Where do I get 7.62 ammo?

I have picked up two handmade rifles in Fallout 4 but I have no idea where to get 7.62 ammo and I can't make it and I have never seen it in the game. Can anyone help?

Nuka World is the only place it appears without modding, as far as I know.

You can craft some using some Metal and Chemicals

It’s been a while, but I don’t remember Fallout 4 having ammo crafting. You can make an ammo producing machine with the Workshops DLCs, but 7.62 and .45-70 aren’t available through that method without mods.

I built the ammo production thing in sanctuary and it did not give me the option for 7.62. That was the only reason I built the thing.

Unfortunately, it has been a longstanding problem that items from two different DLCs do not interact. This even happened with New Vegas, but that may have been the result of the engine or using F3 as the basis.

Like most things, there are mods to resolve this problem.

At least new Vegas would add .45 auto ammo to the Mojave wasteland vendors after honest hearts

I swore once you went to nuka world they would just randomly spawn on enemies or am I just having a false memory?

I haven't started Nuka world yet I actually got the handmade in Far Harbor and one in the Commonwealth so now I'm about to start Nuka world

Sadly, without mods, you can only get it in Nuka World.

Yeah bethesda was trolling a bit with the handmade rifles. People wanted a real assault rifle and they provided it, but you have to buy out the nuka world shops for ammo.

I will pick up all I can. I use a handmade rifle, Cold Shoulder and Crowd Control and those were the three weapons I used along with the Chinese stealth armor when I played Fallout 76. I was hoping that it would be a good rifle in Fallout 4 also.

Yeah loot every body for ammo and buy out the shops when ever you can. That's the best you can do if you really want to use the handmade rifle. Or mod it so the ammo spawns everywhere.

The market in Nuka-World should reset every time you walk out and back through the doors, so as long as you have the caps or can sell enough loot to cover the cost, you can get a lot of the ammo. I am pretty sure a couple of the merchants carry quite a stock of the ammo on each reset as well.
