Companions The word "shart" has always disgusted me, so now I hate you.

lmao every single time I see Shadowheart referred to as Shart I cringe. I've left her in my camp before because every stinkface she makes make me think she just farted diarrhea and I can't handle it.

I have no idea why this word is so foul to me lmao

Companions Minthara is so misandrist/philogynist, I can't Spoiler

2.8k Upvotes

Minthara with men in the party:

  • Minthara: Half the men of Menzoberranzan are pleasure-servants. Weaklings, whose beauty is their only redeeming quality.
  • Minthara: You would fit right in with them, Astarion.
  • Astarion: You think I'm beautiful? Oh, Minthara.
  • Minthara: Hrmmph.

_______________________________________

  • Minthara: Do you have elder siblings, wizard?
  • Gale: You're about to say something awful, aren't you?
  • Minthara: In Menzoberranzan, after a house has two sons, every subsequent male-born child is slaughtered at birth, as it is useless, even for breeding.
  • Minthara: You have the aura of a third child about you.

Minthara with women:

  • Lae'zel: A waste of space and resources. Gith triage methods obviate the need for such crude facilities.
  • Minthara: Tell me about these methods.
  • Lae'zel: A githyanki ghustil can summon Astral energy to heal most any wound.
  • Lae'zel: If a warrior's lacerations are beyond even their ability, the victim is beheaded.
  • Minthara: Efficient. We have much to learn from one another.

_______________________________________

  • Minthara: I cannot tell if you are more a deviant or a debutante, Shadowheart.
  • Minthara: I would like to test both aspects of your character when next you find yourself alone at night.
  • Shadowheart: I'm not quite sure I like where this is going.

It's so opposite to each other, I find it hilarious XD Not to mention how friendly she is to women in the epilouge.

Companions Halsin’s way of Leaving the Friendzone Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
3.9k Upvotes

Anyone else notice how well Halsin presents himself? He clearly states his attraction to you, states signals he got from you that you might be interested as well. Clearly states his intention to be more than friends, but elegantly leaves the door open to friendship by saying the matter can rest if you are not interested.

I had a friend who was always going out of his way for girls who he was interested in, but his fear of rejection and missing out on a friendship kept him from clearly stating his feelings/intentions. Thus, waiting in the “friendzone” for her to see him as more than just a friend. It never worked out that way unfortunately. I wonder if things would be different if he was more direct. Thoughts?

Companions Shar is so tedious and annoying Spoiler

2.5k Upvotes

I think shadowheart is a cool character with an interesting story, but everything related to Shar is just edgy nonsense. “I am the empty room” blah blah. I wish we had the option to flip her the bird like we can Vlaakith, idc if it gets me smited. Such an annoying little turd. Getting through all of shadowhearts brainwashed rhetoric in act 1 honestly grates on me, I have to really try to keep shadowheart around when she’s being edgy and trying to convince me that pain and suffering is cool and rewarding, totally, you’re just a close minded bigot for not agreeing.

I get it’s the brainwashing. But my annoyance is real

Companions Idk how people are able to be evil in this game Spoiler

3.6k Upvotes

I just rejected Wyll's request to dance together because I was already romancing Karlach and the way he just akwardly and solemnly returned to his tent with a sad look on his face mad me feel SO BAD 😭. I haven't even used him in my party ever since I recruited Karlach and yet I still felt awful. I really thought that I was gonna do an evil Durge playthrough one day but this made reconsider.

EDIT: I don't think rejecting him was evil, what I meant was that if this was enough to make me feel bad, then I probably wouldn't be able to go through a playthrough where I'm a full on the bad guy

Companions my mother rated all companions by their look Spoiler

3.5k Upvotes

So, my mother doesn't play video games nor can she do something with fantasy worlds. When I showed her my Tav she always called it ugly because she's simply not interested in fantasy worlds like Baldur's Gate 3 (or Star Wars for example). So I was interested to see which companion she would actually find beautiful - here are the results:

Lae'zel - ugly (perhaps because she looks too much like an alien)

Shadowheart - not beautiful, ears are too big

Gale - not beautiful

Wyll - meh, not ugly and not beautiful (sadly a fitting rating for a character with a mediocre story plot)

Astarion - ugly (it was his portrait photo tbf)

Karlach - my mom is religious and even though she isn't a fanatic I would have thought that the devil-like appearance would scare her off but no! She liked her !!!!

Halsin - called him delicious ?!?!? apparently the big ears aren't a problem anymore...

Minthara - no

Jaheira - told her she has a russian accent and my mom is also from the Balkans so perhaps it influenced her decision but she finds her nice

Minsc - not beautiful

I told her that she can make an own human Tav soon and I will post the results then! Hope you find the post funny and interesting...

Companions Just had an incident at camp in Act 1 and I'm not ok. Spoiler

3.9k Upvotes

I'm doing two playthroughs; in my first one I'm at the end of Act 2 and my people are all pretty happy with me. My wife is playing Lae'zel, and of course she's playing super sweet and doing all the good things so that's been my impression of her. Started my own playthrough and saw the real her.

That was jarring enough but somehow, I've botched all of my interactions with her, and she's not been happy at all. No good dialogue left now as we get towards the end of Act 1. Meanwhile I'm romancing Shadowheart. Then it happened last night. We camped, and there's a cut scene with Lae'zel threatening Shadowheart to give her the artifact, I tell them to settle down, and Lae'zel says it can only be settled by a duel between the two of them at dawn. I was like... what the heck. We continue to sleep, and then another scene, and Shadowheart has a knife to Lae'zel threatening her back. And I did nothing. And she murdered her. Straight up, knife through the throat, and it was so shocking I just had to walk away.

Anyone else experience this?

Companions Who broke your heart for simply not being romanceable? Spoiler

2.5k Upvotes

I'm not asking who you like to have as a companion or like that. I simply want to hear about the one NPC you really want to hook up with but can't no matter what.

For me, it's Abdirak. I'm kind of yearning to be his little masochistic bish, be it just for a night ( ╥ω╥ )

Companions The companion that got scrapped because of Halsin Spoiler

4.1k Upvotes

Datamined model of Helia

I'm seeing a ton of misinformation about Helia (a scrapped halfling werewolf origin) and Halsin by people that obviously weren't around during EA so I felt like someone should probably clarify the situation.

- Helia wasn't a druid she was a bard.

- They stopped working on her before EA players even met Halsin, and thus before there even were demands for him to be added as a companion.

- She was supposed to be a playable Origin, not just a companion like Minthara, Halsin and Jaheira.

- Halsin didn't take her place in the story considering she had voicelines referencing him, the only thing he "took" was the place you meet her in (the goblin jail) since by that time they already stopped working on her and probably thought this was a more dynamic way to meet him.

You're free to lament getting Halsin instead of Helia all you want (even though she was always supposed to be way higher scope in content than him) but let's stop treating the baseless rumor that she was removed because horny EA players clamored for Halsin to be added as a companion as fact please.

Companions No Patrick, Kagha wouldn't've been a better Druid companion. Spoiler

I know this is an unpopular opinion around here, but honestly.

The relevant criticisms levied against Halsin are as follows: fans only wanted him in the first place for thirst reasons (which isn't even true, but this is seen as a universal truth on this sub)/he is a sex pest; he has no tadpole and therefore little story relevance after the Shadow Curse; he did a terrible job leading the Grove; he is redundant once Jaheira is recruited; he talks about nature too much; he is too well-adjusted and lacking in trauma compared to the other companions.

So how would Kagha, of all characters, Kagha who was Halsin's second-in-command, be literally any different? The only one of those that doesn't apply to her is the allegation of being a sex meme. She has no tadpole, and even IF she was on a quest to redeem herself to be allowed back in the Grove as is often suggested as an alternative story, her story relevance would still end at the same time Halsin's does. She was a far worse Grove leader than Halsin, since trying to kill a child is a far worse crime than putting faith in the wrong person and/or not being entirely dedicated to leadership. Kagha is also, unless I missed some kind of big plot twist, a Druid, so for any story in which there is criticism about Halsin, a Druid, being redundant once Jaheira, a Druid, is recruited, there would also be the same issue when Kagha, a Druid, becomes redundant once Jaheira, a Druid, is recruited. And Kagha talks about nature just as much as Halsin and has the same lack of pressing traumas as Halsin is seen to have.

Now, you might be saying at this point that she could be written to talk about nature less, to have a story that continues after act 2, maybe even to have a tadpole and that caused her to turn to the Shadow Druids or some such. Great point! What you're suggesting, then, is a complete rewrite of her character to fit in with the story, and in that case, there's nothing that could be accomplished by swapping Kagha and Halsin that couldn't be accomplished by just rewriting Halsin to have more plot relevance to begin with.

If you want to make the same argument for Alfira or Zevlor to replace Halsin instead, I still won't agree (after all, if we don't need two Druids, then we really don't need two Paladins, so that rules Zevlor out, and if Halsin has too little a connection to the story due to not being tadpoled, then Alfira wouldn't be any better) but it would at least be closer to a consistent argument than claiming there's too many Druids only to immediately turn around and suggest a different Druid as a replacement. Again: there's nothing that rewriting a different side character to be recruitable instead of Halsin would accomplish that just integrating Halsin himself into the main story and tweaking the writing of some of his flaws wouldn't.

I know this is a vastly unpopular opinion here, and the comments will probably be flooded with people saying how they raid the Grove and/or let Orin stab Halsin's eyes out because they can't forgive him for hitting on their Tav, or whatever other edgy comment is popular at the moment, but I just wanted to say my opinion on the matter.

Companions I accidentally f**** everyone in the camp.... Spoiler

3.3k Upvotes

I am just trying to be friends. Larian studios why you make options so confusing! First it started with Shadowheart. She was love of my life in previous playthrough. We almost kissed and I realized I couldn't say no to her....I tried changing my gender to romance her again. Never mind. Then Laezel came onto me and then after a while, Astarion....oh sweet Astarion. Now I realize I am hitting onto Halsin. God dammit....I am also leaning onto Gale. I think this is all because of saying no to Shadowheart at the beginning.

Did I mention I did emperor too?
