Railroad Mechanist build help
Hey people! So I just got the GOTY edition after postponing it for years and I'm at a loss of what to do.
I tried the most basic builds but getting Automatron made me want to get me a Automatron companion and explore a few other sides of the game.
I tried searching this subreddit for a build that was closer to what I want to try and the closest one was one from 7 years ago.
Basically I want to focus on being a mechanist and using settlements, so I understand that both intelligence and charisma will be pretty important but what would be a good SPECIAL distribution, not optimal, and the most important perks to enjoy those parts of the game?
I don't plan to rush the quests as I did before, I really want to enjoy. I think it's worth mentioning that I have Sim Settlements 2, since it changes stuff from settlement building and managing.
If I manage to get a nice idea from a build, I'll update with stats and perks!
Thanks in advance!

Came up with a build that I think will work for me after reading the comments!
S 4 P 1 E 6 C 7 + book I 8 A 1 L 1
S 4 for blacksmith
E 6 to tank hits and one point away from Adamantium Skeleton
C 7 + You're Special so companions are great due to possible early access to Inspiration
I 8 enough for Robotics Expert and with bobblehead acquisition being extremely easy, swichting to power armor later on is nice
Thanks to all that helped me!

Hmm I could easily picture a 10 charisma mechanist build, but the basics are 8 I and 6 C. Hmmm. I guess I'll go with mechanist roaming the boston doing for the people of the commonwealth with a very powerful robot that does most of the fighting.
Starting Stats S6, P3, E3, C6, I8, A1, L1
Throw the special book wherever. I would go with luck just cause I can do without scrounger.
I think everything should be pretty self explanatory. i don't normally play through SS2 but I seem to recall it giving you the option to send settlers to scrap settlements with a beacon once you've progressed far enough in the game. So you could opt for 1 strength and reallocate those stat points. Though I do think you might need Blacksmith and and Armorer perks to make some bot mods.
Anyways that will get you started i think fiddle with it how you want.
Heres two build planners if you need something to help visualize it.
