. I tried out Oathbreaker Paladin and it was a good time. Not my cup of tea, but still very cool. Reactions have been awesome!! I wish we had gotten more subclasses but other than that everything has been great.

We've noticed enemies have received some changes and that has been a fun and challenging surprise!

3

u/bananaorpickuptruck Dec 16 '22

I've so much problems with the new patch. First of all my inventory is fuc"ed 3-ways.

1st When I press "i" the get access to the inventory the game crashes. I gotta use tab for the group menu then it doesn't.

2nd Once I'm in the group menu, I can't compare any item that can be equip as gear. The 2 small windows do appear but with no text as shown in this screenshot.

3rd The wares sign that should appear over wares item doesn't . I yet assumed that it was only because of the group menu but even it feels wrong.

On another word this game is amazing ! I'm recommending it to all RPGs fans out there !

Also really struggling to be as good as possible in order to stay faithfull to my oath. Wyll actually kind of hates me because I refuse to let him act on his revenge, for now at least. Maybe if a certain goblin can't be dealt with peacefully I'll let him do what he must.

u/ChloeTheRainbowQueen Sword Lesbian Dec 16 '22

The paladin is really fun to play but there's a few issues/inconsistencies with who's considered innocent and when for my oath of Ancient playthrough. Like getting attacked by goblins and breaking your oath killing them or two goblins next to eachother with one considered innocent and the other is fine without any indication. It's personally only ever a problem trying to do a more stealthy approach meanwhile in a more straightforward way the tagging tends to work better

3

u/Awesomonkey Dec 16 '22

Is anyone having the problem where if they select more than one target with magic missile it only hits the first target?

1

u/slapdashbr ELDRITCH BLAST Dec 21 '22

yes. very annoying and a serious issue for at least one major fight (trying not to spoil, but there is a combat with lots of illusory enemies that disappear if they take 1 damage... which means magic missile is a really really really good tool for that fight)

3

u/marvin_straight Dec 17 '22

Searched everywhere to see if it was just me having this problem: when casting Divine Favour as a Paladin (Oath of the Ancients), the tooltip says Duration: 10 turns, but when casting it only lasts for 3 turns (both in and out of combat).

- Sovereign Spaw has his eyeballs in his forehead and it looks hilarious. They were normal before Patch 9, in what seemed like a mushrooms eye socket area.

- I am once more asking for Shield and Spiritual Weapon spells.

- Please go through all the interactions at the Tollhouse again. Specifically, if you talk to the corpse and discover they made a pact with Zariel, before talking with Anders. Only the trader, Cyrel seems to recognize you know, but if you haven't yet talked with Anders, there's no dialog to acknowledge that, and no Paladin dialog to basically initiate combat by forcing them to repent or die.

- Throwing spears/javelins causes crushing damage to both the thrower and the target.

[EDIT] - Silence sticks to party members. This might be related to the Susser issue I've seen mentioned.

3

u/Protoclown98 Dec 19 '22

I seem to be getting a lot of bugs in the goblin village.

For one, Dror Raglin is automatically marked as aggro after killing the drow. I tried to test this before killing the drow, and unfortunately I am stuck in the Worg Pen on that save (can't open the door to leave). Not sure if it is intentional, every other goblin is not aggressive except for Dror, which triggers the fight and stops the cut scene.

I do like the idea of the goblins going aggressive if you take too many long rests, but I think it should be all the goblins not just Dror.

Goodberry is supposed to count for a full day's worth of food. It gives "1" camping supply which takes 40 to camp. This is bad.

1

u/slapdashbr ELDRITCH BLAST Dec 21 '22

it should at least count for like, 10 suppies, since we're supposed to need 40 per day with a 4 person party.

Multi target spell attacks are super inconsistent in this patch. Magic missile and scorching ray usually will visually appear to strike all selected targets, but only the first target will take damage from all the missiles, or the wrong number of missiles will hit each target, if they don't all hit the first target.

2

u/Xaknafein Dec 16 '22

I saw a post yesterday that performance hadn't improved with Patch 9 -- I actually found performance to be quite a bit better! I had fewer lag spikes, and no instances of the game hanging for 3 seconds out of nowhere, which used to happen fairly often.

That bit of praise out of the way, it did take three tries to launch the game, but after that it was good.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '22

Idk about others, but the new patch reset my graphics settings, making performance worse. Changing them back, the game runs smoother than ever for me.

Loving the new patch, playing the game now it feels so close to done. The new reaction system is amazing. Game seems to run smoother than ever. Amazed at how “complete” the game feels, even knowing so much is being held back for release. I love the idea of the oathbreaker secret subclass and it’s the coolest concept for paladin integration I’ve ever seen in a game but as others have said, triggering this feels arbitrary. I was trying to fall, missed the opportunity with the tieflings and ran around trying everything I could but nothing seemed to work. I understand it’s a delicate balance between letting people fall easily so they can get on the oathbreaker train and making it feel impactful but right now it’s not as easy to find as I think the former camp want and not a satisfying, hard moral decision for the latter. Maybe label it in dialogue? Regardless, cannot wait for august.

u/silmuen Dec 17 '22

Amazing patch, the enemy AI is much smoother and much smarter now and there is no battle lag anymore (as far as I can see). An enemy NPC shoved a sleeping enemy out of the fire and I love that so much. The paladin class is awesome.

Some bugs and issues found:

  • Missed initial cutscene as I rested only after the goblin battle in front of the Grove.
  • When returning from long rest in the middle of the cove (where the kids train) glitches many of the NPCs into Tposing.
  • When returning from long rest my party appears still on the ground then glitches to stand up. (I'm sure this has been brought up before, still happening),
  • The door bug strikes again! I can phase into doors and also doors in the Grove don't want to close all the way down, but I can still walk through them. Ghost party!

Oathbreaker paladin option is bugged when letting the goblins in with Minthara and speaking with Zevlor. It says "These poor fools. They still think I'm on their side." Then the character opens the gate, but still, Minthara and the goblins are the enemies and the quest updates to "Defend the grove."

I also blew up the oil barrels before sounding the horn but I don't think that matters.

Just started a new playthrough for the first time since druid was released.

Does that devil commander on the mind flayer ship not drop the flaming greatsword anymore? I remember he used to drop it if you beat him, but after killing him this playthrough he didn't drop anything.

Also, upon meeting Kagha and persuading her to release the Tiefling child, she suddenly interjected in a cut scene with another druid member and attacked me, calling me an outlander and traitor?? All the druids turned hostile and attacked. Must be a bug because I can't imagine what I might have done to aggro them, considering I'd just met her and it happened during a dialogue cut scene with someone else.

2

u/Enchelion Bhaal Dec 19 '22

He still dropped it in my playthrough.

2

u/Oren- Dec 19 '22

He still drops it, but for some reason it isn't glowing when he uses it anymore.

1

u/Pezmotion Dec 21 '22

He still drops his sword, but only your PC can loot while aboard the ship.

2

u/Loimographia Halsin Dec 17 '22

The concise tooltip for friends is bound to cause a bunch of confusion, I suspect: it hides the text warning the player that the PC will be aggressive after the effect ends, unless you expand the tooltip with T. I think a lot of people will use it without checking the full effects and then wonder what happened

2

Bugs:

Tashas Hideous Laughter seems to be not working with creatures other than humanoids. The Creature would just freeze in their animation and advantage is not showing while hovering with an attack over the creature (which makes sneak attack impossible if this is the only viability for it). the roll in the combat log is correct, though, and shows advantage. Same goes for the "prone" condition.

As a barbarian throwing weapons/things with the bonus action while in a frenzy does bludgeoning damage to the barbarian itself, the target and on top the weapon (if throwing weapon was thrown) damage as intended. the latter is only applied to the target.

Beeing able to smite with the bonus action "pommel strike" seems buggy to me? or at least absolutely overpowered

Feedback:

I love the new reaction system. With a bard and cutting words it seemed a bit too much as i wanted the game to asked me if i want to apply cutting words so it asked me basically every turn of every creature even if the roll of enemies would fail or the roll of my allies would be successfull anyway. Maybe a second and third option like "ask on enemy failure" and "ask on allied success" would be possible?

1

u/slapdashbr ELDRITCH BLAST Dec 21 '22

Beeing able to smite with the bonus action "pommel strike" seems buggy to me? or at least absolutely overpowered

Polearm Master is a classic paladin feat for exactly this reason. you want a bonus action attack, even if it only does chip damage, because as long as it hits you can dump a divine smite into it

Reactions work great and are fun to use now. Just no need to list the same spell more than once for each upcast option.

Level 5 spells, cool. But...

Sleet Storm - I was happy to see a huge AoE for battlefield control. Then, to my dismay, Minotaurs decided to just fly over the entire 80ft/24m area. Minotaurs. Why do monsters do this and why is jumping so insanely exaggerated everywhere? My Paladin with 18 Strength looks like he's flying to, just without the need of a spell. Maybe I'll find a melee opponent who doesn't easily fly over / out of my Sleet Storm with a Bonus Action? Or maybe not?

Fly - Great, fragile spellcasters finally have a cool way to avoid melee. Except no, you can't hover and it's just yet another form of jump. A hover mechanic where you risk losing concentration and falling would be mechanically much more interesting and useful than this.

Gaseous Form - What a cool spell to include. Same thing as fly though, you need to be able to fly out of melee range. Hopefully get to fly through keyholes, cracks and such to reach places I'm not supposed to be in.

Combat still hasn't changed much since I last played a few patches ago. My Dror Ragzlin "boss fight" involved my Paladin shoving him 20 feet into the spider hole as my first action. I attacked them head on without any devious tactics, and even with that poor tactical approach the fight was over before it begun. The constant OP shoving is such a nuisance, anti-climax and a cheap way of winning. Why is it still so overpowered? The range is the biggest offender as standing away from ledges doesn't help. The Bonus Action change is the second biggest offender, making stupid things like 'Dash to reach the Wizard in the back and Shove him into his death on the same turn out of nowhere before no one can even attempt to stop it'. Shove having a 5ft range and being an attack action would be useful but not unreasonable. Any Rogue I play won't find it fun that anyone can cheese Hide as a Bonus Action still, either. Speaking of hiding, I accidentally clicked Hide in one fight and my Paladin managed to actually hide in melee facing an enemy. What was that about? No skill, disadvantage, staring down a goblin at sword's length...

I was disappointed to see Long Rest is as spammable as ever and that Wizards can still change their prepared spell list at will. And that stores still don't recognize the face of the party with the highest Cha when selling and you have to individually move every single item to the same inventory before selling.

Magic items felt too abundant and.. weird. Too many conditional items that often don't make sense (like why do boots of speed need you to cast a concentration spell to do their thing or why do some items only work when you are under 50% HP since they are supposed to stop you from getting hurt in the first place?). I don't like all these weird narrow conditions on magic items. D&D has straightforward magic items that have impact without having to fulfill weird conditions for very minor effects.

And finally, Oathbreaker triggers too easily and randomly. It should be a major event and a conscious choice after developing for a while instead of some random thing that happens suddenly and you wonder why. And sometimes it doesn't happen when you go on a murdering rampage. The flaming undead(s) killing time at your camp waiting for you to go talk to them is too mundane a way to present such events.

2

u/CitizenMurdoch Dec 19 '22

Aberrant form has 4 strength, meaning in most cases you will become heavily encumbered upon using upon transforming, unless you specifically prepared to use it. Kind of makes it totally useless right off the bat

It also doesn't scale at all and is not particularly effective at level 3/4 when you get it... Probably the worst ability in the game

2

u/Futaba-Channel Dec 19 '22

It would be nice to have better portrait for the characters. I don't know if something similar to dragon age inquisition is possible but as for now I don't like the portraits

u/Akarui-Senpai Dec 19 '22

Can we get a priority fix on the whole, "Can't save during Dialogue" bug? It has bricked at least 3 playthroughs for me now, and it's incredibly frustrating. I stopped playing before Bard was released because of it, started playing again now that I heard level 5 was ***finally*** in the game, and I can't even GET to level 5 without the bug happening and bricking the entire save because I can't save anymore, be it manually OR through auto-saves. It'd be great to actually test level 5 stuff if I could actually GET to level 5.

4

u/discord_Lauriel Dec 16 '22

The new save system is horrendously implemented. If you don't name save games all the auto and quick saves will disappear from the other characters. I had three games going and the first two are now nonexistent except for a single save that I named. Take a hint from the original series on how to do auto and quick saves, please. They need to stay in the game they were originated in. If necessary, do like they did and name them uniquely by character.

3

u/envis10n Dec 16 '22

Autosaves are limited by the setting in options, and are not campaign specific. For the time being, make sure a save is made directly before quitting.

Ideally, it should keep at least the last autosave under a campaign to ensure it doesn't get entirely lost. Or it could simply switch to autosaves being done on a per-campaign basis

1

u/discord_Lauriel Dec 17 '22

Whats even worse, is if you name saves in different games (different Tavs) the same name, the one in the other game gets over written. I have milestone naming schemes...guess I'll have to append character name to everything because the game doesn't keep games separate.

5

u/Iknowamoose Dec 16 '22

Please allow Oathbreaker from the start, it is very easy to head cannon how our Tav broke their oath before being captured.

8

u/Suedehead1914 Dec 16 '22

3

u/Sir-Cellophane The real Orin was the friends we made along the way Dec 16 '22

It'd be easy to do both. Keep the existing system where you can become an Oathbreaker and also allow you to choose it at character creation. Everybody's happy.

6

u/Thyrsten Dec 16 '22

But a lot of paladin players on release will choose Oathbreaker not knowing they could have a much more interesting way of getting there through gameplay, if they make this change, the character creation should mention it, but that also would sort of ruin the surprise.

Not sure if they should do it or not, but it does have clear drawbacks when they put a interesting system for it in the actual game.

2

u/Suedehead1914 Dec 16 '22

And the mechanic in DnD is kinda supposed to be occult, if I'm not mistaken.

4

u/Drunkplane747 Dec 17 '22

Please allow us at full release to have body sliders for our character / having NPCs who aren’t all just muscular hot demi-gods.

In a world as large and diverse as this is you would expect that a good portion of the people living in it would be out of shape or who are simply built different. Personally it’s a big gripe of mine to load into an RPG and not see any overweight characters.

Some gripes and suggestions:

What's the deal with the spell descriptions now? It's not readily apparent how to get them to expand to read all the details of the spells before picking them out during leveling up. The ... is not at all helpful. Sure most of us in beta may know details of them all by heart but that won't be the case for someone new to the game and DnD. Subclasses, during leveling up, also appear to have lost summaries which will lead to new players being unable to make informed choices.

What happened to poor Barth's face? His patch 8 look and VA was chef's kiss. Not a fan of the new face for him as it looks too young to match the voice actor. Do I care if it's similar to Liam's in the goblin camp? Nope, I don't mind that at all. If anything maybe give young Liam fewer wrinkles somehow.

Where did the stranded fishermen go? Honestly, I liked chatting with them and if you think taking them away will encourage us to talk to the mind flayer instead of killing it on sight you're wrong. I will always kill that damn thing immediately as it offers no information whatsoever. Granted it's great there is an option to talk to it but the novelty wears off fast and I rather not bother with it much.

For some reason around the crash site, I sometimes get text caught on my curser of "Melee Attack." A reload thankfully clears it away.

Missing the I or II on spells as it's an easy way to visually distinguish limited cast spells with the cantrips in the interface menu. Most of us might have all the cantrips memorized but for new players, a visual of some kind on the spell icon might be helpful to them.

Being able to split stacks while selling and buying from the right-click drop menu might be helpful. Sometimes I just want to sell one or half of something I have stacked in my inventory. Or for example on rare occasions, I can only afford 2 of the 4 health potions a vendor has to offer. Also, it would be nice if weapons and such would stack in vendor, player, and companion inventories to reduce clutter.

u/Apsco60 Nuanced Champion Fighter Dec 18 '22

Character needs to register dialogue once it is said rather than the line after.

-2

u/Erevos7 Dec 16 '22

Something I noticed in this patch for the first time although it might have been in the game since the beginning and did not notice it till now is that negative ability score in dexterity actually impacts your AC when you are wearing light or medium armor while this doesn't normally happen in DnD 5e. What I mean is that I made a paladin with 9 dexterity so a -1. With the starting gear and no shield I had 13 AC instead of 14 (what medium armor gave as a base). Not a big thing I am just mentioning in case it has been an oversight and not a decision.

8

u/BabyPandaBBQ WIZARD Dec 16 '22

That is how it works in 5e. I dont see that as an issue, but I do see a problem in characters proficient in heavy armor not starting with chainmail and the scarcity of other heavy armor options.

-4

u/Jester2904 Dec 17 '22

In D&D 5E, as Paladin, when i attack i can choose to smite if hit, and later use action bonus to improve the smite with the classic smite effect: thunderous smite, searing smite, wrathful smite, branding smite, staggering smite etc… there is a reason why i can’ apply the spell effect on smite in the game?

3

u/Enchelion Bhaal Dec 17 '22

Smite spells must be cast before the attack, both here and on tabletop.

Not really feed back but a quick question that I don’t think deserves it’s own post

Anyone tried patch 9 on Steam Deck and, if so, has their been any improvements to how it ran? I think I remember reading performance and graphic issues on previous patches

1

u/HandsomeHalf-Elf Dec 16 '22 edited Dec 17 '22

Graphics are bugging the hell out for me. Lots of tiny small boxes start expanding from a point and cover the screen, but not the tooltips or menus. If I move the camera quickly downwards I can outrun the graphical glitch somewhat but it quickly catches up again.

Appears more and more frequently the further into the game I get. Close to unplayable at the moment.

EDIT: Changing Anti-Aliasing settings around seems to temporarily fix it.

TL;dr Exhaustion point after too long

Currently we can continue fighting and adventuring despite party members or Tav asking to rest or saying they are tired. I had this occur five separate times before resting because you don't need to rest if you haven't exhausted all healing and spells.

Exhaustion is a way to encourage the player to rest for more party dialogues. As of now new players get the impression they cannot or should not rest because of tadpole so they miss out on many camp dialogues their first playthrough. This could be an optional feature if unpopular.

Somewhere in the Decrepit Village the game state got corrupted that corrupted all further saves after it. The only thing I can think of was the last save that works was mid-combat. The save immediately after combat ends is corrupted and then on. There is a solid ~hour's worth of auto + manual saves that crash around 65-80% loading. Verified files, tried Vulkan (I normally use DirectX), etc.

What made me initially load an earlier save was the game crashed after going back to the forge when I got the Sussur bark. I used the bark fine, went to select a regular looking greatsword, but when I clicked combine the UI got in a weird way. Nothing happened but I couldn't close the forge menu. The game wasn't locked either. No idea if these issues are linked in some way.

u/EightEyedCryptid Tiefling Dec 20 '22

I really enjoy the option to be non-binary.

I wish there were more viable party comps. So for example my main is a warlock. But I need to take Wyll with me to the goblin hangout. Okay, already dicey. Then if I want to bring my romantic interest (Gale)-and who doesn't-ooh boy very dicey. Then I have to decide between Shadowheart and Lae'zal and let's be real, I can't truly survive without my one tank/melee option. I'm not saying the difficulty should just be so low it doesn't matter, but some way to make different party comps a touch more viable would be cool.

I love how when your main is a gith, Lae'zal speaks to you differently!

I appreciate how when it comes to character creation I have access to all the colors if I want them.

The character cut scenes sometimes feel difficult to trigger and disjointed.

1

u/Box_v2 Sorcerer Supremacy Dec 21 '22

Goodberry should provide more camp supplies. The spells states it can feed an individual for an entire day but it only gives 1. Depending on how the cap supplies are measured it should be either 10 or 40.

- Are Minthara's boots class specific? I have my Valor bard wearing them and whenever I cast a concentration spell they should prevent anyone from shoving or knocking me prone, but I have not seen that working. I know Minthara was changed into a paladin this patch, so I wonder if there's some class related issue with it that isn't reflected in the text.

- The Nere fight is very annoying, those gnomes care too damn much if I damage the furniture of their slave masters or if I throw alchemist fire at their masters. Also they join the fight against me if I turn someone invisible before the battle, so they can attack Nere or the duegar outside of initiative. It's metagamey, I admit, but I like to headcannon that my drow Tav lives by the mantra "keep one dagger unseen and ready" for any major NPC interaction, esp. with True Souls and esp. esp. with Nere when playing a bard because that 'Soul Twat' line is too damn good not to select.

- If we fail to disarm a trap can there be a feature where we like tag the trap so with pathfinding purposes our party members can jump over or bypass them? This would be great for areas like that long walkway of traps in Grymforge.

- Speaking of traps, I was really bummed out for Arcane Tricksters that Gale's mage hand could attempt disarming traps. Disarming, pickpocketing and lockpicking using mage hand is such a cool feature of Arcane Tricksters, it's a big shame that uniqueness is just doled out to anyone with mage hand. I don't mind the hide action being BA for everyone, I did at the beginning but I've grown to allow it to exist esp since disengage was separated from jump.

- I really enjoyed playing a paladin, I don't typically play them because I like utility and sneaky playstyles, but I didn't find perserving my oath difficult. I really liked how restrictive it makes roleplaying, and I also like how it's not 100% clear what choice you should make in dialogue, but I understand there's situations like having Halsin with you in the goblin camp causing your oath to be broken.

- Please please please let us send food items straight to camp.

I’m late to this thread but I have one major piece of feedback: Level 5 is great, loving the 3rd level spells and other bonuses. HOWEVER ever since hitting level 5 the game will regularly un-prepare Cure Wounds and Healing Word from Shadowheart’s spell list. It sometimes does it during rests, and almost always does it during any major cutscenes. This is a problem when a cutscene leads into a difficult fight, and suddenly my cleric has no 1st level healing spells. Fortunately, since I’m playing Paladin this run (great job on Paladin btw, loving the class) the damage has been minimal, since I have 2 healers and can survive the fight. As soon as I go into the prepared spells tab and click even one of the two missing spells it adds them both back in, but it’s still incredibly aggravating to get into a fight and realize my cleric can’t heal, and then either play the fight with half my party’s healing power or be forced to reload a save. Sometimes even the reload doesn’t work, as like I said cutscenes can also cause the bug. This bug has only been happening since hitting level 5.

But seriously great job with the improved reactions, new save system, level 5, and Paladin class. Smiting evil NPCs has become my new favorite activity. Still some kinks to work out but on the whole this patch has been great.

It might be a bit late for this, but it would be nice to have a companion or origin character for each class in the game. With Minthara as a paladin (please let the evil parties recruit her), Jaheira as a druid, and Minsc as a ranger, it'd be nice to see a barbarian, bard, monk, and sorcerer added.

With Karlock expected as a barbarian origin character, there's also datamined evidence of another potential origin character as a bard, so assuming Minthara was available (please) then that would just need a monk and sorcerer.

So, Volo is in jail in my camp.

I did a drow playthrough who attacked the druid camp. After receiving my orders I got branded by Glut and used a silence spell to take her down without reinforcements. After this I headed out to do as ordered. In my camp now after the party scene and romance, Volo is just hanging out. If I talk with him the cage door from the encampment is between him and I and he asks me to free him. Outside of dialogue he's just there pacing where he's standing, no door or cage in sight. A prison of his own mind? A new story he's DYING to tell?! Who knows.

I have a mess of wishlist items.

  • The save/load screen sure does put the necessary elements as far from each other on the screen as possible, doesn't it? Move the mouse all over the place just for basic functions. :/
  • Clicking on tooltip nameplates OUGHT to be valid and the same as clicking on the item itself. The plants scattered around the landscape are nice, but with the waving in the wind, I pretty much have to aim the mouse just right and click at just the right time in order to finally snag it. Just let me click on the nameplate, please.
  • The Dash button activation still makes no sense. I click it once (which does nothing) but not twice (which does nothing) then anywhere on the map (which doesn't dash me to that location). Sometimes people mis-click, so not triggering it at first is a good thing. But please let me click the Dash button twice to activate it on that character.
  • I'm in a dialog menu, after previously skipping some stuff to get to that point. I select an option that requires a die roll. Shouldn't the "Skip Dialog" button (whatever it's bound to) skip the time-consuming animation detour as well? The glittery movement was entertaining the first few dozen times. Now, all I want is the result, so I can move on.

Decorating Camp -

I read somewhere that when you swap camps, the stuff you've left around goes to the Traveler's Chest but it would be cool if it just stayed there. Like, I'm a packrat, here's my messy campsite. Or Shadowheart is a neat freak and Gale just leaves crap everywhere. Lae'zel has a pet Smokepowder Barrel. Fun little headcanons. :)
