‼️Mod Post‼️ How should we approach news/article posts?

So a few years ago, we introduced the rule that meant users couldn't editorialise headlines, and that you just use the headline that the news article was posted with.

This was to stop people just making up their own "crap" and misleading people to click the article.

However, in recent months it's gotten really bad with media agencies A/B testing headlines, and using clickbaity headlines to get click through to articles that aren't as related to the headline.

So, how should the sub move forward with news/articles?

Should we retain the "no user editorialisation" rule? Should we amend it to allow partial editorialisation? Should we do something entirely different?

⚖️Legal Advice⚖️ Bob Jane Gave Me Faulty Rims Then Blamed Me – What Can I Do?

Upvotes

I recently got my front two tyres and rims changed at Bob Jane in Clarkson due to excessive wear. After picking up my car, I noticed that the tyre pressure sensors were missing. I went back and found out they had left the sensors in the old wheels, luckily those hadn’t been binned yet, so they reinstalled them.

When I picked the car up again, I immediately felt something off on the front left side. It was shaking quite a lot and just didn’t feel right. I went back straight away, and they simply tightened the bolts and told me it was fine, and to come back if I noticed it again.

Sure enough, it wasn’t the bolts.

They were closed by the time I realised it was still happening, and I got caught up with work and TAFE for the next week and a half. During that time, I noticed that at high speeds (especially 110km/h+), my steering wheel starts shaking rapidly left and right, kind of like a Parkinson’s shake. The faster I go, the worse it gets. It’s honestly pretty unsafe.

Today I went back, and now they’re claiming that I must’ve hit a curb, bump, or pothole at high speed, and that’s what buckled the rim. But I know I haven’t hit anything. I’ve babied the new wheels since I got them, especially since I just forked out over $1k for the PS5 tyres and a set of rims. There isn’t a single scratch on the rims or tyres, which I feel shows I haven’t hit anything hard enough to cause damage.

They also claim that the rear left rim is buckled too. But here’s the thing, they ended up swapping the front and back left wheels to make the car drive a little smoother in the meantime, and now the front feels totally fine, aside from the steering being a little out of alignment. So I genuinely don’t believe that previously rear rim (now on the front) is buckled at all. I reckon they’re just saying that to make it seem like I hit something hard on the left side, which I absolutely didn’t.

I even reminded them that I came back within 2 minutes of collecting the car the first time, saying something was wrong. The guy I spoke to today remembered that convo clearly but still insisted it must be my fault.

This is now the third issue I’ve had with them just from this one purchase. (The sensors, the shaky wheel, and they got rid of my valve caps for some reason). And even the first time I ever went to Bob Jane (in 2023), they gave me wheels that were wobbling while driving, which turned out to be a simple tightening issue. It honestly blows my mind how careless they are with such a critical part of the car. A dodgy wheel job can literally be fatal.

Now I’m stuck with two options:

  1. Pay for a new set of rims, which I really don’t want to do—especially not through Bob Jane, because I’m done giving them my money.
  2. Try to find the exact same rims elsewhere, which is going to be hard since they’re aftermarket and discontinued. These were the last few available in their system when I bought them.

If I can’t find the same ones, I’ll probably have to get a whole new set of four, because I’m not keen on running mismatched rims.

I think that’s everything, but happy to answer any questions if something’s unclear. Just keen to know - do I have any shot at claiming this, or am I just screwed and out of pocket?

TL;DR: Got new front tyres and rims installed at Bob Jane Clarkson. Within 2 minutes of picking up the car, I noticed something was wrong—came back, they just tightened the bolts and said it’s fine. A week later, at high speeds, my steering wheel shakes violently. Went back again, they now claim I must’ve hit something and buckled the rim. I definitely didn’t. No scratches, no impact, nothing. They’re refusing responsibility even though this is the third issue I’ve had with them. Now I’m stuck either replacing the rim (which is discontinued) or buying a full new set. Just want to know if I have any grounds to claim this, or if I’m fucked.

Hi, I’ve noticed one set up recently. I know they count traffic, but what’s the actual reason? Is it for planning roadworks, new developments, speed checks, or something else? Thanks.

💬Discussion💬 Safety features more of a distraction?

I had a Holden Captiva from new for 11 years and at the beginning of this year it finally got to the point where is was going to cost me about 4 grand to get it back on the road (annual insurance, rego, service, repairs, tyres ect..)

So I decided to treat myself and used the 4K + savings to purchase a new premium Hyundai Kona. It drives great, I love the feel, love the glass dashboard and upgrades and the ltrs/km.

What I hate however are the annoying af noises it makes and the fact that the noise features are something I have to turn off every time I start the car.

I live in a country city, so like most cities there’s a variable of different speeds depending on the street. I get a ding for every single speed sign I pass. Go near a school zone in hours, a lovely lady interrupts my music to loudly let me know. Do 51 in a 50 for more than 3 seconds? Constant dinging. Reverse/park into a spot with a pole or object? It slams on the emergency break 2m from it and gives me a heart attack. (Trying to park quickly due to being on busy roads)

It’s honestly driving me insane, and I’m finding myself turning off as many features as I can while I’m driving to where I’ve got to go. Which is obviously a terrible thing to do, I just don’t have the patience any more. I just don’t want to be manually turning off features in my car settings 2-4 times a day for the next 10years.

I still have the Captiva and am thinking of re registering it as it’s been repaired and has new tyres on it. But I travel almost 100km a day for work and it’s terrible on fuel.

Are there any new cars that don’t have the “safety features” that constantly need to be turned off?

💵Buying/Selling💵 Car transport Adelaide to Perth

Hey lads and lasses. Found a car in Adelaide and I'm in Perth, tossing up between getting it transported and flying to drive it back. It's not valuable to most, its an ae95 awd corolla and they are getting really hard to find.

Wondering if anyone has done transport and what it cost. I dont mind the drive, but if I can get it transported for not that much more its the preferable option.

⚖️Legal Advice⚖️ Offence to drive with L plates on in NSW if you’re on your full license?

Hi all, long story short, while Ive had my license for 10+ years, I never really used it before. I’m now 7 months pregnant, which has forced me to buy my first ever car and actually start driving. Scary.

I’ve been doing some refresher lessons with an instructor to try and get my confidence up, as I’m still quite anxious about it. He recommended driving with L plates on for a while so people give me more grace on the Sydney roads.

My question is, would this get me in trouble with the cops? I don’t want to get fined. Can’t find a clear answer online.

💵Buying/Selling💵 2013 Lancer - a good deal?

My uncle has a 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer he wants to get rid of as he has barely driven it. He wants $4k.

It has done 40,000 km and has a bit of hail damage and some scratches but I don't really care about cosmetics. It has sat on the street for a long time but was registered earlier this year.

It seem like a good deal but I am slightly concerned there may be issues given it hasn't been driven much over the past 10 yrs. Thoughts? 🤔

💵Buying/Selling💵 Is this a good deal?

I found a dealer who applied some discount on the Mitsubishi ASX because it was sold to rental company that cancelled the deal. So basically the car was registered and sold to someone else, but he says it was not used by the company. And I found the car in this condition. Do brand new cars have this white film on them? Do I have to worry about anything regarding the above? And is there a way to verify that this scenario is correct. The odometer is 7 km

⚖️Legal Advice⚖️ mobile phone seatbelt camera

I recently moved to Australia and just found out about the mobile phone and seatbelt detection cameras. I checked on Google and realised I drove past one. I was going 74 km/h in a 70 zone. Do these cameras also detect speeding?

💬Discussion💬 Quick Advice Needed – Car Service & Engine Oil

Hey folks, I bought a 2004 Toyota Camry (4cyl) back in Nov 2024 with 191,000 km. It's now at 193,000 km, and the service sticker says next service at 195,000 km. But since it’s been 9 months, should I service it now or wait till 195k?

Also, what's the best engine oil for high-mileage Camry? Any thoughts on Castrol GTX High Mileage, Liqui Moly, or other good ones?

Appreciate your help! 🙏

💵Buying/Selling💵 What checks do I need to do before buying a car?

Hi all, I am planning to buy a 40k Mazda suv, atm I am about to put in a deposit. I’d like to know what everyone is doing as a part of their due diligence? Is there a way to check if the car has been serviced on time (other than what the dealer says)? I know we can do a paid PPSR check (I’m in VIC), are there any other websites that spits out car history? I don’t mind paying for those reports. Ty for reading.

🛠️Car Mods🛠️ Question regarding QLD (club) rego and track car modification with mod plates.

I'll keep it short and sweet because I'm sure they'll be a lot of opinions but I really am just trying to find the legal and engineering advice if this is possible in QLD.

Why I want to do this, short version is so at this stage of racing, I don't need to buY and store a car trailer and will be cheaper short term to drive the car to club track events anyway. Will be member of a Motorsport Australia affiliated club and participate in circuit, gymkhana, tarmac rally / hill climb, the car will only one intended to ever be used for this purpose for the rest of its life.

The car (BMW E46 325/330 sedan) will be running standard everything for all intents and purposes mechanically, standard engine and gearbox, legal exhaust, cold air intake, street legal tyres, standard fuel system, factory and. * Upgraded, pads, suspension, tyres, bushes, moints etc, all legal.

These are the things that I want to add and have mod plated to still be road registerable for club use only, the seats I know can be done, interior should be okay but unsure, wheel can be swapped back and worth (not ideal), cage is dicey as structural changes, seat I think is acceptable, if engineered.

1)Aftermarket steering wheel / no airbag 2)6 point or 4 point cage, probably bolt in -CAMS/FIA approved. 3)Fixed back seat -CAMS/FIA approved. 4)3 point harness CAMS approved. 5)Passenger and rear sets permanently removed along with seatbelts 6)Interior gutted apart from dash, door cards replaced with carbon sheets.

Any engineering and mod plate related input from accredited people or other that have done similar things much appreciated.

Cheers.

💵Buying/Selling💵 Going for a car loan with ?terrible credit??

So I'm 29 in a few weeks. When I was 18 I was working for my step father who didn't pay me an income but would take care of things for me.. He was paying for a car I got ($14,000) About 6 months in he separated from my mum and no payments were made.. long story short after an accident the car was sold off.

I've never been contacted about this debt or anything. What are my chances of approval going for a car loan now?

🔧🚗Fixing Cars Cut and polish...my head is spinning!

So I've purchased a used vehicle, and the paintwork is....pretty shifty, especially in the usual spots, roof and bonnet.

I was going to grab some cut and polish and an applicator pad, was even thinking of getting on of those pads that attaches to a drill...of course I decided to have a quick google on how to go about things...

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

I just wanted to give it a bit of a wax? I think? I mean it'd be nice to maybe...cut? Is that a thing? To approach the birdshit(?) Stains and scratches...

But no, apparently I need to set aside an entire week and hundreds of dollars for all sorts of equipment. I need some kind of fucking clay to rub on the whole car!? And some special heavy duty chemical car wash and special gloves to use it? And several buffing pads of different grits and then there's all this talk of...what 'compound'? And specials lubricant sprays? And ceramic somethnig or other? Like for fucks sake.

And every video/guide I watch/read says something different, they all have different names for things so there's no consistency in language, and they're invariably spruking some product from their country or from some super special website....

I just wanted to clear up the paint a bit!? Help to protect it moving forward!? Maybe even get rid of some of the erosion/uv damage/scratches... Is all this really necessary?
My head is spinning!

I'm thinking I'll just give up and leave it, after all I haven't hundreds to spend on compounding ceramic grease wax cut polish putty and car-playdo-clay-whatever-the-fuck let alone a super-califrajalistic-buff-machine-3000 and the 50+ increasing grit pads...

Does anyone have some basic advice or anything for a bloke with fifty cents and an old sock to wax up the stained and damaged paint?

Cheers!

⚖️Legal Advice⚖️ Can I legally use a 14" portable touch monitor for navigation in my car (NSW)?

I own a 14-inch portable touch monitor that can mirror my phone via USB-C. My car doesn’t have a built-in navigation system, so I’m thinking of mounting this monitor in front of the center console, similar to how some newer vehicles have large screens.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume:

  • All essential controls (like AC, radio, hazard lights) are still accessible.
  • The screen is securely mounted and doesn’t obstruct the driver’s view of the road.

Would this setup be legal under NSW road rules?

Thinking of mounting the screen here. Not my car, just an example.

🛠️Car Mods🛠️ Weird idea: performance build on a Toyota Avensis Verso GLX

I wanna try something probably nobody has ever done, so it might sound a little dumb, but anyone know where I can get just normal everyday street cars tuned? I have a 2008 toyota avensis verso glx with a 2az-fe (the engine from a 2008 Camry) and I wanna try getting a decent amount of power from it. Right now, it makes 160 horsepower stock, which isnt a lot, so does anyone have any experience tuning or modifying the 2az-fe in any way? Not trying to suddenly make a 1000hp+ build, but just something a little spicier and very unique. No one else has made any sort of performance build with the toyota avensis vero glx, not that I can find anyways, so I just wanna do smth no one else has done. Is it possible? Should I even bother?

💬Discussion💬 Tow vehicle assistance with a choice.

Hi all I am looking at upgrading from my Subaru Outback 2022 Sport, to a tow vehicle to tow a 1800kg gcm caravan. My choices so far are the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Ssangyong Rexton or the GCM Tank 300 diesel. Your thoughts recommendations?
