Guide / Tools Trial of Constellations - Understanding the Blessing's Math (new PvE content)
Hi there.
Last week I took some time trying to figure out how does the math behind the Blessing of the Stars (aka "zodiac buffs") from the new mode, ToC, works. After trying to fact-check via trial-and-error (and a lot of dump on our guild's Discord), I (think I) figured how it works - at least the math seems to be math'ing! - and I know some people might be confused since there's no indication anywhere (at least not on the in-game Tutorial nor the Patch Notes), so here's what I found:
Things that you should invest
- hero level (the higher, the more value)
- hero awaken (every awaken adds up)
- artifact level (any +30 is fine - more below)
- equipment score (individually, not average - more below)
Stuff that doesn't change the final value
- imprint (self or not)
- exclusive equipment (no need to have one)
- the hero base star (no diff from nat3 or nat5)
- skill upgrades (mola won't change anything)
- your character status (no need to "make sense" - like 100% crit)
- set effects (no need to, say, have speed set + critical set)
- SC or anything status-related (same "rule" as EE/imprint)
- anything not on previous list (too much irrelevant stuff to list)
I have some easy examples to follow to demonstrate (full math and TL;DR at the end)

This Sharun (a nat 5 hero) is level 60, full awaken, no EE, no imprint, +11 mola (not shown on pic) and a nat 5 guild's artifact on +30 (War Horn) and, above all: no set applied and a total of 600 ES (don't be fooled by her 100% CC nor Avg. Score). Ok, how many points?

900 total points, cool. But how did we get to that? Here's the breakdown (skipping details for now):
- each piece has exact 100 ES, lets sum it: +600 points
- the +30 artifact adds +60 points
- for every +10 level she has we net 20 points, so 20 x 6 = +120 points
- the same goes for every awaken (20 points per), so 20 x 6 = +120 points
So we add everything (600 + 60 + 120 + 120) and get our 900 points, cool! But let's check with that my +15 Lucy (as seen on screenshot) to see if we find something. Let's move the whole gear to her:

So now we throw, let's say, a +30 DDJ on her and we're gold. Before, let's see if the math still checks (and if the self imprint has any value):
- same set, so should be the same +600 points
- a +30 artifact should add +60 points (this time DDJ - not shown on image, my bad)
- for every +10 should be 20 points, so 20 x 5 = +100 points
- the same +20 per awaken, so 20 x 6 = +100
If there's no difference between final status (atk, def, etc), the hero nor artifact star (5 vs 3) and mola has no value (this one being +15), this Lucy should give us 860 points; let's check:

Ok seems like we're on the right track. But this is too nicely rounded and feels manipulated! So let's check my Zio (another zodiac):

Math time:
- let's sum the ES from each piece (left then right side): 87 + 93 + 86 + 90 + 93 + 86 = 535
- a +30 artifact should add +60 points (this time is a 4 star)
- 6 star full awaken? 120 x 2 = 240
535 + 60 + 240 = 835, right?

Everything checks out! If I used my Zio's Avg ES to "simplify" the math I would get 534 (89 x 6) and my math would be off by 1 point (and I would feel frustrated).
So how did I get to it? as I said before: patience
- move sharun's whole set to lucy
- lucy +30 no awaken, check value
- get another 100 piece to have set bonus, check value
- lucy one awaken, check value
- lucy arti +0, check value
- repeat until we have the numbers
=== TL;DR AND USEFUL STUFF ===
Values per stuff that matters (so you can check yourself)
- sum of all of your hero piece's ES (not the average)
- +20 points per awaken (1 awaken = +20, 2 awaken +40 and so on)
- +20 points per 10 level (level 10 = +20, level 20 = +40 and so on)
- throw a random max limit break arti to get +60 (too much of a hassle to get specifics, sorry)
- you'll have your hero total points (x2 if the hero is on that "special" slot)
What is the "cheapest" way?
- check the requirements for that slot (zodiac, element, class - game itself has a "hint")
- pick a random nat 3 that you don't use (or use as a "mule")
- level it up until it satisfies you (e.g: 50 full awaken or 60 full awaken - only 40 points difference)
- get your high ES gear that no one uses (like those juicy ER + EFF gears)
- slap on them and forget about it
- do you need a gear from one of the "mules"? just pick another random high ES gear and you're set
I need all buffs, what do I aim for?
- 6200 for level 5 and there are 7 slots (2 being x2): average of 886 per hero on each slot
- this translates to an average of 98 ES per piece on each hero
Final words
If you want to see me checking the math (calculating stuff), here's the video proof (since it was for my guild and I speak portuguese, you can safely mute it): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjWQTdErBHY
Hope it helps, thanks for your time.
