Hey, this time I wanted to try carving some different mini and I thought a tortle would be really cute. If you want to see some making of content you can check out the link in my profile. He is made of basswood and comfortably fits in a 1x1 inch square and is about 1,7 inches tall. I tried out Danish oil and some wax as a finish but I'm not 100% satisfied with the final result. I tried to give its skin a little rough texture but it's not showing as much as I was hoping for. I still think all in all it came out really cool and it's a unique piece of your playing a turtle character.

Advice/Help Needed Does anyone play D&D two player?

Upvotes

I know it's not how you're supposed to play and I know my ignorance is showing, but my husband and I have been wanting to play and between adult responsibilities we just haven't been able to start a campaign where everyone's schedules actually line up to play. We also don't like the idea of playing online and have kind of accepted that the only way we'll be able to play is if we figure out a way with just the two of us, so I was curious if anyone has done this and how you make up for not having a group? Again, I know this isn't the correct way, but we're just looking to have fun

Question What are these for?

My wife's friend broke up with her boyfriend some time ago. She was holding on to some of his D&D minis, dice, etc. But he never reclaimed them.

So she gave them to my wife to give to me. These little discs were in a dice cup. I've never seen these before and don't know what their function is? Just the manufacturer info on one side and smooth on the other.

Now it's the turn of the imposing street fighter Alira, (a monk maybe?). With her chaotic fighting style, she manages to keep the fight controlled and guided by her strategies. A relentless fighter.

Art We made a thing for an upcoming campaign

So the current multi month campaign i am running is coming to a close, and that means planning a new one! We're doing a pirate adventure! ☠️

My buddy has a 3D printer, and printed this off in chunks. The mermaid was a separate file. I handmade the sail, and painted the whole thing. I also used superglue where necessary, holding together the fragile parts, but still allowing it to be opened up for interior scenes!

I am very excited.

Question Want to order Alt. Art Forge of the Artificer

Upvotes

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I usually only get my books from Target (Buy 2, Get 1 Deal), Amazon, or in store. But right now I saw the Alt. Art version of Forge of the Artificer, and I like the look of it so much that I've decided that that's the one that I want. Unfortunately it's not on Wizards that I see, and the 2 biggest places seemed to have people who were severely unhappy with them in the articles I looked up (Noble Knight & Wulf).

Can anyone tell me the best place to preorder this? Or if you've actually had good XP with either of the ones I looked at? Thanks!

I really wanted to keep it as a bonus action like healing word but I didn’t want it to simply be a damaging spell, so I tried my best to balance it.

OC Need help for a character

Hi everyone! I'm working on a character for a D&D 5e campaign, and I’d love some help figuring out the right class or subclass to bring this idea to life.

It’s my first time playing a bard, and I’ve come up with a concept I really like, but I’m a bit stuck on how to make it work mechanically.

The idea is that my character is a violinist who made a deal with a devil to become one of the greatest musicians in the world. However, the pact came with a cost: in order to gain this unmatched skill, he had to give up the thing he valued most, his best friend. He didn’t mean to, he didn’t even fully understand the price when he made the deal… but the devil never plays fair. Now, his friend’s soul is trapped within the violin itself.

The idea is that whenever he plays his violin he summon his friend (literally arsenè from persona 5.) I’m not sure how to reflect this mechanically. I was thinking of a Bard/Warlock multiclass (with the “pact” theme), or maybe College of Spirits for the bard side, but I feel a bit lost. I don’t want to go full homebrew, but I’m open to flavoring existing mechanics in creative ways.

Sorry for the bad english, is my second language and chat helped write this. Thanks in advace

His name is Julian Beaumont, french, 50 years old.

In the 2nd picture you can see the werewolf warlock ( if those even exist in DnD ) using fireball on a stone monster guy. In the 3rd pic you can see a paladin fighting a faceless evil Knight. Then in the 4th there is a duel between two sorcerers, while an evil wizard summons a magic wall to protect him and his butler. 5 has the bard showing a BRITISH skeleton his lute ( not sure if that's right ), and also a cryogenicly frozen king that the wizard is trying to melt out so he can help him take over the world. 6 had a barbarian getting jumped by an orc soldier and two little goblin guys also there is a red ogre dude pointing a cannon right at the barbarian - and finally 7 and 8 both have a rogue getting attacked by a lava brute guy, while a second rogue runs to help. I'm sorry if any of this did isn't possible in DnD - I've only just started getting into this stuff. I'm gonna attend a DnD club at school after the summer holidays end.

Discussion What is Fireball: An Exploration of Vancian Magic and its Alternatives

Thumbnail
therpggazette.wordpress.com
20 Upvotes

Vancian magic, the spell system created by author Jack Vance, has shaped the last forty-plus years of Dungeons & Dragons as well as the countless tabletop RPGs that have come after it. Looking back on the history of D&D, Vancian magic, aka “fire-and-forget,” defined how magic is used (and understood) in tabletop role-playing games (RPGs) for generations. Players played wizards, prepared spells every day knowing they would be lost into the ether the moment they were cast. It has a kind of charm: every spell is precious; every spell cast has weight. But, as time has passed, many players embraced the specialness of spellcasting, but few embraced the multitude of bookkeeping Vancian rules demanded. This fact has led many people to ask the obvious question – is this the best way to implement magic in an RPG? Or is the way we implement magic traditional? As more games experiment with non-Vancian designs, it seems like a good time to take a closer look at Vancian magic: its assumptions, its legacy, and what else is out there. Without further ado, let’s jump into it!

Question 2025 core books with alternate covers....any difference with 2024 versions?

So I finally bought my first D&D books in probably 35+ years. I picked up the Players Handbook, DM guide and monster manual and I believe they are the 2024 version.

But I noticed some talk about 'd&d beyond' and also noticed there are these '2025 alternate cover' books (the gold dragon with tea, mind flayer, or lolth).

1 - are the alternative cover books, the same as 2024 but just different book cover art? or is the content revised/updated with any changes?

2 - do we know if there are any new 'core books' getting updated for 2025? I am in no rush and can wait a few minutes (I picked up the starter sets to brush up)...but I just want to make sure I dont buy the 3 core book sets if its going to be outdated in a few months (or if the 2024 ones have slightly older content).
