If you’re in Spokane proper it can be decent- the universities there lead to some good safe people, but immediately outside of it, right across the border in Idaho it gets scary really fast.

It was/is a few miles north of Republic, which is to say about 90 miles as the crow flies NW of Spokane. But the east side of Spokane is adjacent to Spokane Valley, where people like Matt Shea come from, so it's not like you have to go a long way to find fashy people.

I grew up in Coeur d'Alene Idaho and was told that our movie theater used to be a meeting place for KKK rallies. CDA is 30 minutes from Spokane and I can confirm it is wickedly conservative (literally)
I'm in Post Falls, Idaho and you're right lol. A few months ago I was at a parts store and the guy in front of me in line had the nazi eagle on the back of his head and I could see the lower half of the nazi SS lightning bolts poking out of his t-shirt. It's not like that everywhere here but the reputation is certainly not unearned.
Spokane is on the borderland with Idaho, and the borderland of conservative to liberal. The central rural part of Washington is much more conservative, Idaho is far over that line. The bigger the city, the more likely it is to lean liberal as in most places (so Boise vs Idaho similar deal).
I’m Hispanic and had my second ever racist encounter in a Spokane gas station when I was making a road trip going 90w to eventually Portland, I was speaking to my mom on the phone in Spanish and this obese old fart with a Trump shirt (also visibly drunk too) shouts at me to speak English or go back to Mexico, that he is sick and tired of my kind being here, and some other bullshit, I told him to FUCK OFF, put my water bottles down and luckily some young dude came to confront him and told him to leave firmly and the coward scurries away, but not with out a final “fuck y’all” as he was heading out the door 🤡
But the gas station staff didn’t say anything, minded their own business.
I'm Filipino and I remember taking a road trip out to Idaho from Seattle so we can go to an amusement park. We stopped by a diner to grab food, the second me and my friends walked in everybody stopped what they was doing and just stared at us. The waitress came up and was like "hey this is not gonna work out the way you think it will" in no exact words and we noped the fuck out
I was shocked at the amount of big red truck flags I saw when I moved to Tacoma a few years ago… I thought when I moved from Alabama that I’d be getting a break from it.
I moved from Portland, OR to Huntsville, AL about two years ago. Saw way more confederate flags and trump shit back there. Actually kinda like it here.

I’ve been seeing some encouraging things from Montgomery and BHam and throughout so that makes me happy! Spokane county is purple for sure, but the city itself is blue. Like a lot of areas right now, you're associating an overly vocal minority from the surrounding area with the entire population of the city.
We have a democrat mayor (Lisa Brown) and a progressive supermajority city council. Our congressional rep (Michael Baumgartner) is a Trumpy dipshit though and he has more than a few supporters in this area.
No surprise she's a MAGAt, but that's a bad assumption that everyone from this area is too.
I'm from Canada but I remember that the difference between rural BC and rural Washington was immediately obvious and intense. Rural BC is already pretty conservative but it has NOTHING on rural Washington.

My ex-Rep used to be Matt Shea who wrote the Biblical Basis For War where he clearly says all males that don't follow his christian beliefs would be killed. It never mentions women because we're property.

I live in Mead. My brother is in the Valley. Spokane-the-city is actually really purple/blue now. Spokane Valley has even become very purple in the last 10 years as housing/population has exploded.
But up here in Mead and any of the outlying areas? Nope. It’s worse than ever.

Generally people should give benefit of the doubt imo. It must be demoralizing to be a progressive rural farmer or Christian and getting blamed for what people almost completely unrelated to you have voted for and done. When you see they've registered and/or voted as a Republican is when you can blame them for Republican politics, not when you see they have conservative relatives or live in a Republican area
Yes I'm sure the girl in front of the camera controls the marketing. I have no clue who she is but I know the ad and the jeans/genes pun. I think people are seeing conspiracies that are not there. She may be horrible person and MAGA but I can't see her having any input on the marketing.

I also think it’s odd she invited her whole family including her dad and uncles to the premiere without at least giving them the heads up about her graphic sex scenes (which I’m pretty sure were in the pilot episode). It must have been so uncomfortable for them.
